Among the pre-made loadouts, the ones I like the best are: support, marksman, salvo, and onslaught.

Hopefully you have better luck with matchmaking. Did you see my earlier suggestion about leaving a lobby (before a match starts) if it looks overly unfair?

Oh, I didn't realize you could leave. I'll give it another shot later.

I'd like to share a guide I've been working on that is intended to help players who are new to TLOU achieve more success. It can be found here.

I can't say I've ever written something like this before so I don't know if it is useful or helpful in its current state. Criticism/feedback would be nice.

Okay, after further play I have to say that MP, at its core, is good.

However.

All of that gets dragged down into one big minus. Thanks to severe frustrations:

  • The matchmaking 'kicks' me out of matches very frequently
  • Glitching and lagging is ubiquitous: I've often spotted other players 'skating' across maps, shots not getting registered on targets, also getting 'stuck' in an infinite match where players 'do not respawn'
  • Often, if I join in the middle of a match I get sorted onto the 'struggling' team. I don't mind playing against odds if its on fair grounds.
  • The MP DLC renders most of the standard selection useless: In the back of my mind I was hoping you'd be handed at least a single loadout point with time to 'even the odds', through supply grinding. Unfortunately, you don't.
Look, I get it, ND saw an opportunity to spin more revenue, but this just makes the MP uneven. Essentially, its 'bragging rights' for players who aren't necessarily that skilled, but can overpower you with super weaponry. At this point, it seems like a 'necessity' to own the loadout DLC, other than just being optional.
  • Finally, the community is horrible. I don't think I've ever experienced as much teabagging, unnecessary humiliation and harassment through PM in this game, as I have in any other. Its quite demoralizing.
/rant

Good grief. At least I have acquired the needed MP trophies for the main list.

While I applaud the concept for 'downing', I think ND are giving people too much credit. Instead of a strategic and tactical device, its going to get exploited and cultivate means to taunt players for immoral reasons.

The matchmaking isn't particularly great, but your first two points suggest that you are having more troubles than expected. My first guess is that there is a problem with your connection. Are you wired or wireless? A buddy of mine experiences similar issues but only when wireless. Do you encounter lag or other issues when playing other games or is it just TLOU that gives you problems?

For your third point, I agree that late joining a team that is getting crushed can be quite annoying.

I don't quite understand what you are trying to say with the first half of your fourth point; loadout points can be unlocked via Supplies (up to a max of 13). I don't agree with the second half as I find the DLC weapons don't really outperform the standard weapons (and they are certainly not "super weaponry"). That said, I think the DLC stuff should have been free.

It's too bad the community hasn't been the best to you. I'm having trouble suggesting advice as your experience has been largely different than mine. If you can, try to avoid lobbies that are mostly filled with players that have a way higher level than you. Perhaps you could try switching from no parties to parties allowed (or vice versa) as you might have a better time.

I am a fan of the downed state as it encourages teamwork and strategy and discourages lone wolves. Without it, I feel the game wouldn't be as interesting. I rarely come across players that use it as a means to taunt others.

6 games in . 5 losses and 1 win. This game likes putting bad players on my team obviously.

edit: a win finally. Which is the better weapon tactical or frontier?

I'd say frontier. I once got like 18 downs or somethings doing pop n' shots with the frontier. It's two shot down regardless of distance, but tactical has close combat advantage. I guess it depends on your playstyle.

Both weapons are quite similar but I prefer the Tactical; the higher fire rate allows it to down quicker and the spread makes it easier to use, especially against moving targets.

The Frontier might be a better choice if you are a really good shot as it is cheaper in terms of loadout points and upgrade costs.

I tried out the tactical but just couldn't click with it. I actually found i was doing better at close range with the frontier.

My current load out for supply raid:

Revolver
Frontier
Jack of all trades
Reviver
El diablo

I lose respect for anyone that uses the tac shotgun, it's so OP it ain't even funny.

Honestly I don't see this. The only weapon I fear in this game is a hunting rifle in good hands and still I can't say it's over powered. Best weapon in the game though, together with the semi auto.

Hunting rifle is only good if you're a good shooter, but the tac shotgun has too much range, too much spread, the rate of fire is even faster than the semi auto. Way too much power for one weapon.

I'm still not convinced that the Tactical Shotgun downs significantly faster than other weapons. Even if it does, it has a lot of flaws that prevent it from being OP.

