fuck me, this thread.

sad state of affairs. don't know about one of the most significant events in world war two, but can list every store that is quick to stock limited edition amiibos within a ten mile radius.

Nolan could direct him fucking my GF and I'd watch it. Teach us, Christ Nolan. We are not worthy:

Just need a confirmation that Zimmer is doing the score and Fassbender is attached as well. Then you have my permission to freeze me in.

Evacuation of Dunkirk is a pretty damn important event in the early years of WWII, a movie is arguably warranted I suppose.

The idea of Nolan directing a WWII film interests me though.

IS NOLAN MAKING A MOVIE ABOUT AMIIBOS???

I guess Nolan wants to break out of what people expect from him, good for him I guess. He's not the first or even 10th person I think of when it comes to recreating historical grand battles and events but no doubt he has the chops.

Not sure if a WW2 movie is something I want to go to theaters and see though, the trailer and buzz will have to be pretty strong.

Can see this bombing. Dunkirk was great And all but can't see it working as a movie.
Expecting exposition of vast technical details of boat mechanics and why they can't transport horses and the dying

Memento
Insomnia
Batman Beings
The Prestige
The Dark Knight
Inception
The Dark Knight Rises
Interstellar

Nolan is good stuff.
Of that list Interstellar is my least fav but still decent and I really enjoyed those movies he made.

Don't know how I feel about this

Not gonna lie first thought I got from this was "White people the movie: War time"

Maybe Nolan can surprise me with a diverse cast somehow even though it is set in 1940s Europe...

Get a grip.

Can't wait too see the movie, Nolan always makes instant hits.

Imagine how exciting it would have been if it was the Crimean War instead of the oversaturated WWII category.

Nolan's "Charge of the Light Brigade".

Can't wait for Nolan Nerds to overhype this movie because they confuse pseudo-intellectual convolutions for story-telling prowess.

Nah, just kidding, I'll probably watch it in theaters if the previews look decent.

I'm American. My knowledge of World War II begins and ends with us puttin' the team on our back and carrying the Allies to victory.

Interestingly the rumour doing the rounds before xmas was that Nolan would be building some 1940/50's era sets at WB Leavesden and everyone assumed this was either A) some kind of classic Nolan misdirection or B) some kind of Presitge esque thriller. I never thought that he would be doing a WW2 set epic.

The evacuation of Dunkirk is ripe for an epic cinematic adaptation. The summer slot seems a little puzzling but Saving Private Ryan was released in the summer so it could work, either way I'm 100% onboard regardless.

Just from the small amount of info here, my first reaction: This will be Nolan's first major flop.

Amazing.

I'm far more hyped for the score if I'm honest.

Dunkirk is a very pivotal moment of the war, but I'm kinda craving a Russian front movie. Stalingrad/Leningrad siege. Maybe?

WW2 in the summer, between PotA and Spiderman, unknown leads. And probably a huge budget. Jup, WB just bending over for him. No other director could get that.

I get you, movies need more diversity. This movie is set in the past though and what you're asking, you already know makes no sense.

America!!! Fuck yeah!!!

Zimmer can at least ape his Thin Red Line score for this.

No faith he'll do something different? His Interstellar score has been something worth noting from him in a long time.

Didn't hurt this film.

Those are some mighty boots to try living up to if they are going this route.

Nolan is not Spielberg, I love the guy, but he's not there yet.

They better have a Tom Hanks calibre lead as well.

On the other hand I just looked up the totals for recent WW2 films:

Fury: 211 million
The Imitation Game: 227 million
Unbroken: 163 million
The Monuments Men: 155 Million

So I guess their is still a maket for these films.

Whats amazing about that gut reaction? It'll be a WW2 film about an event few Americans know a lot about releasing in the summer potentially going up against Star Wars. If ever their was a setup for a flop, thats it.

Sounds epic, but a Summer release for this is ballsy. Nolan's name carries a shitton of weight, but are people really going to flock to a WWII drama in prime superhero season? Everything about this sounds like Nolan's most blatant Oscar grab yet - except for that date.
