I'm also in Mtn View. What time were you deciding to head up on Saturday morning? I'll most likely be going with my brother-in-law since I don't want to be tied down to the Caltrain schedule.

I'm good for any time, whatever time is best to get in line. But yah, was thinking not being tied to CalTrain would be good, since it has a terrible weekend schedule and takes 2 hours to get back to MTV from SoMa.

Finally got my flights settled, and I'll be there!! I'm excited to meet and chat with fellow Gafers.

Edit: Just looked at the sign up list, and I forgot to add my real name to it. Can somebody add it...it's David. Thanks!
Fixed it for ya, though not too hard to guess :p

Who is organizing the orgy afterwards?
Well, meetup is Saturday night, and we'll all be really tired, but Sunday PSX is over a little earlier so I'll leave you to figure out the orgy details!

....

ANYWAYS, getting closer! A good chunk of the badges were made last night and I'm doing the rest today between work, the Uncharted 4 mp beta stream, and some Doctor Who (and possibly a bit of a game or two). Also considering a pre-meetup while we wait for the keynote; bringing lawn chairs and such so we can all group up and chat.

Is it too late to get on the list? Just bought my tickets and would love a badge/to participate in GAF shenanigans if it's not too late. I used the sign-up form just now :)

Thanks for doing all this!

Anyone wanna carpool from the South Bay? Live in Mountain View and I can drive. Or we can just take CalTrain together.

Deciding between just Saturday or Sat+Sun. Thoughts, GAF?
I'm coming up from Santa Clara driving partly on 101 (unless traffic sucks then switching to 280) if someone needs a ride to/from the event. Going to try to get up early (even though probably be up late on Friday night for someone's birthday) on Saturday to make the keynote.

Sunday will play it by ear... probably sleep in... might just head up to Sweet Maple first then hit the show floor afterward.

People from out of town:

My recommendations for places to eat -

Sweet Maple/Kitchen Story for Breakfast (get there early as there is always huge lines) - You NEED Millionaire's Bacon in your life, as well as either the Frisco Scramble, Bulgogi Scramble or Big Hip French Toast.

Grubstake - Open until 4am every day, learned about this place from Richard Cheese. Great late night diner with a whole side Portuguese menu with great dishes. It might end up being torn down for condos which is a giant load of crap, so with that in mind, try it while you still can.

http://www.barneyshamburgers.com/ we've been going to since the 90's, good place. (look at the pictures on how much bacon they put on the burgers, for example.)

http://rokusf.com/ - my friend Jay's (who also runs the Japanese Curry truck JapaCurry) Izakaya. He lives near San Mateo and said to me "You know, it would have been much cheaper to open this place close to where I live but I thought there's no place in the city serving the food I want to eat with my friends." That's why he opened this Izakaya on Market St. Using all his mom's recipes growning up, their specialty is the Chicken Nanban served just like you would get it in Miyazaki Prefecture in JP.

Are we allowed to bring bags? If I'm gonna wait in line for the conference I'll want to bring a breakfast, and also put the swag I get during the day in it.
I didn't see anyone answer you. Last year I brought in a backpack that had all of my electronics in it. They allowed bags, but they did thoroughly check them for security.

Yeah... BART's gonna BART, unfortunately. At least it's only delays (and not closure) due to a single track being used, and only for that particular segment between Fremont and Union City. People using BART on the peninsula's side, or coming though Dublin/Pleasanton or Oakland ought to be fine.

This should be stickied or re-iterated on the first post of this thread, in all honesty. I think a lot of people here, particularly the residents of the South Bay will be using BART. It'd be helpful for them to know this.

I'll update when I get home from work.

So anyone else going to this thing alone? I was wondering if any groups would be forming to walk around together.

What time is this event even starting? I feel like going an hour or even two hours before to get good seats for the keynote would be a good idea.

Conference is at 10. I've heard that getting there around 7-8 would get you good seats.

