Tequila Works reaquired the rights to RiME

sputum-flecked apoplexy
I think it might be more about them laughing rather than setting the record straight and actually informing gamers about what's really happening...

okay but take a step back to where the 'information' in this thread is completely unsubstantiated.

i mean it might be true, i have no real idea. but remember how the last time GAF took insider info verbatim it resulted in borderline defamation and the banning of the person responsible.

True, but that information does somewhat back up previous rumours about the game being a bit of a mess.

We'll never know until the game is either cancelled or released...

To avoid any confusion and unnecessary escalation, that tweet is from July 1st 2015. I guess that is when they brought their medicore MOBA template to Sony, who gave them a couple of additional months to work. Seven months later and the project is dead.

The funds from Spain Gov. are dated September 2014 btw, so they may have been on good terms with Sony when they received that money.

With all due respect, please stop adding stuff to the thread like "Spain ™" and other disrespectul things towards spanish devs. We are all a very passionate bunch who bust our asses working everyday and making things as good as we possibly can just as other fellow devs in other countries.

I do not know the situation over at Tequila but I have a lot of good friends working there and I find hard to believe they are not thinking on other things than making an incredible game that will leave the industry in awe, just as they did with just a small trailer at the time.

Spanish media is reporting that Sony were informed about this yesterday. Sounds like it was Tequila's decision to drop the partnership.
If it was, and if Rime was indeed a Sony IP after they invested in the title over the past 3 years, how would they "reaquire" the IP unilateraly within 1 day?

Makes no sense.

The only thing that's frustrated me about Sony's relationship with Indies is how they'll announce a game then never bring it up again (sometimes for years) until maybe a week before release.

I wonder if they hold back finished games to launch when they want them to. If so, some devs might not like it.

Where is this MOBA talk coming from? Seems weird as the game never seemed to be like that, even if the trailers were just cinematic.

Originally, the game was pitched as MOBA/Tower Defense game.

Woah, mind blown.

The creative director of Tequila Works and the director of Rime responded to lherre's post.

Respect, please.

Dude, if you're spanish you know what we are talking about: corruption, asshole incompetent thief bosses, public funds shenanigans... it's in every major company (and in every goverment department)

That said, any intelligent person knows this is not the norm with actual workers. We are all working our asses off for asshole rich people. Life is wonderful, isn't it?

Sure. I'm spanish and of course I know that. You are completely right. I just don't like generalisations and was stating that.

Always surprised me to see Raúl travelling around the world (not Rime business travels) etc... while game was in development...

did you follow him over the years, was it always like this? at a glance of his twitter, he certainly was well travelled within' the last 5 months, but not abnormally so, to be fair.

certainly wouldn't begrudge him of his own personal time off and or business travel in regards to RIME, but would this be normal of director of game that was so heavily troubled and under the crunch to deliver to be away from the project so much.

Damn.. Reading this thread makes it seem like the game might just be done or at least a totally bastardized version of what you would want, if it actually comes out..

That's sad, the art style was amazing, but when you see nothing from a game for years, it's usually not a good sign.

To be honest, I appreciate Tequila and the words aren't mine.

In fact, I hope the final info will be less dramatic than my report.

A lot of unnecessary speculation in here. Bottom line: Sony gave up an IP, which just does not happen usually. Might be because the game is bad, might be because the development process has been a mess, might be because of something else we have no idea about.

We just don't know. Takeaway here should be that the game is pretty much dead until they decide to show new stuff (if there is any). I personally "hope" Sony lost its patience and RIME will come out eventually as the great game the announcement trailer made it out to be.

there is enough evidence that most of this stuff is not rumors.

Let's hope this is resolved soon. The concept look pretty cool. Technically, I also think the look they went for was achievable on PS4.

Eh, at the end of the day, beyond all the rumors (true or false that they may be) the proof is in the pudding.

None of us shelled out money for the game yet, so it's on them to deliver.

If they do, everybody wins.
If they don't, they lose more than we do.

It's sad that it had to go this way though, RiME looked amazing.

Yeah that Driveclub story is what's keeping me on the fence, especially.
Besides, there's nothing to gain from going into angry mob mode.

Please, define the concept of "unnecessary speculation" in a videogame forum.

I think he/she means speculation unnecessarily depicted as fact?

Clearly Tequila Works has some shit going on, but there is some conclusion jumping going on in here, for sure.

what evidence? must have missed it (it's a big thread already), please link, thank you

lol, true

But jumping to the conclusion that the developers are incompetent goes a bit far without clear evidence, don't you think?

Game has been known for 3 years but we still don't have a proper gameplay introduction. If they can't give us a single piece gameplay then I don't know what they were cooking all these years. And this is videogame forum, sure enough we may have speculation don't you think? Hence why rumor threads are allowed to be made

No media shown, no updates on what they are working on, nothing. A simple 5min video of some work in progress gameplay would be enough to put these rumors to rest.

For Sony to drop them things must have been bad. Sony has published a bunch of flops that made zero business sense, so you have to wonder just how bad this game was turning out to be.

So the development wasn't going anywhere and Sony decided to ditch the project? That's a shame, game looked really nice. Hopefully they get their shit together and can produce a game from this mess.

We asked the studio directly re: Iherre's leak.

They came back reassuring they're confident and committed to their project:

"We keep working on the game (now even with expanded workforce and new offices to house it) and you'll get to know more in the future".

Indeed. Shitz happenz everywhere, please all be respectful and don't fall to that cheap insulting ways.

That's not accurate, to say the least.

Sony released The Order 1886 and I bet they knew it was goddamn boring but they still released it anyway because it was finished as an acceptable product which they can sell. No way they drop RIME because of boring test (this is a rumor from months ago so take it with grain of salt), it either didn't meet the milestone (like SSM's new IP) or had bad management so they had to drop it.

I know. But as soon as it gets on a personal level we should be more cautious is all I'm saying.

Yeah, mekes sense.
Maybe tomorrow Sony will discover that Insomniac reacquired Ratchet and Clank rights.

The thing is, it is much easy to believe Iherre history than the developers one.

If Sony droped the support it is for something. And that's all. I really doubt we'll see Rime in any form.

And btw... On the comments from the Spanish media...that doesn't make any sense.

I might not agree, but it is hilarious.

Lherre didn't said anything about they canceling RiME and you cannot honestly believe that they would admit being bad at managing projects. As far I know from talking with devs RiME is getting finished and the heads are focused in a new project with additional devs.

Yeah, the project is not cancelled, my info only shows the problems they had with it and why we have 3 years with no new info.
