UNFUCKINGBELIVABLE.

But seriously, we are at a point that no matter were this person is that wins this, they should maintain anonymity if only for at least a few days after they claim it..

Jesus Christ, if it's true it will be $1.5b by Wednesday…after lump sum and (NY) taxes that's like $500m! o_O

Even with 3 winners you're getting $170m. Insane.

Is the 1mil prize split? Or does everyone get 1m, like everyone who gets the other lower prized get a flat prize?

$1.3 billion to start. And with 4 days of sales....maybe $2 billion?

Lottery confirms: Wednesday's Powerball jackpot will be $1.3 billion, or $806 million cash value http://bit.ly/1kWRFLN

Fffffff

Mother of God.....

They each get the $1 million. Yeah, lower tiered prizes aren't split like the jackpot

Is there seriously no way to avoid it? What would be the best way to gain back ones anonymous status after they win? Changes names and move?

Can't imagine having your name revealed like that out to the world.

Create a trust and have the trustee (lawyer) claim it for you.

Was mentioned elsewhere but there's ways to create a legal entity that takes on the money, keeping your identity obscured or hidden, typically

This is the loophole:

Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and South Carolina still allow winners to remain anonymous.

Other states, however, permit winners to create limited liability companies, so that when their names have to be announced, it's the companies and not individuals that are identified.

So you hire a lawyer and create a limited liability company.

Today people at my grocery store were lined up out of the building to buy Powerball tickets (but, everyone ignored the vending machine...) I can't imagine what it's gonna be like on Wednesday with over $1 billion.

If I win I'm

1. Getting a lawyer and all that legal jazz.
2. If allowed, legally changing my name before claiming.
3. Going to a hollywood makeup artist to completely change my appearance.
4. Go to appearance.
5. Continue working as if nothing happened for at least a month.
6. Peacing the fuck out.

If, I win.

this shit is such a scam. they made the odds of winning much lower than before by increasing the number range. thats why the prize is ballooning.

Yes because the 1 in 175 million chance to win before was perfectly attainable.

Yes, everyone is aware of what they did and why. No one cares about the sub 300 million jackpots. Crazy huge power balls are what players and states want. Mega Millions is still there if you like the old game.

1. Do that.
2. Don't waste you time. They (media) can and will uncover this. It's not a matter of when or if. They will have the paper work to pull records such as these ready right now, just need a name. They will know you won before you do.
3. See #2
4. Do that.
5. Do not do this. You are a target for lawsuits. People in general don't realize that most of the public is not worth going after because we're broke. When you have money, it's a completely different game. You are worth going after and the people know you should be paying for this because you have the money. Lawyers aren't cheap and they won't be, especially for you. You'll be paying money to settlements to lawsuits engineered just to get you to settle. Do not do this. When you cash out and have just about over half a billion in cash, you will not be able to have a normal job again. (Unless you lose it and its out on the tabloids.

Don't waste your time changing you appearance, name, likess for the purposes of hiding who you are at the media event. It will be quite sometime before you can hide. Normally, the advice is to wait a couple of months for the media blitz to die down then claim. However, for this jackpot, might as well hire a TV reality staff. You're going to be a camera, a lot. Might as well make money out of it.

Assuming you do not live in one of the 6 states that allow winners to remain anonymous:
Buying a ticket with cash ensures you are anonymous until you make the claim, which you have a year for to do so, plenty of time to prepare. You can setup a limited liability company via a lawyer to hide your identity behind, LLC claims the win. You do not have to disclose the win to the lawyer at the time. You have plenty of time to create a cover story for why you stopped going to work. If people know you are a gamer, you could tell them you test games from your home for a living now.

If I won I'd pay off mine and my family's debts (including student loans, houses, etc.), set some money aside for my son and my immediate family, and give the rest away. Imagine all the good you could do with that money.

.. I guess there's a resource center and NPO I've always dreamt of opening. I'd help a few friends with some things, set aside some for my sister, some for me in a savings account (after buying a nice house) and go visit Paris.
