Tequila Works reaquired the rights to RiME

Was hopeful even thought their past release, Deadlight, was not good at all. This seems to confirm the fact that this likely won't be worth your excitement.

To "re- acquire" means they had to pay for it (and I don't see Sony letting an IP go without $ too)... So I guess they found an investor to be able to do so?

Wth happened/ is happening with Tequila... They convinced Sony to invest in an exclusive, and (it sounds like) they dropped the ball pretty hard.

Otoh at least if the game ever does get finished it has a more than good chance to be multiplat.

What does this mean for it's development? I was REALLY looking forward to it. Hope it doesn't change too much.

My hope is beginning to dwindle on this game. Want the best in the end but it's hard not to get nervous if Sony indeed opted to drop the game.

Can Sony do that? Dropping the game halfway?

Why wouldn't they be able to do that? It was their IP, so they've obviously sold it back to Tequila Works. My guess is that the game wasn't coming together and was taking so long to develop that Sony was going to cancel it altogether, but then TW asked if they could buy it outright which Sony agreed to.

It really seemed to ambitious for them, and with the rumor that it was actually a Tower Defense game and that they were reworking it based on the public reaction didn't sound good.

I still hope it comes out and maybe play it some day, but this really doesn't inspire confidence.

There were several rumors from a spanish forum (can't remember or find right now) about their development troubles and how Sony execs were going there every week and the game just wasn't fun to play at all.

Well, it's a shame, the game looked promising. Hoping for the best.

I had no understanding of the dev's track record but was really excited for this game just off the idea of running about a world that looked like that one. Hopefully the ship gets righted and they can put a better game out soon.

Well, that's goes good with the rumor I brought here some months ago about Sony not happy with the development...
It must be a mess.

Good news: It'll probably be on other platforms.

Bad news: It'll probably be awful, if it releases at all.

Seriously, though, this is kind of unprecedented. I imagine there are stipulations in place for ending the contract, but they must have some serious failures attached to them. I'm imagining a lot of blown deadlines and / or misspending of money. Still interesting that they were actually given BACK the rights by Sony, as opposed to just having the whole project canned.

Fuck. Was just thinking about this game last week and how we haven't seen or heard about it for a while now.

Hopefully it stays alive.

Also, seems like the rumors about this game being boring and not fun could be very true.

Or a technical mess, or scope creep, etc... I mean, if people will play Proteus for hours (like myself), then there was-- and still is-- an audience for a game with Rime's aesthetic regardless of the gameplay.

Beyond it looking pretty there was nothing to look forward to.

It's probably not fun to play and very aimless. That's the risk you run when designing something very much inspired by Team Ico or Journey or what have you. If takes a lot to make that stuff work.

This is Sony they were dealing with though; that they're the ones that have published all that stuff inclines me to think it must be pretty bad, possibly beyond saving.

Are you fucking serious?

Yeah, pretty fucking serious! Didn't intend to sound as harsh as I did, that's why I edited soon after.

They announced and needed this game to scratch the Team Ico itch back when TLG was still mythical.

I assume that Sony's need to pull Rime out from development hell is severely reduced now that TLG is actually coming out.

Deadlight wasn't very good so i never had high hopes for rime.

Didn't sony ditch Remember Me as well? That didn't turn out so hot in the end either.

Sony wouldn't drop that style or type of game unless there were some issues with its development. I guess it will be even longer before we see Rime again.

Man that sucks so bad. This game looks so beautiful, would be a shame if they can't get the gameplay right.

There were rumors a while back that it was actually a tower defense game? If true i know id be less into it.

Sony dropping out can't be a good sign.
