Anyone know what's the best way to avoid a crushed box?
I have this preordered at Amazon and Best Buy. What would be my best option? Best Buy in store pick up?

Amazon is pretty good from what I hear. I always prefer to pick mine up in person so I can check the boxes out.

I did hear that a lot of people see this as one of the lesser Zelda games. True?

It's on the worse end in terms of the amount of BS filler the game makes you slog through (ugh @ anything involving Wolf Link), it's a little on the easy side (particularly the standard mobs), and the addition of more and larger open spaces wasn't exactly justified by how they chose to fill it, either gameplay-wise or visually... but it's got a nice story (<3 Midna), offers a nice update to the world and characters of Ocarina of Time (I really liked the new interpretation of the Zoras, for example), and has really polished dungeons that graduated from the early experimental stages of the N64 games (really basic 3D layouts) without feeling cramped like Wind Waker did (really compact 3D layouts).

Just play it. Everyone is opinionated.

I think Twilight Princess is the 4th best. It's behind Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and the Oracle games for me.

Edit: Midna in Twilight Princess is my favorite companion.

Oh for pete's sake...

The screenshot is stupid, the game has a pretty nice lighting engine in like 90% of the rest of the game that isn't looking at a giant tree.

Everyone already complained that the BLOOOOOM was awful in Wind Waker, so if they're cutting back that should make you all happy no? I also thought TP was one of the games that aged super well. The biggest graphical issue being the muddy textures, which I'm guessing is the main fix for the HD version.

Dude, we are talking about a remake ten years after the original.
The original looked great for its time. But for 2016, it needs much more than just better textures

Sad that they didn't put in an updated shadow system. The one in WW had its fair share of issues, but I appreciated it being there.

Still gonna be happy to see the 16-bit color dithering and muddy textures gone.

I've heard it has some of the strongest temples despite having items that are totally useless outside of them. I can't remember, I haven't played since the Wii release. I actually think I'll rebuy it and try again and try to get over my general distaste for it.

Twilight Princess felt so reactionary. I know I'm in no way unique saying this, but damn. They backpedaled hard post-Wind Waker. So it ended up coming across as The Attitude Era. Like a really late reaction to Shadow the Hedgehog. I felt I'd see Wolf Link patches at Hot Topic. It rubbed me all the wrong way because I felt like instead of it having a unique charm, I seemed to be trying sooooo hard.

It's saving grace to me (and this is shallow) is that narrative it could explain the origin of Majora. I like that. That was a grim Zelda game that didn't relay on the edge. It nailed it's tone without the "rad"-ness. It did it all with atmosphere and character. Man, that game gave you a sense of dread. You can feel how afraid everyone is to die and their different reaction to it. Denial, anger, fear, sadness. Some people are pleading and some are staring at the moon and denying it.

I got on a tangent somewhere... Oh yeah, I'm going to buy this.

There are always people prefer other Zelda games. In my opinion, Twilight Princess is one of the best Zelda games and one of the best games of all time. It sure has some issues, but absolutely no game is perfect, there are so many great moments in the game, music is amazing, atmosphere top notch and gameplay (aside from a couple of mistakes) fun and polished.

I'm going to be really disappointed if they don't upgrade the game beyond amiibo and visuals. Granted it practically needs a veritable remake to fix its real flaws, but even if they just gave the game a new intro that's over in 20 minutes I'd be fine.

By the position of the bow in the screenshot motion controls for aiming are pretty much given, like in WW HD.

I'm hoping for one thing, loading the entire map at once. That would be pretty cool!
New small areas with caves would be great, but I don't think it's happening.

This is no WW HD, but there is only so much you can do to polish a turd.

Sorry, what?

There's plenty they could do to improve how this game looks. The problem is, unlike WWHD, it's been farmed out to a 3rd party, and they're hardly a top tier developer.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tantalus_Media#Developer

If this was being done in house like WWHD was, I'm sure it'd look better than it does.

I would actually like to hear how the Funky Barn developer managed to land a Zelda game remake contract.

dungeons are decent
all the rest is garbage

ww's overworld is ok, dungeons are cool, but there's not enough and too much padding too, as a comparison

It has the best dungeons in a Zelda 3d game. For that and for the atmosphere is my favorite Zelda 3d game.

