Why does that tiger care so much if one kid is allowed to run around the jungle? I have almost zero recollection of the original movie beyond a couple songs.

men = hunters

In the original, Mowgli does ask Bagheera (sp?) why would Shere-kan (sp?) care for a single 10 years old kid who would never harm animals, panther says it doesn't make a difference / that line of reasoning wouldn't work with him.

This looked pretty good, unlike all mostly useless Disney live action remakes.
This actually makes sense in terms of entertainment.

The kid is perfect; the body is absolutely spot on and the way he moves, jumps, swings is incredibly faithful to the original animation, although i suspect that's mostly CG.

All y'all in here talking about Jim Cummings voicing Kaa like you know what you're saying. Psh.

Kaa was voiced by Sterling Holloway, who was also the original voice of Pooh, and who Jim Cummings imitates these days to voice current Pooh.

I like the vibe it has, but I cannot get over the mouth-movement of the animals when they talk. It feels.... off.

Christopher Walken as King Louie is ace, though.

Why do these hollywood films always take actors to be voice actors? I mean, voice actors are probably a hell-of-a-lot cheaper and often better at the job.

I've never heard anyone say "I gotta go see this movie, Scarlet Johansson is voice-acting in it!"

The only reason I went to see Shrek was because Eddie Murphy and Mike Meyers were doing the voice-acting.

Really wish they had used Kingsley for Kahn, seems like a better fit.

But yeah this movie is going to be great for little boys all around the world. Almost sad mine is still too young.

It looks good, colored me surprise. Although I really like Favreau.

But...
Favreau, do the damn Magic Kingdom movie, man!!!!!!
I want disneyland and animatronics como to live, and I know how much you love Walt, so I want that partners statue moving and talking about dreams.

Looks fantastic.

Idris Elba and Scarlett Johansson seem like really poor choices for their respective characters, though.

Also John Goodman as Baloo might have been a better fit than Murray.

I like it. The voices sound weird because we're too much used with the cartoon voices. They are ingrained into our brain since our early childhood and any other voice sounds out of place. But I think I will get used to it during the movie.

I think the previous trailer did a better job showcasing Scarlett Johansson's voice as Kaa - calmly and gently lulling Mowgli into a false sense of security, but with a sinister edge that comes through as she says "trusssssssst in me":

Yeah, that sounds much better.

I don't even remember the cartoon, the voices still are off.

The voices are really off. Like the trailer really worked when it had the music playing and the fast paced scenes but every time someone spoke it was a 'maybe i'll stick the cartoon' moment.

I'm not at all impressed to be honest, but we'll see.

You beat me to it.

Looks seriously awesome. The first trailer was suprisingly epic and made the film go from "no interest" to "will see in theaters". This trailer nearly put me in "day 1" territory. This could be one of my favorite adaptations ever.

But then again...that Serkis one...still out there...

EDIT:

Also, did anyone else think that Bill Murray's lazy eyed Baloo look like the third panel here?

Looks great. Actually kinda excited to see if the 1994 version finally gets a bluray release because of this one. That film would look beautiful on bluray. Shame it's sort of a forgotten movie.

What's the deal with how the trailer broke out of it's letter boxing in a pseudo-3D effect? Is that something they're going to do throughout the movie in the theater (putting horizontal lines), or just something for TV / commercial?

??? The entire trailer is 16:9. Where did you see that?

Commercial, it's a 3d effect without a 3d TV, you see it in gifs all the time

A couple of movies have actually done that, like Life of Pi.

Man. When the Bear Necessities kicked in, I got goosebumps on my goosebumps. Frickin great trailer. Can't wait.

I'm just a bit gutted my son is too young to see this in April!

Kingsley and Murray are about the only voices I'm really feeling. I think it's just difficult to give human voices to more realistic looking CGI animals as opposed to hand-drawn characters that can have very distinctive facial features that "meld" with the voice. I'm a bit surprised, even though it's going for a realistic visual style, that the animals aren't more stylized for that very reason.

I'm living for that reorchestration of Bear Necessities though!!

It made smile a big fucking smile. My 4yr old daughter immediatly recognized it was jungle book from the moment Bagheera pounced on Mowgli in the beginning.

Haha this is going to be bad I think. Looks cool visually but the voice acting is jarring. Also the acting from the little kid in those couple of lines sounds terrible. They should have just made all the animals silent. I predict a bomb.

You really think Jungle Book will bomb?

Yeah, in the same way last year's Pan did. This looks that bad , imo. Probably have a big opening weekend but the drop-off will be huge. Assuming it gets poor reviews, which I think it will.

Pan wasn't the real Pan though. It was a very weird and shit take on it. This is basically Jungle Book updated.

In the animated movie or maybe it was the book, I think it's implied that Shere Kahn fully expects Mowgli to become a hunter when he grows up since he was the only tiger around due to the rest of his kind being hunted for their pelts, leading to him loathing humans for more than just being a meal

In the book, Shere Kahn was a manhunter simply because he was lamed from an old injury, like irl tigers who become maneaters because they have something wrong with them that keeps them from going after usual prey. To call the Disney film a "broad strokes" adaptation is still an understatement.

They kind of switched the stature of Kaa and Shere Kahn. Kipling's tiger was "dangerous but craven and kind of pathetic," which is what Disney did to Kaa, while Kipling's snake was feared and respected, but with a certain nobility about him (he ended up as Mowgli's ally, too).

My problem with the movie is that you're doing a live action take that still has to be 90% CGI. It's the wrong movie to do a live action adaptation of, especially since goofy talking CGI animals (not all portrayed as goofy, but Baloo and Louie will be enough) don't have the best track record for being associated with quality cinema.

I'm looking forward to this, as someone who only saw the '94 version instead of the animated film. I really dig the look of the movie being kinda photorealistic.

Other than the bear the voices seem a bit...disjointed from the animation, out of place. I guess its because its trying to be realistic rather than the voices to animation styles we're used to.

Oh, okay.
There just a little bit too much or real things in this movie, like the actor who plays Mowgli is real. Sometimes.
