Street Fighter V ESRB: Female characters' breasts jiggle during character selection

Boobs should jiggle a little, but obviously the 2P side physics thing is way overboard and distracting. The bigger crime here is the boob clipping through the arm. It'd be ok during combat, but the char select screen shouldn't have such obvious graphical bugs.

I'm sure they'll fix both things though. Maybe ESRB rated a fixed version, where the jiggle is toned down to the right levels but still present.

One of the reasons I like MKX versus previous MKs is Netherrealm finally got their heads out of their asses about women character designs, actually.

No?... Even if it's not realistic the way it's made, it's still more realistic than static. I'm saying the same thing from the start.

No one really has a problem with boobs or jiggle. The only real issue I find with the jiggle is that it's way too much. Jiggle is fine when it's done right or if the purpose of it is comedy like that Highschool DxD gif getting posted in this thread.

EDIT: And I don't think SF is attempting for comedy with the crazy breast bouncing. Someone already mentioned that the P1 side, the physics are more normal.

The sexuality in Street Fighter is almost entirely geared towards male players. While there are instances of very handsome characters, such as bearded Ryu, Fei-Long, and Rufus, we do not see quite the degree of sexuality among the men as we do the women. In Mortal Kombat, every character can be gored in every way. It's very equal opportunity.

You two are arguing completely different points.

You're arguing the issue of gore in the context of sexism. But, the topic of gore wasn't raised in the context of sexism, it was raised with the intent of saying that gore ITSELF could be considered offensive.

Gore being "equal opportunity" doesn't change the fact that it's gore and that some people (reasonably) find it more problematic than breasts. Yet, breasts are what start massive arguments like this one, while gore is more readily accepted.

I believe THAT is the point he was trying to be make by raising MKX and its gore.

Agreed on all points. The clipping just makes it look shitty when it is right there in full display on the select screen. It'll likely be fine on release.

It would be great if more appropriate physics led to accusations of censorship though.

Ah. In that case, the argument misses the point because it's not complaining that breasts exist in a game, it's complaining that this industry has a habit of all too often making them a focal point of characters, especially in fighting games.

Oh....chun li actually looks like she is from China now, that only took the better half of my adult life to accomplish

That's just heavy makeup. She has costumes where its off.

If she actually looked like she was from China, the game would be a lot more realistic looking than its supposed to be

I'm of the opinion of "tone it down for those who dislike it, yet keep it as an option for those that do like it" Make the enhanced bounce an option and the toned down the default and this way, everyone is happy.

Looks like the community is evolving. Noone blamed it on "Japan being Japan" yet.

If they wanted realism why not first focus on how R.Mika's breasts are clipping through her arm? If it's an engine thing then just bake the animation? It shouldn't be a problem. It's probably the easiest fix to deliver.

Even compared with the toned down MKX designs, SF5's are hardly egregious. I mean Karin and Chun are covered up completely and the proportions aren't much different at all.

Pretty sure they already touched that up if I'm remembering correctly.
Gif of R.Mika is from a super old build.

That Mika gif in the opening looks fairly normal jiggle. Though that Chun-Li one that was posted is that bug which is obviously over the top jiggle.

The animations in this game are beautiful.

While I generally agree, Mortal Kombat was one of the few mainstream series where I thought the over sexualised designs played to the games strengths given how MK had always thrived on juvenile over the top gore.

For instance, Ryu:

Cammy:

Based on these images, can it be understood why people may become a bit annoyed by stuff like this?

Cammy cosplayers don't seem to mind :p

uh, you realize that it doesn't matter which game it comes from, right? The point is that Ryu's pose is "cool" and Cammy's pose is "sexy."

Nothing wrong with sexy. SF has plenty of "cool" females and different types

Going by sf5's roster.

Chun-li = cool/beautiful
R.Mika = Dorky/Over the top
Cammy = Cool/Sexy
Karin = Elegant / Snarky / Disciplined
Laura = Sexy / Cool

"Sexyness" this is not. It is caricature that treads too close to sexism for some people to stomach.

For others, it is so preposterous to behold that it divorces them from their gameplay experience and prevents immersion.

Why do so many fighting females have to be "oozing" sex appeal like this?
So far I think every female has been just close to bursting from the shirts and the depiction of the guys is no where NEAR the way the girls have been depicted.

There's something wrong with sexy when in SF, the characters you would most likely call sexy are all going to be women.

Again, this isn't an attack on "sexy" or "sexual." It's an "attack" on sexualization. Where is my Ryu ass shot, for instance? Why can't I have sexy Ken poses? Why aren't Zangief's nipples rock hard?

What's wrong with sexy? To begin with, there's a distinction between sexy and sexism. We should not shame sex appeal, and the kind of sex appeal that works depends on the person i'd say and their tolerance.

They have shirtless bearded sexy Ryu too. There was like a 100 page thread about it on gaf last month.

I can see why people get offended though. Like I for one don't mind either way. But I can understand why others would be upset by it.

I feel like we don't have the ass physics yet. I don't want Ryu ass shots until we get some good ass jiggle.

What about the ones that do, and add pants?

http://kotaku.com/5981959/proof-tha...ZSnKcw.1&utm_referrer=https://www.google.com/

I know that this is an invisible line that not everyone crosses at the same time. One person's sexy can be another person's exploitative. The conversation that people are having every day, in this industry and in society in general, is where that line should be realistically drawn.

Cammy is sexy and powerful. Would she be less sexy and powerful in pants? As seen above, the answer is no. So why doesn't Cammy get to wear pants?

That's the semantics of all of this. How much is too much, and why is it when it is.

Dang I didn't see this, amen brother

How is that an argument? The popularity of certain outfits that female cosplayers use are almost completely based on how sexy they are/how little clothes they have.

And nah man women in fighting games always seem to default to sexy while the "cool" ones are the exception. Its not equal at all.

And that immediately becomes the problem. Like, do you legitimately think that Cammy and Abel had even the most remote development history? "We need to make Abel into a super sexy stud for all of the ladies." A man showing off his muscles and a woman showing off her ass are two separate things entirely. Urien treads the line, but again, even if it could be viewed as sexual (and let's say it can), dressing down like that is also a power play. Cammy showing off her ass is just sexy.

How many pages was that "hot ryu" thread? I don't know if the devs intended for it, but that's an example of a slight change that can have a positive impact i'd say for diversity.

As for female characters, Karin is far more modest than she was before, where she originally had ass shots every time she did her forward thrusts. Yet i don't see any acknowledgement of that, only when Cammy and Mika for example continue to be the characters that were created do i see things like this.

Who actually wants to see Ryu do some sexy coquettish pose in tighty whities? All the women I talk to think men look sexiest in a good suit or leather jacket. For many, "cool" is synonymous with "sexy".

1. Allow me to repeat myself:

you can't compare "Ryu not wearing a shirt" to "Cammy consistently posing in such a way to give the butt/breast shot". Besides being sexy, can you tell me the value of Cammy's pose? Because I can explain shirtless Ryu's value for a good while without having to once mention physical appeal.

2. Well, if all the women you talk to say that, it must be true. :V No, I'm gonna imagine that there are plenty of women (and men) who want to see Ryu in an explicitly sexual outfit.

3. Karin being downgraded doesn't get rid of the problem, it just reduces it. The actual reduction should be accomplished by creating a proper balance between character sexuality.
