Limited Run Games - Putting digital games into your hands

Do you have an ideal release schedule in mind for future releases?

Do mean in relation to the Vita/PS4 thing, or just in general? In general we'd ideally like to do one release per month, with sales always opening on the last Thursday. It'll take some time to build to that so don't expect that for the first year or two (we might end up with some months having multiple releases). We don't really ever want to have more than 12 releases a year, though, unless so many opportunities fall in our lap that we have to. We're worried about wearing people out - we don't want anyone thinking we're out to bleed them dry.

With the PS4/Vita thing, they'll likely be one month apart. In the future, we'll want to push out the PS4 and Vita releases at the same time. That's cost-prohibitive at the moment, though.

In other news, I sent the developers of the third game their case mockup. Once they reveal it, I'll post it in here (unless they - or one of you - post it in here before I get a chance)! We're really excited about this one as we're huge fans of the developer.

Do you think you might sell collections in order to save money, given the small file sizes if indie games? You could sell games by the same dev together on one disc/Vita card, so you could save on production costs and people buying could save on shipping, space, etc., as well as not having to swap discs and cards so often.

We're not opposed to it, but ultimately it will come down to how much time and resources the developer can devote to putting a collection together. Collections will require the developers to bundle multiple games under one executable as well as create a launcher. I can imagine this being a pretty big headache if the games were created using different engines, After that it would have to go through quality assurance with Sony. If we do single releases, very little to no work is required from the developer.

For some developers, having to do any additional work is enough to give them a reason to not bother with a physical release. They're focused on their new project and just want to move on.

So the short answer is yes, we'll do collections if developers want to put in the extra work.

a monthly release schedule seems like a great goal. I'd even sign up for a subscription at that point. :)

So, are the carts already ordered or are you going to wait until the first wave of customer orders come in to help pay for the cart run?

Created my account. This is a great concept and I wish you guys all the best. My Vita has been collecting dust for a while but I might need to change that with some Breach & Clear. I'd love to see The Binding of Isaac Rebirth (perhaps + Afterbirth) get a print run.

The games are already boxed and ready to ship.

All signed up! Will try to order tomorrow during work but may have to wait until I get home, hoping they're not all gone by then.

As a side note, no idea if you can talk about this yet, but any plans for Breach & Clear: Deadline on Vita in future?

Apologize if this has been answered, but I noticed the games are marked as "Limited Run #1" "#2" and you mentioned there would be a Vita version of Saturday Morning RPG, so it will also be marked as "Limited Run #2", right?

I would love to get all releases for Vita, but it wouldn´t look right if the number is following a set order and considering different platforms (as in PS4 version #2 and PSV version #3).

Anyway, just wanted confirmation as I just created my account and plan on getting all Vita releases.

Rather than sell limited runs of a set amount of copies, why not just open orders for a period of time and then make as many as were ordered?

We've kicked around the idea of creating a truly turn-based version of B&C: Deadline and if we get a chance to approach that, we're definitely bringing that version to Vita. The current game is too much of a resource hog to consider (given how bad Unity's Vita version already is with resources).

Bummer. Thanks for the response though, really appreciate it.

Shame the Vita version of Unity is such a pain!

I am so much in for that physical Vita copy of Cosmic Star Heroine. Great news. Still just hype for the game in general, even better.

So excited to be helping bring this into the physical realm!

We pointed this out on Twitter, but for those that may have missed it: Cosmic Star Heroine's cover art reflects the changes you all requested. The spine (directly below the PS4 logo at the top) now contains a platform specific catalog number. Cosmic Star Heroine is LR-P02. This spine numbering will be consistently placed on all of our releases (Saturday Morning RPG is LR-P02). Breach & Clear is technically LR-V01 but since the games are already manufactured we can't retroactively add it. Maybe in the future we'll reprint art with Sony so everyone can update their collection.

What this means is that you'll be able to collect games for one specific platform without worrying about catalog numbers too much. Each game will still have an overall position in the Limited Run Collection (numbered on the back) - but the spine numbers will be platform specific.

We're about as low as we can pull off with the US Postal Service's somewhat insane international rates - $9 for Canada/Mexico and $12 - $15 everywhere else in the world. I think I saw it mentioned that Fangamer charged over $30 to ship internationally. They're probably shipping via USPS Priority Mail, which is absurdly expensive but fast. We'll be shipping USPS First Class which is slower but significantly cheaper.

Yep that was me, and lol, it took 1 extra month for my copy of RCR to get here to Mexico, it was definitely not fast which is why I was super mad it cost $30. $9 is fair I believe, I just hope it gets here in a reasonable time because if the "fast" option took 1 month, would the normal option take 1 year? Hope not hahaha. Anyways my body (and wallet) is ready :)

Check out the post above. :)

Per platform numbering on the spine, overall collection numbering on the back. The best of both worlds - collect a single platform, or collect them all!

Wow! They must have charged you $30 and sent it via First Class mail. I wonder if they charged extra to insure the package or something?