Well that's interesting. Are you familiar with the Frontier + Machete combo? It might be something to consider, although you would have to give up the El Diablo.

It is every game. Rubbish players on my team all the time, while it pairs high level players who have everything unlocked together

Again, same. I would've figured ND could provide proper matchmaking by now.

Some times, due to sheer luck, I end up on a team that knows the definition of teamwork.

I want to like the MP because overall it seems good, but various points are making it difficult.

How does that work?
Since the Frontier does 66 damage and the Machete does 40 damage, 1 hit from each is enough for a down. When in melee range of an enemy, you can shoot them once and then immediately swing the Machete to finish them off. Downing an enemy in this manner is much faster than shooting them twice. Armoured enemies can be dealt with in a similar manner but 2 Machete swings are needed.

As a bonus, the Machete also covers one of the Frontier's weaknesses; it can stop an enemy from hitting you with a nail board.

Edit: I've added a demonstration below:

Its like the MP holds a grudge against me.

Got twice into Bus Depot, things start well, shortly after I drop out. First time, I got kicked. Then, second time, I get disconnected from PSN.

Followed by various matches where I get grouped with unhelpful players. In one instance, a guy who was at 17 weeks, managed to plow through the team.

Also, played a match against a player whose PSN id was composed of 'WhytePride'.

This is hilarious.

EVERY game, crap players on my team. 1 or 2 games fair enough, but every game? While the other team play perfectly together. This shit is ridiculous

Why don't you try playing with some gaffers or at least some people you know?

We'll see. I enjoy the gameplay which is why i keep playing, really i dont care about winning or losing but i need to get the 12 week faction trophy and when you are on a shit team its impossible to get enough supplies/complete the weekly challenge 🙁

Badhumans set up a GAF community on PSN, that might help get in touch with the (few) of us who still play.

I will play for a bit in a few minutes, if you wanna add me my ID is Patau.

I'll hop on some this weekend to team up with y'all. Hate to see people leaving due to frustration with randoms(I get it).

Add me on PSN(please mention you're from GAF). PSN is the same as here.

I wish I could play this more, it's so good, but I have payed this so much, weeks worth of playtime, that I'm burned out.

Bring on TLoU2 already.

i cant believe this game still populated

Is the MP still active? I hate microtransactions. Do I need them to stand a chance? Haven't played the MP since 2013 (on PS3).

Just a word of advice, the PS3 TLOU MP community, as it stands now, is reaching a low level.

It seems as if a majority of players are petty and vengeful, besides attempting to t-bag you at any given opportunity..

I don't think I've recieved as much hatemail as I have in TLOU, and added so many players to my block list, compared to any other MP.

I play the PS3 MP regularly.

Try Overwatch. Most toxic community I've ever seen. TLOU have never been THAT bad. Maybe it changed over the months I haven't played it.

I'm not even taking into account the amount of players who exploit glitches, hacks (e.g. infinitely upgraded weapon) and bought DLC perks and weapons to get a sense of superiority.

Monetization on gameplay mechanics in a sense broke the core of the multiplayer, imo.

Sadly, I can't make a comparison to how it was at start

Okay, that's a different story that makes sense.

There was always t-bagging. Also at the start. But I've played for over 50 hours online and did not receive a single mail. That's a new low I just heard the other day. Sad.

I have a question:

can I play the multiplayer with my friends on my list or those this have to be done with randoms??

so here's a question about trophies for the DCLs (abandoned and reclaimed territoires).

is it easy to get them?

I am reading the www.playstationtrophies.com site for TLOU and it says you need to complete (regardless of whether you win or die) each level with at least 5 executions.

won't that happen naturally as I play on MP?

You can party up with friends but you'll also only be able to play against those in a party.

thanks!

Yeah, they made the trophies a lot easier to get on the PlayStation 4 version of the game and they should come naturally as you progress as a player and actually play the maps. No need to worry about that.

thanks for answering my posts! :)

I want to ask (to you or anyone that has an answer!)

can all the MP trophies (including the 4 in the main adventure) be obtained in 14 days??

see, I don't have PS+ and I don't want to buy one, I only want to play the multiplayer of this specific game to get the trophies, otherwise I have absolutely no use for PS+.

If I am understanding it how it is, Sony is giving me a 14 days trials to try +, I'd like to get the trophies in that timeframe and spare money.

It actually takes quite a long time to get through a complete Firefly or Hunter journey in MP for the two trophies.
Each journey lasts 12 weeks and each game represents a day.