So, silly questions I know but first real big event of this sort!
I get the idea of lining up early, but where do I want to be looking for this line? Is there an obvious main entrance to this place? Is it simply known as Mascone West? I'm completely unversed with the SF area.
Also, where is the keynote versus the actual show floor? Is it a decent walk, or different parts of the same convention center?
Is it totally normal as I'd assume that everyone is on their phone/tablet trying to write about one thing while in line for another?
Last, I'm the only representative attending on behalf of a couple outlets, so I'm trying to get as much fit in as I can. How many game demos in a day is a realistic goal (assuming I am seeking out both indie and AAA titles)
Thanks a ton in advance! Can't wait to see you all there!!!

Well, I Def like skylines so I was thinking Coit tower. I appreciate nature/landmarks so golden gate Bridge and golden gate park...

I like bars... I guess the earlier things I listed are touristy. How do I get a good feel of where the locals would go or take people?

GG Bridge and Park, California Academy of Sciences is also a must. Walt Disney Family Museum in the Presidio is a must. Sweet Maple is in a hole-in-the-wall area but the Millionaire Bacon is to die for (I'm about to go to the store to get stuff to try to make my own). On the Wharf, you have the Exploratorium, Ripley's Believe It or Not, and the fucking amazing Museum Mechanique, which is an arcade museum. Lots of really amazing ancient games that you wouldn't even think exist.

The sea lions at Pier 39.

Touristy in SF is still good, but if you're looking for bars or lounges not so known, "The View" atop the Marriot is a must-see. The different attractions of Golden Gate park are touristy, yeah, but they're also must sees: The Japanese Tea Garden, Conservatory of flowers, botanical gardens, and academy of Science. If you're in town on thurs, the Academy is hosting it's weekly nightlife event, this weeks themed around Star Wars.

I'm guessing you pick up your badge first and then wait in line outside of the doors to the auditorium where the conference will take place, somewhere inside the convention center.

OK, maybe this page will help - http://portal.sanfrancisco.travel/moscone-virtual-tour/

So there was the Moscone which has been there for many many years... and Macworld and such was held there in the 90's... and so on...

What the original Moscone looks like from the street:

Just over 10 years ago, they built Moscone West where WonderCon & GDC were held right after it opened:
Moscone-West_0232.jpg

Second floor is the big event room where Microsoft and other keynotes were held at GDC as well as the SF equivalent of "Hall H" at SDCC (at that WonderCon held there). It's on the second floor of Moscone West. Right inside main entrance is usually badge pickup and then just head to the second floor to get in line for the keynote.

Smaller conference rooms on the side and on the 3rd floor... main exhibit hall on the 1st floor.

I hope that helps!

This is definitely one I think I'll be making time for... thought I'll have to see how bad the lines are for hands-on time with PSVR games; would be sadly ironic to miss out on some real time with the kit because I waited in line and spent time in a panel... talking about the kit.

I was just going to look that up. I'm 99% certain that's where I will be Thursday night.

Edit - Bought and sold.

CAS is dope and Nightlife is excellent. You're in for a treat.

I'm really glad I saw the credit card only for purchasing stuff. I wonder if it'll be like that for all of the vendors or just for the official PSX merch. My friend and I are going to line up somewhere between 5am to 6am because we want good seats for the key notes. Pretty excited for this, I've been to a few conventions like G.A.M.E. and SDCC but I wasn't nearly as excited for those as I am for this. Looking forward to meeting some people on Saturday night.

Hmmm.. Hey we could actually help each other out! If people coming out to PSX are going to be new to Uber or Lyft, you can use the below referral code so you'll get the credit when signing up, and I'll get some when you use it. We both win :)

Highlight for referral code:
Uber ($15 credit towards first ride): Lyft ($20 Credit towards first ride):
Also, if posting that is no bueno, just let me know and I'll remove it!

Is the keynote something you can attend if you are attending PSx?

Totally. I'm definitely showing up early to get some good seats.

I also wanna line up super early, maybe we can meet up! 5-6am is good with me. Bringing the 3DS for in-line gaming.

I'd be OK with this, probably going to have a 3DS and a Vita for some gaming as well. I'll shoot you a PM with my phone number. My friend and I are getting into SF Friday around noon so we can check into our hotel early and avoid the majority of the Friday bay area traffic.

So just out of curiosity, considering the occasion, why a 3DS and not a Vita?

Note 1: I have both and I like both systems, but just curious.

Note 2: I'm also down for meeting up in line early.