First class shipping takes 3 - 5 weeks to arrive pretty much anywhere in the world. Sometimes it will be much faster - it's kind of a roll of the dice. I've probably shipped 500 things internationally over the past two years and have only had 1 or 2 take longer than 5 weeks and that was caused by holiday backup (which won't really be in effect until late November).

I'm not interested in either of these games but I'll buy to support the cause. My wishlist is Hotline Miami and Out Last.

Thanks for replying! Sounds good, solid way to handle it. Will definitely do my best to get all Vita releases!

I believe we've fixed the bomb defusal trophy but I'm not entirely certain about the 'Reaper' trophy. I looked into it and most of the bug reports regarding it were reported via the Breach & Clear Forums, Facebook, and support e-mail. Breach & Clear was built by us as a work for hire project for another group and they actually control all of those channels (and they make 99.9% of the revenue from the game). A big part of their job is forwarding bugs to us so we can fix them. That hasn't happened at all regarding the Vita version (oddly, they've continued to forward PC bugs). Everything we've fixed have been bugs we discovered through our own testing. I'm not very happy about the situation, honestly. We kind of count on them for bug reports unless we're contacted directly by a player.

For reference, we did fix several crashes (one involving the medkit, one involving trying to use the controller and touch screen simultaneously, and a few others), we increased text size across the board, fixed around 30 or so bugs, and made a ton of usability tweaks. I personally feel like it is much improved from the current digital version (which should be getting a patch next month). If we had launched this version originally, I think it would have reviewed much more favorably.

For what it's worth, I'm now scouring through the B&C forums and Facebook for any Vita bugs I can dig up. If we haven't fixed them yet, we will be fixing them in time for the patch. This includes any trophy glitches (we'll make them retroactively unlock for anyone that should have gotten them).

I actually really enjoy the game, even in it's current slightly buggy state -- but it's great to see fixes!

PMing you with more details on how to reproduce the hard crash I know about.

If there is one game I'd love to publish, it'd be Yakuza, any of them!

Ahhhhhh! *insert high pitched girly screams*
I know that's a pipe dream, but that's awesome to hear. Nagoshi is an intimidating-looking guy, though. Good luck. I always imagined to get Yakuza 5 state-side, Adam Boyes and Shuhei Yoshida had to make a pact with him over sake.

The new game looks cool. I have no idea what to expect from any of the three really, but just the cover arts are exciting. I think I'll go into them blind, and just be surprised.

Can't believe you guys actually listened to us regarding numbering and applied it right away, across the board.

Amazing work, seriously.

I just add my adress i'm really looking for the 2 PS4 release that you've announced ! Are you going to send a email some days before the release ? because 2000 is a little limited for a release... i don't want to be there at the first minute to be able to have a copy. I don't want fight whit reseller. Are you going to limit 1 copies for each buyer ?

Check the previous page for my post about limits, we'll have them but they'll be on the back end. It'll be a sliding limit based on demand.

There's not many people in the game industry I would be absolutely terrified to meet. Nagoshi, though, yeah - terrified. Then again, maybe my love for Daytona USA and F-Zero GX - combined with my love for Yakuza - would be enough to form some kind of bond. Either that or I'd wind up dead. I don't know, it'd be worth it for a shot at Yakuza 5 getting a disc release.

More likely, I'd probably just have to get in touch with the right guy at Sega of America. That guy would end up being the unfortunate soul who would have to deal with Sega of Japan. I don't see this whole thing as entirely likely, but as someone who has bought every US Yakuza release at launch (including the original - picked it up the same day as Phantasy Star Universe), I really do feel compelled to at least try.

When does this one go up for sale?

It's already getting a physical release in Europe though (Asian version will also have English), and the PS4 is region free.

I'd prefer not importing personally. Plus, maybe any nudging to Sony would make them reconsider putting out a physical version in NA. It'd be great if they only did an Amazon exclusive, anything to get it over here.

In for this :D

I'm assuming there's no way to make the physical version Cross-Buy? No Vita/PS4 voucher inside?

Pretty sure bundling a physical copy & a digital copy together isn't an option. Sony made an exception for Gaijinworks since they're doing PSP releases and a digital copy is the only way you could play a PSP game on the Vita, but that reasoning isn't going to fly with a Vita or PS4 game.

My recommendation would be salt and sanctuary but i know those guys are hard on work on it still

We're friends with Ska Studios so if this goes well, we'll be sure to try to talk them into it. Oh and it's a great game (beta access, mwahahahaha!) :)

It's flying with the Muv-Luv Kickstarter.

It's flying with the Muv-Luv Kickstarter.

Looking at their Kickstarter, it's $80 for the cheapest tier with a physical copy + digital copy. Also, chances are the digital copy won't be bundled in the physical copy itself, but a separate email.

At $25 for the physical copy & less for the digital copy, you could make your own double bundle of Cosmic Star Heroine for cheaper. :)

Since it's two separate titles (that together, comprise the trilogy), it's the standard $40 price for a Vita title. I know they're sending the digital codes through email, instead of shipping it with the physical copy.

I'm not complaining, I'm in for both, but Vic mentioned he only pulled it off for PSP because of reasons, while other developers and publishers are also managing to offer it as well.
