The Tales of Symphonia PC-Port is a mess!

hmm I'm pretty sure this is the most illogical post of today
I personally didn't pre-ordered Zestiria for Symphonia alone, it's just a nice bonus. Zestiria was a good port, and a good game on top of that. It's cheaper than the PS4 version as well. I regret nothing.
This is what i meant as unfortunate as symphonia pc port is it was not the reason we got zestiria for, w hich is a good port on its own and well worth the $40-50 price point

That settles it. I'm going to learn Japanese and get into game journalism so I can grill publishers about ports like this.

I'm being dumb and waiting to refund it because I have a tiny hope that they'll fix it once they see the reactions. I also worry that modders won't be able to fix it because of either lack of interest or because it's too much work.

Even if you spoke perfectly fluent Japanese, I'd still wish you all the luck in the world. You would need that and +1 to get any answers from that lot.

Thank god Steam has refunds now.

Except you can't get a refund on a game that you got for free as a bonus for pre-ordering another game.

Which is, of course, most likely part of the reason why they probably felt like they could get away with half-assing this one.

Symphonia is not the only factor. It's free if you pre-ordered Zestiria. Zestiria is cheaper than PS4 version. I can go on. Many people pre-ordered Zestiria not because of Symphonia. Many other people even bought the game after release.

Why can't people see this as a possibility?

Like I said, people in this thread did exactly that (someone even quoted me and said as much!). If that sounds so illogical to you, take it up with them.

Finally started Chronicles on the PlayStation 3.

I wish it were still 60 frames per second, but oh well. It's still fine, and it looks good remastered.

Loving the game just as much as before.

I wonder if Bumco payed the one guy who ported this (the idea that a team of people produced this is just an insult to porting teams) more than 1000$ bucks? If not, this might still be the most profitable version of Symphonia, in relative numbers.

But it is really insulting how certain Japanese publishers treat the PC platform. Even a 20$ game should have the most basic amount of Q&A possible. At least someone from the company firing it up and looking at the menus. This is disgusting. At least no one has to pay for it, with Steam Refunds. Might become an effective way to spot JRPG fans on PC with masochistic tendencies in the future.

After all these years and the best version of the game is still trapped in the GameCube...

How is the gamecube version using an emulator? =/

Considering the amount of effort they put into the console re-release version, I am not surprised they did jack squat to the PC version.

I still don't understand the decision to suddenly put DRM on the game. Their other Steam releases don't do this as far as I can remember. Steam pretty much acts as the DRM anyway. The higher ups at Namco better find the people responsible for this terrible port and rake them through the coals.

Runs pretty great with a few minor visual glitches here and there that can be tweaked a bit to not be as bad as it originally looks. Runs at perfect 60fps on combat and the performance on the world map seems to be decent.

Unlikely given that the DRM uses a random string of characters for the .exe every time it launches. GeDoSaTo can't do shit with it.

GeDoSaTo can use wildcards. "sec*" will find the Symphonia .exe, but you won't really notice a different cause of the internal resolution lock

Wow. Someone should be fired for doing their job?

After all the pirated copies of the Witness, I'm not surprised a company is trying to copy protect their games. I personally want more Japanese games on PC and if it's drm or nothing at all, I'll take the drm.

The Witness PS4 isn't actually selling much better -- if any better -- than the PC version. Blow's piracy comments were blown entirely out of proportion by sites looking for clicks and people with an emotional attachment to their platform of choice looking for an excuse to flaunt moral superiority.

Well way to ruin a great thing you had going after Zestiria's good port, Namco. People aren't exactly going to be jumping on board your next pre-order offer with this mess fresh in their mind.

Hey.

Hey.

Hey.

HEY.

As bad and laughable as this port is it is not as bad as the Phantasia GBA port.
The GBA port has a reasonable excuse for most of its problems

Kangaroo is silly, but was an apparent honest mistake with the spellcheck

This port doesn't really have any excuse for being so lazy.

The Japanese steam games fanboys are crazy.

They are totally OK with One Piece Musou pc vita-like graphics.

This is why I can't commit to PC only. Shit ports happen to often still.

It does feel like devs frequently focus on the console versions and dump it on PC as an afterthought. I mean, the majority are fine I'm sure, but I just built a new PC in October and have already seen a few questionable releases.
