Lightning Returns: FINAL FANTASY XIII PC |OT| Light Eternal

That's the problem with Square or most Japanese devs. They just release and forget. Got a bad feeling about this one.
Can't be weirder than DOA5 on PC. Wired XB1: start/back and L3/R3 are swapped, triggers don't work at all. Wireless XB1: start/back are set up properly, LT works as LT and RT, half of the axis is LT, other half is RT.

Doubt it will be discounted so soon.

If the SQEX's XMAS Surprise contains a LR:FFXIII voucher please send me a PM and I'll give the voucher to you, I won't need it anyway.

I highly doubt it will be in the box, but that's an extremely kind offer. Thanks.

I had to replay the first hour of XIII-2 three or four times because it just would not trigger achievements and remember that I saved the game. I finally fixed it with disabling cloud saves but it drove me mad to see the beach again and again...

That said, I will wait until the Winter Sale and a small discount before buying LR as I am still not nearly halfway done with Trails SC.

Koei Tecmo games maintain their locks (from my perspective, of course someone else could fix them) because I refuse to fix them, not because it would be particularly challenging. They annoy the hell out of me.

If Square Enix seriously went back to a resolution lock after releasing a game with arbitrary resolution support on the same engine then they'll also be on my shitlist. That's inexcusable.

I want to ask: How have you NOT gone criminally insane from Koei and Square's bullshit?

Sega, plz save us with a surprise Valkyria Chronicles 2 port that shows SE and TK how it's done.

So you can't buy or preload this yet ?

Yeah this will likely be a sloppy release lol. There doesn't seem to be much support from SE <_<

jesus...

I will not support Koei again on PC whatsoever after One Piece Mosou 3. Vita graphics in a PC release ffs.

I'll just repost this here: last year the Square Enix Holiday Surprise Box (2015 version: https://store.eu.square-enix.com/emea_europe/games/pc-windows-download/2015-Holiday-Surprise-Box.php) contained a -50% coupon for FFXIII-2, which was released on 11 Dec, 2014, exact same time frame that Lightning is Returning on PC.

So if you like Square Enix games, it could be worth to wait until 24th. Worst case scenario is that you get some other FF game and 4 other games for 5 bucks and you have to buy Lightning Returns separately.

Is there any reason why they would want to apply a resolution lock to a game?

The interesting thing is they did unlock the resolution on Bladestorm. That said, the game was still a mess regardless, I had to turn down certain settings on my beefy PC because it would just crash. Just happy I didn't pay full price.

I think it comes down to that they just don't care to put any effort in, frankly.

Isn't it Yusnaan?

Yo GD, might as well correct that - Shota's gang (he's the producer), where Shota orchestrated, Yohei Sato (VGO's conductor) conducted for the recording, and Falk who's basically a side character did the engineering.

Made the fixes.

Well, when I said Falk's gang, I didn't mean you were the leader or anything. haha
It's fixed regardless.

Beautiful OP.

And that avatar roster is such an amazing addition. I wonder where you got it from. Or is this your work?

Thanks. Someone made a small version of that and I greatly expanded it.

With Paint.

Thanks everyone for the complements.

I'm just a little over-careful about this nowadays since people keep throwing around the "Lightning Returns composer" joke.

No biggie!

I don't think so, they even added some PC exclusive options in the game. Could it be because of some UI/Texture bug?

Somewhere deep inside I hope that the game is just gonna unlock at midnight UK time, which happens for some games since the Steam timer is almost always wrong..

but it'll probably not happen .__.

At least they changed something in those games recently according to steamdb.

Only one boss is hard and that's because he's the only one that doesn't get stronger over the days. Get gud.

lol,I tried to get gud but gave up,brought it down to easy and even then,I had a hard time...but you are right ;)

For those who never got around to playing this on PS3, expect the game to play a lot more like an mmo than the other two. A lot of optional questing, a few really big open areas, a flat story, but all without a levelling system, more so just finding better and stronger weapons.

Great game overall though. Never finished it but I put a good 35 hours in or so.

Well they've always added those options in, so I always figured they were easyish to do for them?

