Xbox Details E3 Plans

I dont really see the need for that... VR is a gimmick. And i dont see why MIcrosoft should build a expensive console just to cater to a gimmick.

Power alone isn't a gimmick. It's a core value pillar for the console. Whether it's spent rendering VR games or non-VR games doesn't matter. It's not like the power would be going to waste when you're not using the headset.

As far as partnering with Oculus: it just makes too much sense for both companies. Oculus needs to get a foothold in the living room, and Microsoft needs to make the Xbox/Win10 ecosystem more attractive.

Literally the only reason I still have my XB1. Here's hoping we get a proper sequel announced this year!

Never, ever get this idea. Banjo isn't out, if it even exists (I doubt). If there is nothing else you are using your console for, why on earth have it?

Also, whoever said it, Gigantic wasn't cancelled.

I know it shouldn't be that important, but ReCore being built on Unity has really put me off.

Hasn't put me off but it definitely made me feel realise this game won't be what people think it is.

If I can dig up my post from last E3, I predicted that ReCore is a 2.5D metroidvania a la Strider/Shadow Complex.

Thus far, I see no reason to deviate from this prediction. Is that a bad thing? No. I LOVE metroidvanias. But if I'm right, Microsoft have been somewhat deceptive with the way they've spoken about it and made it out to be a AAA title.

Ori was heavily pushed by MS and it's a glorious game. But MS never made it out to be anything other than what it is.

I suspect that when ReCore is revealed, the reactions and subsequent threads will be...interesting

Expecting:

Sea of Thieves + New Rare Game
Recore
Crackdown beta
Scalebound
Killer Instinct General RAAM reveal
Forza
Two new IPs
Crimson Skies
Xbone Slim

HOPING:

Phantom Dust
Sunset Overdrive 2
Oculus/Xbox partnership stuff

So whatever the Rare Replay team was working on, plus Remasters or something.

Phantom Dust HD?

Holy shit, this is the best scenario? Litteraly intersted in none of those. Will still watch the event. MS always has great kwynotes, except last year.

Oh damn I didn't know that. I'm not gonna claim I know a lot about this but from what I've heard Unity really isn't that great. Why are they even using it for a AAA game?

Really? So people really are looking forward to a smaller Xbox One? If they want my rupees again, they better bring a much upgraded console. Not just smaller. Because it's pretty fine where it sits right now in my AV furniture.

My bedroom is not very large. I don't have room for the current Xbone, it's just too big.

A slim allows me to grab the few Xbone exclusive games I've been interested that are out now.

Inafune hints at here that it's a 3D action game though.

Why is everybody assuming that Rare might show another game at E3 in addition to Sea of Thieves gameplay? Do we know they're working on something else as well, or is this just speculation? Rare's been very quiet so far.

Do we even know if ReCore is AAA?

It's $60 and Shinobi said it's "not a small game", so it seems like it is. I don't know if they've ever officially confirmed it.

In one of their vids they said they were working on 3 projects IIRC. I assume two of them were Rare Replay and SoT, the other is unknown.

iirc they were hiring a while back looking for people with experience in a completely different engine than SoT is using.

Hmmm, so it's not an action adventure. Was kind of hoping it was.

Ah I see. Yeah I can see why that would be good then.

That's good to know that Shinobi said that, didn't know that. I just really really hope we finally get to see something from it. Going a full year without any updates really isn't a good look. Even if the game comes out next year, it doesn't matter but finally show something.

They really shouldn't have announced it so early though and that initial release window was ridiculous to begin with.

If ReCore is a 2.5d anything it will be the greatest bait and switch since Bernie Madoff told investors he had a sure fire thing for their retirement funds.

Actually, they never outright stated that they were working on any other projects. They stated they have four development barns, and two of those barns were working on SoT and Rare Replay. It's unknown whether all four of these barns are used for developing games. One of them could be the testing department, for instance.

Are you talking about Unity? SoT uses UE4, so there could be a project using Unity in the works.

From the website of one Armature developer last year:
ReCore is an upcoming 3rd-person action adventure game being developed in partnership with Keiji Inafune, exclusive for Xbox One and Windows 10. In ReCore, you play one of the last surviving humans and team up with a variety of robot companions to travel through a hostile and mysterious world.

I'm not sure if the number of 30 employees Wikipedia mentions is accurate these days but in any case, Armature is a rather small studio that hasn't really released any large projects in its history. So I really wouldn't expect it to be a super mega AAA blockbuster title.

What are the chances of a Halo 5 spin off/single player DLC story being revealed? (kind of like Reach/ODST).

Since 2009 there has been at least 1 Halo game every year, albeit one was a mobile game and some re-releases.

