explain me devs and publishers logic of last years, cuz I don't get it. If we check latest steam statistics, only 10% of steam users even have GTX9xx of any kind, let alone GTX10xx

They keep making games for 10% of PC population? How does that make any sense whatsoever?

you can check yourself:
http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey

I understand it's only a survey and most people ignore those, but it actually seems more or less true for me, considering GPU prices these days.

This is a really poor way of reading into percentages.

Things to keep in mind - Steam has a shit ton of users. At this point, counting all the abandoned and spam accounts (which will be present here) you're looking at well over 200 million user accounts. For perspective, in 2014 when Ars did their Steam Guage, there were over 171 million users.

Steam then has a shit ton of users with practically 0 buying potential, playing only 1-10 games. That actually makes up the brunt of Steam. When you talk about 10% with GTX 9xx / 10xx cards - they do not only cater to them alone, they cater all the way down to the GTX6xx or even GTX 4xx series of cards. That will constitute well over 10% of all users. Considering just how many Steam accounts exist at this point and that spread of cards and spec in general - and the large amount of people happy to play with lower end systems with even these bigger titles - there is some sense in there, and as sales data shows, people indeed buy. No doubt part of the big factor for pubs/devs is the sizeable increase in return per sale, even with a cheaper price to consoles. Even with a lower sales total than other platforms, Steam / other stores are no slouch

A fantasy based on reality. Some peple said this looks better than Witcher 3.

Eh, it doesn't look that pretty compared to some of the other stuff out there, but as long as the story's good and it's fun to play, I can give that a pass. Just like with people, a plain-looking game can win you over if it's stylish and has personality.

Well, stating to that leak, the story is bland and the gameplay...well, I don't want to say garbage, but that combat system sucks.
Check the 50 minutes video, there are no spoilers (just skip the first two minutes to be sure), it doesn't look so funny to play to me.

Even the old Versus XIII trailer looks much better than this (I know, dev kit, but still an hardware very close to PS3)

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.

I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry.

Wait - It's Gamescom! Where are all the PC games at?!

but witcha 2 looks pretty good -___-

.. that's the joke - cataracts (magnitudes worse eyesight) + Witcher 2 (amazing looking game from years passed) still looks better than FFXV's IQ

I probably tried too hard with that one

i'll take my share of the blame, i'm very bad at jokes

also btw i understand where ppl are coming from about ff15, but is it worth it to be so focused on jaggies and stuff when it's not gonna be like that on pc (is it gonna be on pc?)

i personally have more issues with the game itself not looking very fun even if i kind of love the idea of boy band road trip

A new console feature is also the "suprise" effect, you walk around and a NPC could pop out of nothing, literally two feet above you!
Also happy birthday bigzgod.

My bet is that the "real" FFXV is being built for PS Neo, then later you get the Xbox Scorpio version that is DX12 driven (as with the prior tech demos that were done), and that is what is ported to PC

But yeah, the game itself is the real problem as much as we like to joke. I am yet to properly play an FF game. FFVII is a bit too dated to enjoy (plus I've had most of it spoiled at this point for being so far behind). Any recommendations where to start via Steam?

Well, according to the leak - and that one has been proven correct so far - they aren't even thinking of that at the moment

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1233181

From the steamgames either try FFIX or X. IX is overall better and closer the classics imho, but X is more modern.

Nah, FFXV was running only on high-spec PC and SE ported it only later on console (this is the reason why old videos look better than new ones, because they started releasing console footaage only recently), I think Tabata didn't even know about Neo, I remember he said so in an interview.

Eh, I played through the entire XIII triology and had fun. I'm pretty sure I'm going to like XV as well
when it reaches 10€ in a Steam sale

honestly i don't think ff7 is too dated. yeah character models are really bad and the translation is kind of rough but honestly i think the game aged pretty well. the characters and story and world and music and all that are still pretty good, probably less impressive than at the time but still the best one on steam.

if you're not against emulators i'd recommend tactics and 6 as games that also aged really well

AAA devs make games for "only 10 percent" of Steam population because that's the market for AAA games on PC. Don't forget that the third highest GPU is an intel integrated one, and so are 5th and 6th. These aren't people that are even in the ballpark for AAA games.

Half are on CPUs with 2 cores or less and nearly 40 percent have 4GB or RAM or less. 25 percent are on 768p monitors. Now, a lot of these are crossovers, but that means at bare minimum, at least 40 percent of the steam marketplace is off the table, period for an even remotely demanding game.

So suddenly that 10 percent of that 60 that are possibly viable is a lot more attractive. It is a 10 percent that spends money on AAA products.

It's probably the most dated game visually in the entire series.

Older, sprite-based games, upscale to arbitrary resolutions cleanly with sharp pixels. Games on PS2 and later all look solid via emulation or native PC ports.

The pre-rendered backgrounds of FF7, terrible models, and cgi can't be fixed by emulation or native PC ports. The latter Ps1 Final Fantasy titles don't quite suffer to the extent of FF7.

the atmosphere and design is still really good so idk, if it's a resolution thing, then like the music in ff7 is like midis or something but it's still iconic af

in the end you don't play these games for the resolution on the character model textures, if u want that you can play ff12 and bore urself to death at generic whatshisname on his pirate adventures

you play ff7 cos it's got a fun story with fun characters and an awesome universe and all of that is still there, even if the character models are hilariously bad

Probably for the same reason (most) people don't want to see a story that's meant to be taken seriously acted out by a bunch of finger puppets or Sanrio characters.
