This video (not mine) is from June 1996. It's like a time machine for me since I grew up there. I got my license in May of '96 and this would've been the summer before my sophomore year of high school. It's crazy to see how there's no traffic. I left Austin in '03 after undergrad but this brings me back.

Went to the new Pinballz. Pretty neat. Taking my 7 year old there for her birthday tomorrow. Check it out if you haven't already.
.

I went there last week as well!

This is, IMO, way better than the other one. For one, it actually has air conditioning. The one near burnet is always super crowded and hot. Secondly, this place serves alcohol! No more weird BYOB rules. Although, im sure some people like that, I always felt awkward going back and forth from our car to get a drink.

My biggest complaint though is that alot of the machines will eat your coins. Multiple times we had our coins straight robbed from us. Im sure I could get a refund, but it happened so many times that they would probably think I was lying.

My suggestion, get the prepaid cards and use those on machines that allow it. That way you dont get your credits jacked.

They have a third strike cabinet there! However, it was out of order when I was there :(

Wow. The Drag looks like it had much vitality then, and downtown like it had a simple pleasant life.

This popped up on my Twitter feed the other day. I was watching it and thinking about back when my wife and I moved to Austin in 2006. It actually wasn't much different than the video. Driving around downtown during business hours didn't require a death wish. You could actually find parking. Small businesses were more prevalent.

I remember reading about restrictions on development in capitol corridor views being lifted around the turn of the decade, though I can't find any articles detailing exactly what happened. What I did find references 11 of the 30 views being reevaluated. It was at about that time, 5 to 6 year ago, that I remember seeing the skyline grow.

Crazy, just crazy how many people live here now.

I wish I could, but I work now.. I only have Saturday off and I want to use that day to rest. Lol

Haha, fair enough.

I'm not available this weekend, but I am next weekend.

Cool, might try for next Friday maybe. Unless others are interested this weekend on such short notice.

What do y'all play? I'd probably be up for something.

Various stuff. Last time we did Contender, which was a hell of a lot of fun. Other than that we've done like Munchkin, Avalon, some others. Emerald Tavern has been the go-to location so far, but I'm hoping Vigilante pans out to be good. It'll be in a more central Austin location, so it'd be easier for people from around town to get to.

Who likes hitting the Greenbelt for hiking, swimming, or rock climbing?

I like to go swimming but hiking is part of the experience of going swimming at the Greenbelt.

I went back to Pinballz Lakecreek this weekend. I really like this place, regardless of the machines being a little broken sometimes.

It looks like they added a few more games, and even taped off alot of the coin slots on the machines that kept eating them. (It was mostly the machines that give you tickets for prizes which we avoid anyway).

This place is slowly surpassing my goto spot of emerald tavern. Mainly because theres always a place for us. Emerald gets so busy sometimes that there arent any seats. Hell, I bet if you wanted to, you could bring a board game to the arcade and play there. Its a really chill spot.

I played a shit ton of Galaga and this game called Wacko. Ended up getting the 5th highest score on Galaga. I never heard of wacko before but damn its fun. Its this weird shooting/matching game and its played with a trackball.

Also went and saw the new ninja turtles movie. Holy fuck that was bad.

I might could be down for a meet up Friday evening. This week's been crazy, but I just got Splendor for my birthday and I really want to break it in.

Also, sorry to hear that, Groovy :(((

I think there are copycats though, so we're not out of the woods yet.

This guy sounds crazy enough to have done most of them though.

Small playgrounds? There's a bunch of those. Be creative.

First street around Bouldin Creek Cafe is cute, I do dig the Mexican bakery around there. Probably not too unknown to you.

I'd suggest Ruta Maya HQ but T_T they cloosed their main location and some phone-y startup moved in. Mrrrgh. The airport location still serves good stuff though I think it would be highly inconvenient to date there.

The Kerbey Lane on Kerbey Ln is still cute and surprisingly not too crowded compared to the other franchises. Still feels homey, nice patio.

There's a vegan cafe that opened up by the synth store Switched On called Counter Culture which is very cute. Also, Switched On, if you or your date have any interest in synthy things that you can try out in the store. It's just super cool there.

Too many things! Might help to narrow stuff down if you could supply an idea of where and what.

I just found out my roommate is moving out... she's getting married, so I guess I'll allow it. :p

So, quick ad: if you're aware of anyone cool looking for a roommate feel free to send me a PM! I live in Museo Apartments (minutes from Domain and Arboretum). Bills are about $700 per month. I'm a 27 yr old male into exercise, drawing, music and video games.

Holy shit. You live down the street from me. I bike past your place on the weekends. Good luck on the search.

Nice. Going to see anyone cool?

I ended up seeing Anna Wise & Sonnymoon, but I went for this Austin trio named Keeper that was opening for them. I really love their music.

Today I'll be seeing my friends band playing, Good Day Paradise. But before that, I'll be with a friend going to a shooting range apparently. Lol

I mosied on down to Rattle Inn last night (I live downtown now so west is blocks from my flat) and watched a really great Led Zeppelin tribute band. Called Moby Dick, and they're just some old Austin dudes who really love making music. Would definitely recommend seeing them if you got the chance.

On another note, I think it's time for me to paddleboard or kayak soon. I've lived here forever and I still haven't done it.

Damn. Totally would've gone to that if I had known they were playing. Oh well.

Oh, crazy! Chances are you've seen me at some point, I'm constantly biking or running around there.

Search ongoing fwiw. One candidate seemed like a normal person and then randomly texted me at 2am about leaving bullets on her dad's desk to send him a message. :I

I was the youngest person there by probably two decades, hahaha.

I have no reason to not meet Gaffers on West 6th anymore, apart from if I'm working.

EDIT - Fuck it, if any of you jabronis are out Thursday night, I'll join you for a beer. I oughta be out around 9 so I'll have time to kick it.

aaaand speaking of 6th

What a shit show downtown has become these past several years.
Yeah, I don't think I've even driven through downtown in over a year. I doubt I will anytime soon either.

My bro is moving to town this week to a place on SoCo and I don't have the heart to tell him not to expect to see me often (unless he's willing to run the gauntlet to Cedar Park).

Speaking of news articles, here is a pretty good one (being serious, no sarcasm): http://www.dailycamera.com/guest-opinions/ci_30135795/andrew-baron-austin-did-development-wrong

While I think he's focusing on a few things that are nothings rather than somethings and the timeline is a little off, I think the sum echoes what a lot of people already knew and were saying. The chamber of commerce and media outlets have done a fantastic job at selling Austin as the best place in the world to live, but the rest of the city has completely and comically failed to accommodate growth. Bending over for contractors and wiping away old ordinances in what seems to be a competition in bad decision making.

Anyone involved in the indie game dev scene? I have always wanted to work in games with a small group of people but have just never happened to meet the right folks.

Yes. Juegos is fun but a bit cliquey. The meetups for Unity and mobile/web games are better for meeting folks that want to dev stuff, imo. Hit me up via pm or fb if you want. I can never have enough artist friends to jam on stuff.
