Nexus 6P | OT | Its also the best Android Phone

I bought a Spigen clear case, but it isn't here yet. I also got a screen protector that blocks the proximity sensor, so I have to get that replaced, as well.

I do get nervous about cracking the glass on the back, though.

Bought this yesterday, can't wait!

Went from the Nexus 5 to Note 4. Although the Note 4 was blazing fast on Kit Kit, I feel the upgrade to Lollipop really slowed it down (and I'm still stuck on 5.02, not even freakin' 5.1), and I'm thinking Sammy probably won't be supporting this phone much further. I recently took out my Nexus 5 and updated it to Marshmellow to play round, and just realized how much faster it is than my Note 4 (though I didn't have much apps on the 5). Once I started playing around with the new features of 6.0, I just knew that I need to get the 6P...

Half way through day 2 with 40% battery left and 1:55 screen on time. I'm happy!

I usually charge every night but I just wanted to see if this could go two days.

My dog was murdered by a 3.5mm audio port and I will not rest until the standard is dead
I am screwed with my battery. It is worse than my Nexus 6 and I have no idea why. Play Services is eating like 10%. I might need to reset the phone ugh.

I got my half off Adopted case today. It's super grippy, if not exactly pretty. Im glad it got here too because my aluminum 6P was already getting scratched up in only a couple days.

I would love a 6P but the reports of the aluminium being bad quality worries me.
If nexus protect was available in the UK I would be all over it but I don't trust google to help me if the phone warped.

My Nexus 6p has shipped! Yay

Legit happy for you. Glad to hear it!

I'm starting to think that I should Nexus protect from my phone as well. Am I able to buy it even after I've already purchased and used the phone?

My only complaint so far is that the Google bumper case makes taking screenshots hit or miss.

Hope that someone comes out with a nice leather folio case.

Ordered mine yesterday...said it would be here in 6-10 days. Got tracking number yesterday as well...they are overnighting it (I chose regular shipping)....gonna be here Monday :) :) :)

Loving the camera on this thing.

Imgur compression, tho.

I don't know if this could be a widespread issue, but I realized the top speaker on mine sounded distorted with crackling on some music.

I reached out to Project Fi support and they sent me a replacement right away, which sounds much better.

I compared both phones playing the first 15 seconds of Hoppípolla from Sigur Rós, and listening to the background music in Tiny Tower Vegas. The first phone sounded like an old record player, or a bad MP3 rip. Note that the Tiny Tower music is intentionally lo-fi, but it doesn't crackle.

Nobody ruins my family vacation but me...and maybe the boy!
Are there any 6P owners here that previously used an HTC One M9? How do the speakers compare between the two?

I'm going to try to get a replacement because of bad static sounds over multiple headphones. I have to go return it to a store of the phone company I got it through, they told me they would send it to the manufacturer to check if there's a defect and if it's approved they'll get me a new one. I don't know what the turnaround time would be. And I hope they find the defect since it isn't fully bad 100% of the time.

If only I didn't cut my micro sim since I won't be able to use my old phone. Unless there's a good adapter that is cheap or some other solution.

EDIT: Since I didn't have the original packaging, they would not replace it but they would send it off for repair. I called them before going and they didn't tell me to bring other things. So I'll be getting it repaired. Hopefully opening it up doesn't lead to more issues. I'll be without it for 7-14 working days. They did give me a free micro sim with my number though.

Also they weren't able to find the issue because it was too loud to hear it there (kiosk in the middle of a busy shopping centre) and they were saying it was just bad quality earphones (including the ones they provided with the phone) even though they are fine with other devices and other people have the same issue. They didn't believe me that there was actually a problem.

I wish Verizon had this phone. I don't want to switch to project Fi since I get a discount with Verizon and my wife just financed her iPhone 6s through them. I have a $100 off code for upgrading and the finance monthly would be so easy to swallow. Paying $550 up front not so much.

My droid MAXX is starting to show its age.

Some further thoughts after a few days of use.

* Battery life - I may have been a little bit hasty calling it 'not great'. Yeah, I am still only getting 4 hours or so of screen on time, but the stand by time is brilliant.
* Fingerprint - I've been using Android Pay a lot more. One handed use is very convenient.
* Screen - I think I'll stick with the phone. It is smaller than my N6 yes, but the screen looks much nicer (and sharper).
* Load times - A lot lot lower than my N6.

Question from a curious iPhone 6s+ owner.... I typically get about 13-15hrs of "usage" time and about 30hrs standby from one charge. Is the difference mainly because of the qHD screen and OS?

How does the 6p compare to the note 5 in terms of battery life?

It's incredibly hard to compare since the iPhone timer measures usage and Android just tells you screen on time.

6P can easily go 30 hours with moderate usage though. I went 40 hours and had just under 40% battery left, but that was with relatively low usage.

Nice! That's pretty damn good. My wife prefers android. I've bought her the S3 and S5 over the years, but both were a nightmare(Samsung problems) so we are looking at mainly at the 6P and V10. Seems like 6P is the best bet.

Chipped some paint off on a door the other day :( I wish I could get the case I wanted before the end of month
It's very easy to scratch. I literally scratched off some paint by taking off my case hahaha

The photos from this phone are very similar to the original N6. They seem to be noisier even in non-dark areas though.

I'm stuck between my 6P and iPhone 6S, I'm loving using ad blockers on my 6S but I need to root my 6P for the same.
Is there any other way around this for the 6P?

Just got ours the other day. A big upgrade from the iphone 3GS's we were rocking hah.

Is that serial-number barcode sticker thing on the back of the 6P supposed to come off?

It's pretty ugly but I don't want to pick it off if it's going to leave sticky residue back there.

It comes off super easy with no residue.

Depends on what kind of adblocking you want to do. If you're solely talking about adblocking when browsing the web, then, yeah, you just need an alternate browser. If you want to block ads throughout the phone, including in all apps/games (not just web browsing), then yes, you need to root. But honestly, its sooo worth it! It's the main reason why I root.

Like what?

No reboot on the power menu and no option to clear/close all recent apps. Minor things, but they bugged me. Only remaining complaints right now arr the vibration notifications being too weak and the battery life being good but not great for my needs.

How's the ROM? Any rebooting or other issues?

No residue, just use a pin to pull up one side.

Just spoke with a Google rep and was told there might be potential hardware failure with the constant reboots I have been getting. Ordered a replacement. Pretty easy actually. Should be here next week at the latest.

Curious about your average SOT?

Getting one next month. Looking forward to finally replace my Nexus 4 which has been acting like crap last couple of months. Random reboots, slow etc etc.

I normally hate cases but this phone is rather slipery lol. It has slid out of my pocket a couple times already from sitting down. What's the best case out there ATM?

I got the Spigen Rugged Armor, it feels very nice and keeps the "slim/thin" factor that those bulky cases lose. It feels really nice with a little bit of grip on the back. It looks REALLY GOOD as well.
This case is NOT an otterbox and I'm not sure how well it would fair with a corner drop. If you drop your phone a lot I'd suggest a suit of field plate for your phone.

PSA - Check your bank to see if they offer a Cell Phone protections plan. WF (if you pay your monthly phone bill with their WF credit card) will cover up to $600 on a damaged/stolen phone with only a $25 deductible).