I always assumed that it was tougher for them so they just don't bother. The same goes for FPS. The only reason Dragon Quest Heroes supports 60FPS is because the PS4 version did, I imagine.

Found one of my posts from 2 years ago when I started playing. Man, I really wish this combat system gets used again in a future game.

First playthrough - Day 3

This is my general setup for fighting everything. Cruising with it so far.

Sab - Passion Rouge (Default)
Weapon - Death Herald (+260 Str, +360 Mag, +1000 HP, Revenge Guard)
Shield - Juno Sospita (+900 HP, +0 ATB Spd, 70 Guard Def)
Acc - Magicians Token (+15% Mag), Thunderbird Bracelet (Auto-Enthunder)
Abilities:
- Deprotect Lv 2 (Locked)
- Blizzara Lv 2
- Deshell Lv 2 (Locked)
- Imperil Lv 1 (Optimized)

Sen/Rav - Quiet Guardian
Weapon - Shadow Hunter
Shield - Guardian Corps
Acc - Phy def +20%, Mag def +10%
Abilities:
- Fira Lv 2
- Heavy Guard Lv 2
- Thundara Lv 2
- Beat Down Lv 1 (Optimized - 0.6 multiplier)

Com - Helter Skelter
Weapon - Battleaxe of the Believer
Shield - *One of those XIII/XIII-2 DLC shields with +100 str*
Acc - +15% str, Beggar's Beads
Abilities:
- Aerora Lv 2
- Guard Lv 2
- Attack Lv 4 (2.5x @12ATB !!!)
- Heavy Slash Lv 1

Basically, every battle goes something like:
1. Deprotect - Deshell - Imperil
2. Thundara x3-4 (or Beat Down x2 depending on enemy, say Zaltys)
3. Attack xn (until enemies die)

With Auto-En spell, imperil and the 2.5x (12 ATB) Attack Lv 4, it absolutely destroys everything. I also have all elemental spells in there, so when I fight a new enemy, I cast all of those spells once to determine their weakness. If they are susceptible to Imperil then it doesn't even matter.

so, do i need to play the previous games to understand this one? i started the first on ps3 and even tho i loved the combat the linearity was what killed the game for me

In my mind,I still consider LR to be a super recent,Fresh from the oven kind of release.

But its certainly not the case at all.It was revealed THREE YEARS AGO.

Anyone remember this video by Kitase?

That doesn't sound too bad. Guess there aren't that many cutscenes.

Only the opening and ending are pre-rendered, similar to XIII-2. Which is probably a good thing given the outfit customization options.

XIII-1 had a ton of video cutscenes by comparison, both in-engine and CGI.

Man, I really wish this combat system gets used again in a future game.

SE has commented that they want FF15 and FF7R to have action battle systems that maintain the strategic "heart" of a turn-based game. I feel like LR does exactly that, and does it brilliantly. It's a great combat system.

And great work on the OT Ganon! Those avatars are really tempting...

Only 16 more hours until I can finally finish the Goddess' story and finally live the rest of my days in peace. Wish I didnt spoil the end for myself cause "What are the chances of it coming to PC anyway?" -.-

Also, very good OT!

A big problem is that Koei and Square also release their crappy ports in Japan, which is either as far as I can tell:

A. Giving them confirmation-bias on their end that their PC ports are good since Japanese buyers who probably never experienced much PC gaming before don't know any better and don't complain

Or B. Poisoning the well for Japanese PC gamers (Theeeeey exiiiiist) who do have standards.

And I'm betting they TK is seeing more of A, judging by how many unlocalized games they release on Steam.

Can't wait tbh, I'll pick it up as soon as I'm back near my PC next month if it's a good port!
and probably even if it's a bad port

Tried to finish XIII-2 but I couldn't.. it's so boring. Will just read a summary and watch the ending on YouTube or something.

Aw yeah, a game completely centered around my favorite female videogame character.

Is this game hard? Can you play this at a relaxing pace?

I'm actually going into this game practically blind, but all those little fragments in the OP sound really good. FFXIII is probably gonna be the main single-player series for Christmas break all up till the start of the second semester for me.

It will be interesting to see how this port measures up. Whether Square learned some lessons after the original XIII ports, or if we are in for more garbage.