2017 would be too soon for Halo 6, right? Even 2018 may be. But would they leave a year Halo free?

One criticism I often saw was the lack of background for each of the respective 'teams'. I know the extended lore had plenty of insight, particularly into Blue Team. Ive not read them myself, but I know some high level details.

Then there was Hunt The Truth, which was an excellent story in itself.

In fact, there is so much to tell in this world.

My prediction will be:

Halo Wars 2 Revealed - Introduced with amazing Blur CGI and a solid story trailer. Live game play demo on stage. Released Holiday 2016.

Halo 5 Ongoing Support/DLC - Josh Holmes talks about amazing success of Halo. How many bullets fired and all that jazz. Announce huge content updates coming throughout 2016... Fade to black....

... What is this? More Halo? Spartan Assault 3? Wait what... Is that? Holy. It is someone aiming down a sniper scope... Focus... Focus... OK is that? It is. Linda! Aiming at what looks like a Banshee. *Snipes Pilot*. *Fade to black* Halo 5 'Spin off' announced - released in 2017. Boom.

Halo 3 Anniversary, I doubt they will stop doing the Anniversary games after 2.

I thought Recore was going to be some sort of Open world 3rd person action adventure game?

All hype for me is lost if that's not the case, well I'll still hold judgement till I see but damn.

Really looking forward to this conference. It is the one that I feel has the most to gain or lose out of the big 3. For me, the lack of leaks thus far has been good. Of course, we still are over a month away. I remember an interview with Phil sometime last year where he said it is usually a month out is when things are locked in for the conference, so it a matter of a few weeks, internally they will know exactly what they will be showing and preparing for the conference...so perhaps some leaks will happen as we get closer.

As far as what they will show, it really is up in the air. There are obvious things like Gears 4, Crackdown, Halo Wars 2, Re-Core etc...I think Scalebound will be pushed to another show kind of like what they did with Quantum Break.

I am just really looking forward to the unknown and if they do show new hardware (controller or console).

Halo 3 would be a complete waste of resources. 2017 needs to be a break year in terms of releases for Halo, and should only focus on post launch support for Halo 5 and Halo Wars 2.

xbox needs to impress me this year.

my xb1 has been collecting dust really, as I've lately only used it for playing media not compatible with the ps4, hbo now on sundays for GoT, and forza/horizon. I've lost interest in Gears and Halo and I've already switched to buying all my third party stuff on the ps4. MS isn't doing a VR thing, and I don't even care about achievements anymore when I hit the 90 thousands.

HOPING:

Phantom Dust

Man, still depressed with how dirty MS fucked people with phantom dust. CG trailer to get goodwill and hype, only for it to be completely unrelated to work actually being done by the studio, and was cancelled quietly later anyways.

Halo 3 Anniversary, I doubt they will stop doing the Anniversary games after 2.

While a proper anniversary update would be great, the MCC port holds up really well, so I personally don't see it happening.

But damn, 2017 would be 10 years since Halo 3. That is mad.

I'd love to see Phantom Dust resurrected - I was so hyped that it was supposedly coming back.

Also, I'd like to be surprised and see more of the game that Moon Studios was playing around with. It looked like it would be a lot of fun.

A season 2 of free Halo 5 DLC is my most wanted announcement this E3. Never, ever thought I'd think that post MCC and Halo 4.

The dream announcement is a Chromehounds sequel powered by Crackdown's cloud-compute stuff, with straight up MechAssault-style strafing through buildings.

Sunset Overdrive was announced in the same fashion - kinda deceptive/ambiguous CGI trailer at E3 2013, radio-silence apart from a bit of art, first gameplay shown E3 week 2014, released by the end of the year. It sounds as though the game's going to use some sort of procedurally generated landscape, so that should help them release fairly quickly.

Feeling that they'll release the Crackdown 3 Multiplayer Beta during (or several hours after) the conference. That game's going to turn a lot of heads if it lives up to even half of its tech-promises.

Microsoft have a very good potential line up this E3.

Excited to see; ReCore, Scalebound, Halo Wars and Gears 4.

Wasn't there rumours that Remedy had been working on another project for a while now? Don't recall where I read it, may have been here on GAF. If true, I will only accept AW2.

Currently only use my Xbox for the fantastic Halo 5 multiplayer, would like some more justification for owning one.

Also curious to see what direction Microsoft would take their next console iteration in. They need a spec bump more that Sony did - interested in seeing how far they take it.

The "tech" better be a new xbox with powerful hardware this time.A new xbox generation and non an upgrade of the xbox one.

Don't know if anyone mentioned this but... Halo: Reach Anniversary's announced and will be $5 or $10 DLC for MCC. Boom! MCC is now a complete collection for Halo.

Believe!
