The Tales of Symphonia PC-Port is a mess!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that statement. If you think that what he said is a slight towards PC gaming then I don't know what to say to you.

If most multiplats weren't better on PC he would have a more valid point IMO. As it is every platform gets a fair share of crap ports.

Why do I have a feeling this bizarro no-name DRM that's included and was cracked day 1 is basically someday at Namco's buddy who made up a fake DRM to sell it to his friend at the company to scam some bucks from Scamco?

Being PC exclusive on the bank of playing PC version makes little sense even today, but this isn't the ideal example considering the best version is on GCN, which not exactly a contemporary platform.

A better example would be something like Arkham Knight.

Seriously. I like that Japanese games are coming to PC at an alarming rate, but it seems like every other one is just busted. Kinda sad.
Barring koei tecmo ports, various jp games released on steam in past months have all been good
So far they are few and far between long as we are excluding koei tecmo games

Of course there is. Because shit ports concerns console as much. And even for big releases.
From my observation, a shit console port will also have a shit PC port(maybe comparatively less shit if you have the hardware) and by shit I mean the truly shit ones, not just some frame drops and the like. I'm talking AC:U levels of shit. Both consoles and PC gets their fair share of bad ports but I don't see what's wrong with having a console and PC and buying the console version if the PC port is Arkham Knight tier trash or buying the PC version of a game if the console version is trash as well.

I agree. It seems like poorly optimized releases on console are also poorly optimized on PC, its just that you can brute force them to run decent if you have the hardware. The same can't be said for buggy releases, those seem to affect all platforms.

Either way this is probably getting a bit off topic. Hopefully they release some massive patches for this

Pulling these images from a Steam thread:

Dolphin on left. Bleh.

Edit: Apparently they didn't apply the widescreen fix for the Dolphin screens.
Here you go, I just took these screenshots a few minutes ago. 3x Internal Resolution (1080p), 8x MSAA, 16x Anisotropic Filtering, Widescreen fix on (Action Replay code). Dolphin on the left.

I paid good money for this Dynex!

Isn't this Bamco, though?

And a lot of the smaller games have had shitty ports. Stuff like the Umihara Kawase games, Azure Striker Gunvolt, etc. A lot of ports are fine, yes, but I still don't feel like it's nearly as consistent as it should be.

Well, the company went out of business very quickly after Umihara hit Steam, which is why they were taken down off of Steam. I think they had bigger things to worry about at the time than putting more money and time into the PC port.

Has it been a day yet? A day is what it takes Durante to fix what developers fail to do in months/ years, right?

Shame how much better the Dolphin screens look besides the font.

I don't even know how they can treat their game like this, Symphonia seems to be the defining Tales of game, you'd think they'd have more pride in one of the most popular games in the franchise. It'd be kind of understandable if they were porting them all and symphonia was one of the obscure ones that everyone wanted to forget.

wow that DRM sounds hilarious :-D
iirc ToZ used Securom from SonyDADC/Denuvo or whatever name they use for the lighter protections

11. And something to chuckle about. Apparently the one who is in charge of the discussionforums for this port was called "Lazy Mofo" on Steam. After being called out, he changed his Steam name.

You can't make this stuff up. It's really all quite astounding isn't it? It's a real shame that we are still experiencing half-assed PC ports, I really thought we had proceeded past that point years ago.

Even more amusing is that he's been VAC-banned. Granted, it was more than 10 years ago now, but when representing a company it's probably not the best idea to use your own account when it's branded with the Steam equivalent of a scarlet letter.

Wow, you gotta actively go out of your way to make a port this bad. What happened after the zestiria port? Different studio?

Not to be going full internet detective or anything, but I just noticed that he doesn't own the game on this account either. I kind of expected that to be a prerequisite for being a community representative.

This is really sad. I was looking forward to replaying Symphonia after Zesteria bored me to tears about 20 hours in.

If I cared about Symphonia I'd look at this.

Actually, that statement doesn't make much sense. 99% of all ported games are better than the console versions.

We hear ya.

Shittiest bit is that they offered this port as incentive to by Zesteria. That's just mean.

Huh. Namco's ports have been pretty good, so this was the last game I expected to turn out badly. I didn't expect them to iron out the flaws of the original HD remaster, but I sure didn't expect them to introduce new issues. Weird.

Zestiria is so much better on every level than Symphonia.

The combat is interesting but I just can't make myself care about these characters at all. At least Lloyd was somewhat tolerable aside from the hot/cold scene. I'll probably force myself through the main story at some point.

They really must have scraped the bottom of the porting "studio" barrel with this one.

(Unlike Zestiria or pretty much any other recent Namco game which were ported by capable studios)

I know tension is high here but let's not get crazy now
I've been saying that long before all this happened.

I think Symphonia is a perfectly mediocre game rated highly purely due to its history.

This is disappointing. Tales of Symphonia has always been a popular game, and people, me included, were looking forward to it, either to play it again or for the first time. It is a good introduction to the series, and it really pains me to see that lots of people could be turned off entirely from the series because of this awful port.

This really wasn't the game to screw up, Bamco.

EDIT :

If I cared about Symphonia I'd look at this.
Well, damn, it's over.
