Red Dead Reremption is now backwards compatible on Xbox One

19 fps during shooting session on Xbone. Really?

It's not even officially out yet, and there's no indication of when it will be out outside a chat rep giving tidbits on a Sunday afternoon.

So yes, really. You have to be aware it's a work in progress, and to still feign dissapointment like there's no chance it will be fixed is just unnecessary and an overreaction.

Emulation != Remaster ;-)

Its probably best to be clear that its even a bit different than that. It tricks the Xbox One into thinking it has a Xbox 360 inside and does NOT run faster, or do anything else like most emulators without speed limiters. Everything from the memory timing and so on are hardcoded in. Which has actually caused problems like the Kinect issue.

I've been playing this all today and managed to make it to Mexico. Kind of afraid to exit the game and risk ot not working again. Does anyone know if the "offline mode" trick still works?

I see that X360 dips mostly in cut-scenes ( and during horse riding @3:00) where Xbone is more stable. But after in video, gameplay is a different story on Xbone.

No XB1 purchase from you then? Bummer.

Xbone Jaguar 8-core x86 CPU @ 1.75 GHz: 112 Gflops
360 Xenon 3-core CPU @ 3.2 GHz: 115 Gflops

There's a chance that SIMD-intensive code (read: VMX128) brings Jaguar down to its knees. AFAIK, they recompile PPC code to the x86 equivalent.

The Xbone GPU is stronger than the 360 GPU though (1.31 Tflops vs 240 Gflops), so it makes sense that GPU heavy segments (i.e. cutscenes) run at a steady 30fps via V-Sync easily.

Jaguar is not that bad, it's just that it wasn't designed to excel in floating point operations, hence the opcode translation will never be perfect performance-wise. That's why we have GPGPU these days.

It would be really cool if they could convert VMX128 code to GPGPU code. If that's doable, then perhaps PS3 (read: Cell SPU) emulation could be feasible as well. :)

I can't understand half of that but what I do know is that PS3 emulation is nowhere near feasible.

Just picked up a used copy with map and all for 8 bucks in really good condition. Super Bowl party should get me through tomorrow but I sure hope its up for physical discs soon. So excited to play this again.

It's kinda tricky to emulate the Cell SPUs and the nVidia G70 GPU as well.

OG XBOX also has an nVidia GPU that makes emulation tricky, despite its x86 CPU (Pentium 3).

I thought that issue was more legally difficult than technically difficult.

There are technical (low-level nVidia GPU code) and legal issues as well. Legal issues don't matter though when we're talking about PC emulators. Has anyone emulated OG XBOX successfully?

Microsoft was really smart to choose AMD as their GPU vendor for their 2nd console...

People are excited about being allowed to play a game they already own.

I can still play mine offline? I didn't allow the patch to go thru though. Maybe that's what the patch is doing?

Oh it's probably because there are two Xbox One's in the house with game sharing.
My Xbox isn't my Xbox according to Microsoft.

I could switch that back or just wait.

Confused at the insane excitement over playing an emulated version of RDR2. Bring me RDR3, then I'll do backflips.

...and no need to question my RDR love, I 100%'ed Red Dead Redemption.

How would you rank RDR2 versus the original RDR? I've never played that one.

Would not surprise me if these accidental "leaks" are being staged for hype.
I would have thought the same, though Tekken Tag can completely (and consistently) hang the X1 when customising certain characters (Feng for example). These games are in beta.

Saw the title, ran up to my xbox and tried to run the game. It wouldn't....checked out the rest of the thread......I'm crying right now.

Played a little in offline mode. So good. I will probably actually play through it again when it's officially available. Fun fun.

There is probably a much better chance that there will be and RDR remaster in the next year or two than Valve announcing L4D3/HL3. *shrugs*

How is it trolling? It's the truth. Most people have a 360 to play it on already. Why go out and buy an expensive console to play an old game?

Uummm....because maybe just maybe in addition to being able to play red dead redemption from the 360 he can also play next gen games on the Xbox One.

Last I checked you can't play Xbox one games on the Xbox 360. So yes I agree people need to stop trolling and wasting people's time with posts like that. Even worse are people like you trying to defend it.

My guess is you're either a disgruntled ps4 owner because Sony isn't ( or can't)provide BC for PS3 games and you guys can't do anything but troll or you truly need to look up what the definition of backwards compatibility is...

....good lord.

According to Major Nelson on Reddit:

"Microsoft tests all Xbox 360 games with our emulator to ensure a quality experience across a breadth of titles. Due to an error, some of the games currently in test were accidentally made available. We have since removed access to those games, and apologize for any confusion this may have caused. We will have more information on upcoming releases soon."
