Wow, CNN has a video of the suicide bomber detonating on their front page. What a horribly intimate, lonely, and troubling video even in its grainy form.

Congratulations, Mr. Bomber. You exploding yourself made front page news, complete with video.

I'm sure your atheist group will be very proud. Oh, wait.

But seriously, I refrain from posting in the threads about how atheists are rude assholes, because I personally don't defend the Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris types of the world, because I agree they can be fucking cunts.

But I'm really glad they don't do shit like this. I'm gutted and terribly depressed. Someday we will be, collectively, more enlightened than this. And I don't mean we'll live in a world without faith. I mean we'll live in a world with reform in more splinters of faiths, reforms like most people of faith have already been born into. I'll be dead by then, though. Ugh.

Debating if this earns them my boycott or not. Absolutely shameless.

Did I understand it correctly, did CNN actually go online on FB and similar, trying to find posts of people mentioning their vacation, only to try to call them during the terrorist attack?

This would seal the deal on my boycott.

I wanted to dominate the living room. Then I took an ESRAM in the knee.
Got a hold of my friend.

A sharpnel to her chest, she is in ICU. Likely to survive.

I dont even know what to say.

All the best wishes to your friend. This is horrible and infuriating.

Many Turks initially blamed it on the Kurdish PKK, which was behind the previous Istanbul bombing earlier this month. But now Turkish officials have said that ISIS is behind this airport attack, which is much deadlier.

It's worth noting that Kemal Ataturk is the man responsible for transforming the Ottoman Empire into the modern secular nation-state of Turkey, so the ISIS attack against Ataturk Airport could be seen as an attack against Turkish secularism.

which could be argued their current government is moving away from as it is... ugh, this is is all so depressingly fucked :(

According to some Turkish sources quoted in Arabic media
Nationalities of some of the casualties of the terrorist attack
5 Saudis
2 Iraqis
2 Tunisian
1 Ukrainian
1 Iranian

NSFW Video:

Turkish Police at the airport shoots one of the terrorists, while the terrorists is down he detonates his suicide vest.

This Police is a fucking hero.

Looks like he shot the guy, saw him still alive reaching for the detonator and then ran for cover.

Obviously I don't know how these bomb vests are made but if someone wearing a vest is shot and killed will it not explode if they can't manually detonate it?

Really depends on the type of trigger. A lot of these terrorists use manual detonation for their vests but dead man switches are also a thing.

An hour ago I learned that I lost my friend to the attack. Haven't seen her for more then three years but we occasionally chatted online. She was sweet and caring, working two jobs at the same time to provide for her family. Now she is gone and the last memory of her will be her mother's crying on the phone.

I am gutted, shocked and more then anything angered. Attackers were muslim, the victims were muslim. So tell me friends, do you still hate us? Will you close your borders to us? Will you look down on us? Tell your friends and politicians this, tell them that today a muslim lost his muslim friend to a muslim attack.

I am going to Istanbul in couple of hours. The terminal where 36 people have killed.

I'll bury my friend. But I will not bury my anger. It will burn in me for the rest of my life.

Utterly terrible. My condolences.

This attack made me realize that I had somehow shifted the Belgium airport attack entirely out of my memory. It's quite disturbing, I was thinking that this scenario sounded very familiar until the word Belgium popped up in my head for some reason. Perhaps I am becoming desensitized.

But enough about my nonsense. A day of tragedy and lament has fallen.

I'm sorry for your loss. It seriously angers me that people here are blaming Muslims and so quick to jump on them for this attack, but it doesn't seem to register in their thick skulls that Muslims were the primary victims in this attack.

Thank you all for your support. I lost a friend but her family lost a child. Hundreds of people, families were shaken.

I do believe these days will pass. We have a saying in Turkish;

Downtrodden's lament would topple down Kings.

I am so, so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your friend's family. Your anger is justified and I can't imagine how I'd feel in your situation. Again, I am so sorry :(

Fuck terrorists and fuck the racist xenophobic people who respond to these attacks with bigotry. We should respond to these senseless acts of hate by uniting with people of all walks of life across the world in shared humanity and kindness. Not dividing ourselves by race or religion and further retreating into our borders. I wish it were possible to have a world without evil, violence, and bigotry.

Yes you'd think people would stop voting for an Islamist. But cognitive dissonance is a powerful thing.

Voting for an Islamist? Are you... forreal?

I'm sorry, my friend. Seems like you are processing it quite well, which is good to see.

I'm really getting sick of these events happening. The sad part is that there is a 100% certainty that there WILL be another attack in the future, could be in 3 months, could be tomorrow. It's not a question of if but when, and how many more innocent casualties will be suffered.

The day that you accept acts of terrorism as an inevitability, is the day that the terrorists have won.

What a terrible attack.

Muslims are the primary victims of ISIS and the vast majority of terrorist attacks. It takes a special kind of ignorance to see that and think, "all Muslims are going to band together and wipe out the west!"

No but all religions have an obligation to wipe out internal hatred. This means condemning the call for death to apostates, death to homosexuals, death to abortion docs, death to whoever disagrees with your religion, etc, etc.

All religions have intolerance as a factor. That is a huge problem.

Many mainstream believers of all religions think violence is acceptable to defend their religion. This is where the problem starts.

Oh man, I'm so so sorry :( Please give the parents a hug from Patrick from Germany! Tell them we feel with them :(

How can they first tell you it's "only" a broken rib when the wounds were, in reality, fatal?

This world is just horrible, man. Here we are worrying about stuff like if one graphics card will give you 5 fps more than the other or if it will run 5° cooler while playing some stupid game, when at the same time shit like this is happening to innocent people somewhere else:(
