Buy games to earn points, and use them to get digital content, original goods and discount coupons.

isn't that what Club Nintendo was?

God damn it Nintendo I will love you if you bring back cool physical rewards to America for your new program.

You probably won't do it, but I will love you if you do.

Yeah. They always planned to relaunch a new program. They essentially just wanted to overhaul it.

Interesting.

This would appear to imply eShop and possibly in game purchases in mobile games feeding a virtual currency / economy that can be saved for toys / ephemera or spent on in game items. For those asking how the mobile games would motivate or reward purchases, clearly this is one way.

It sounds like you get points for playing console games or their smartphone games as well from the Google translate of the slide, so it's not only just buying stuff.

people were expecting an actual game. A spinoff, or maybe something like hearthstone would've been interesting. I just don't see this succeeding tbh

In that case people were severely overestimating the reason they got into this foray in the first place. Chances are we'll get a decent spin off game later in the future but the mobile gaming marketplace is very different from the actual dedicated gaming space. Nintendo clearly entered this foray for the sake of money, and this is ideally the better concept to start off on considering it's also heavily aimed at the Japanese market.

We'll see, apparently Tomodachi Life had some success, and Nintendo said they weren't going to be fully fledged games, even a spin-off was a little far fetched as expectations.

Yes, even when Nintendo said they won't do that...
I just don't see a social networking app doing well for them, given how many already exist and it's not what Nintendo is known for. I can't see many people who don't own consoles or such being attracted to such an app, tbh. I don't feel it takes advantage of Nintendo's strengths, or what would draw people to a Nintendo app

If the idea is to use the mobile games to draw people into their console ecosystem and encourage them to buy-in, how does a Mii game accomplish that? Who's buying a $200-$300 console to use a Mii?

Hopefully this is just a start. Maybe this game is just some sort of base, social networky thing to play into the whole account system

tone, that's all

Tone? On the internet? Then you misread, I took no offense. I was simply stating that Wii =/= Mii and that one could reach this conclusion by simply stopping to think on it.

Miis are simply "me" they are a pun that does not really need to be tied to Wii. They're also identifiable and well known, and retiring them would be incredibly awkward.

I wouldn't say the idea of using smart devices, movies, and theme parks to increase the popularity of their ips is delusional, though it makes sense to question how many people would actually be converted.

Leveraging their IP in more areas beyond their own hardware is anything but delusional.

The notion that the increased popularity of those IP will translate into dedicated hardware/software sales, however, is.

From my interpretation of the Miitomo game is that it's a combination of Tomodachi Life, Street Plaza and a messaging/social app. Sounds pretty good to me.

No one said they are relying on one Mii mobile game.

No, but if you are only making five or so games in the first year, you would think you would want to maximize your potential gains for each and every one of them. And if conversion is your goal, I don't know that a Mii game is the right one to use to aid in accomplishing that particular goal.

I think Miitomo is to get people on the new account system primarily. I would assume it's a multi-step process.

Could be that. Guess we'll see how it turns out.

As far as I'm aware there is not app similar to Miitomo right now isn'it? So yeah, Miitomo has possibilitie to be a huge hit depending on the features and customization it can offer

It's almost like people don't understand why Nintendo decided to go mobile. Fascinating.

I do get why. But I can't see this drawing anyone in. I don't see that many people being interested in a Nintendo social networking app, and so I don't see it attracting people to their devices

Isnt it a 2nd press event, which may talk about NX

They will likely talk about NX in the January 2016 investors meeting, as they said numerous times before. Questions about it will just get "wait until next time" replies.
Will certainly be interesting.

Another Super Mario figurine, eh? NOA, please don't hold out on us. And if you do let us have, don't rid of the protective dome (like you did with Ganondorf figurine for WW HD).

Cool to see physical goods staying, tho.

On second thought, not clear whether Miitomo should be called a game. It looks more like a communications app with Mii avatars that can be ported to games on Nintendo hardware.

Nothing to see here, just flexing my prediction skills.

Stay losing brehs.

People saying weird/bad choice with Miitomo are like the one saying similar things after the Tomodachi unveiling for the West last year. The game sold (and is still selling) well despite most of its core target being sucked by mobiles.

It's a good choice.

On the reason for the delay of the smartphone app, Mr. Kimishima says, is the need for more lead time to fully promote and explain Miitomo. The company is busy promoting other titles in the pipeline right now, he says. It will start promoting Miitomo after the year-end holiday season. Says this will have little impact on earnings.

Many mobile games just suddenly appear on app stores. Some get featured but majority don't. This sounds like Nintendo is going to be treating the mobile games the same way they treat console and handheld games. Previewing them and pushing them up to their launch. Not simply having them appear one day and allowing fate to take over. They want you to anticipate its release and then go searching for it. They likely do not want to leave it's fate to the randomness that is the app stores.