WW and MM have better dungeons
OoT has great dungeons that are straight to the point no bullshit like TP's
TP's dungeons are ok but they're trying too hard to stand out (except the first)

I wouldn't call TP a turd. Do you really blame TP for the low efforts Nintendo made with the remake? Some user here posted a photoshop image of TP HD with shadows added a while ago, and it looks much better already. TP could easily be a beautiful game with a more dynamic lighting engine (like WW HD) the already improved textures and some shader effects added.

Aside from that, WW HD had actual effort.

What Nintendo does with TP HD is beyond lazy, it's a offense to everyone who loves this game and anticipated a remake for a long time. As a huge fan of the game, seeing this game's potential wasted so much offended me almost as much as Metroid Federation Force.

And they charge 45$ for that. Seriously...

Oh wait, I forgot. You get a amazing Amiibo. Yeah, screw that, I'd rather want a good remake of one of my favorite games.

They also ported Deus Ex to Wii U (a great port).

As I posted just above, yeah, most of this is on the mark. They farmed it out to a no-name developer presumably to help pad the release calendar. Real shame the one major remake chance this game will have for the foreseeable future is wasted when it perhaps needed it more than any other zelda.#

They did? Huh. I remember hearing decent things about that, but the visuals aren't promising much here and I can't help but feel Nintendo wouldn't let them make any serious changes (given WWHD, OOT3D and MM3D with the exception of graphics are pretty darn similar barring quite small changes to the originals)

WWHD actually had Nintendo working on it.

They're gonna need to announce some cool changes for me to buy this.

Visually we're likely not getting anything other than improved textures, maybe a few other nuances, however I wouldn't be surprised if some of the Zelda team worked a bit on the remake to help the team working on it.

I'll be happy to play Twilight Princess on a more traditional controller with visuals retooled a bit. I'm not gonna lie, it's a lazy effort, but fuck, it's been a while since I played the game and being given the opportunity to play with some nice new features is appreciated.

TP has the best dungeons, up there with OoT, imo.

MM has good dungeons but I'd say WW probably has the worst (but still not bad by any means).

How is Tantalus a no-name developer?

To be blunt, they worked on a bunch of mediocre film/cartoon/ tie in games, some stuff for THQ, Funky barn, and, apparently Deus Ex and Zombii ports. Beyond those last two, that's hardly the kind of resume I'd want to see from someone given charge of a huge Nintendo IP

Deus Ex for the Wii U indeed is.

This. If you play Zelda for the dungeons, TP will rank high. If you care about anything else, it just doesn't live up to the other entries in the series.

It has the best dungeons in a Zelda 3d game. For that and for the atmosphere is my favorite Zelda 3d game.

But the atmosphere is so half-assed. It has the dire predicament of Majora, but can't commit to it. Everyone is blissfully unaware of their danger, you're set to confront an antagonist who ends up being ineffectual, and then for the finale you're walked through a by-the-numbers final sequence. The problem is that there's no sense of urgency anywhere in this game, and it's all deadened by a pervading brown.

This is exactly what saddens me the most. Why they just didn't waited making a high budget TP remake after Zelda U released is beyond me.

The graphics are the last thing I want them to improve in this game. We already get HD resolution and widescreen. That's enough for me. What I want them to do is polish up the game itself, which they seem to be doing. Less Tears of Light to collect, shorter intro etc. There is really no way this won't be the definitive version of the game based on what we already know, which, in the end, is the most important thing.

Y'all do know that wwhd was probably mostly done by hexadrive a no name studio, like all there Zelda remakes.

well, eff, and it was done in 6 months too?

Wait, but i thought I remember people at nintendo like Aonuma saying they experimented with the lighting system, and it would influence the next zelda. That's what led me to believe they were more involved in wwhd than anything we've seen of tphd. And that it was made a lot faster.

cause they ported mass effect 3 and deus ex human revolution to the wiiu under the name straight right which were better ports than wwhd

It will have gameplay improvements too, and some new stuff!

it really amazes me that such a small team can do better than such a huge company.

Dungeons are some of my favorite. Hyrule Field is waaaaay too big and the first 2 hours ugh. I can't wait to replay it again though. I loved the Link and Zelda iterations as well as Midna of course.
