New PES 2017 hands-on impressions, gameplay

Been buying PES for last 2 years, glad that trend will continue again this year. The demo was incredible even without the commentary.

Demo is pretty great but still taking a cautious approach. Definitely has potential, but need to play more before I decide whether it's worth a buy. I've been stung by hype the last couple of years and I find it takes a good few hours of play to really see what the game is really about. Keepers are much better though which was a huge issue with the last game.

River Plate is also a partner team, and their stadium will be in the game (El Monumental). But they only got uniform and stadium in this partneship, there won't be legend players or chants from the supporters. (meh) (same as Borussia Dortmund, btw)

From the Argentinean trailer from last week we could also see La Bombonera (Boca Jrs) stadium.

They officially announced the Brazilian League today (few minutes ago), 20 licensed teams, and in the video several Brazilian stadiums are present:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5k7Cf6JfjjA

Arena Corinthians (World Cup opening stadium, Corinthians)
Morumbi (São Paulo)
Maracanã (RIo de Janeiro teams - Vasco, Flamengo, Fluminense)
The first stadium seems to be Mineirão (Atlético and Cruzeiro)
Beira Rio (Internacional)
Vila Belmiro (Santos)
Konami also expect to release more brazilian stadiums through DLC later.

They didn't announce any other partnership yet but probably Corinthians will also be a partner (there are chants in the demo when playing as home team).

In the end they are doing well with the licenses IMO (I am Brazilian so all these stadiums and teams are worth a lot for me, probably not for most of other players)

They refused to answer about Libertadores, though

edit. full list of stadiums from Konami's presentation in Argentina:

The gameplay is just too good.

Best PES since a looong time. I play the demo every day after work. Can't remember that I did this ever before.

Same. It's also kinda diminished other games for me as well. I bought and started enjoying F1 2016 but all I can think about it starting Master League.

Hope the Option Files are ready on launch day.

I'm sure there will be OF's with the basic covered (Prem, La Liga kits, etc) and possibly the Bundesliga if we're lucky. A fully packed one won't probably be available till October.

I keep coming back to the demo and it just makes me want to play the full game more - a week Thursday needs to hurry up.

Just played two matches on Super Star. France (me) against Germany. Tied the first 0-0 and won the second 1-0. Shocking that the leap in difficulty from Professional is apparently so minimal, but at least they didn't have the AI cheat to make it tougher. The games were very fun to play and I certainly focused more given how strong the AI was.

I don't have time for games, but I might just pick this up regardless. So far it's fantastic.

For PS4 users out there.

It's my understanding that the method for which they are charging for only expedites the process, but the files themselves should be free come launch.

I'm sticking with the inferior PC version because of mods, and the one person who I play football games with doesn't own a PS4. Best PES since PES 2013, and probably my favorite since PES 6. Master League is going to be a treat. Anyone else planning on utilizing PS4's Share Play, or Geforce's GameStream in order to play Master League online?

I pretty much stick to Master League on Superstar, and I haven't noticed much change in difficulty playing the demo. I was beating 4.5-5 star teams with that 3 star side (not convincingly, but a win is a win). I was kinda hoping for a difficulty beyond that this year. I remember one of the older games, there was an in game unlock for the highest difficulty (like, 6 stars?). That was good.

Also, paid option files? I get that people should be paid for their work, but I'd sooner play as Dorsetshire Pink than pay for them.

Do you play on manual? The only glaring weakness I see with the CPU (in terms of their difficulty) is that they're a bit too easy to dispossess with standing tackles. Other than that aspect, I'm finding it fairly challenging and I don't win very often on full manual, Top Player. A lot of draws.

Just use PESWorld - they won't be charging.

I'm also concerned groups like this charging money for what is essentially copyrighted content might attract unwanted legal attention and lead to reduced option file functionality in future, or even their removal altogether on non-PC platforms.

The whole process this year does seem vague tbh. Some are saying it's like the PS2 days if you pay them. Either way, it isn't a good look.

I agree I am fine with asking for donations but putting prices on this but I have been fearing for years that EA would eventually find a way to have them remove edit sharing but it hasn;t happened yet. I think Konami's PES sales don't cut too much into Fifa sales which is why they don't really care but we shall see going forward.

It's only not a good luck for the individual sites who are choosing to charge.

PES Universe (I think?) are charging for the USB with everything on, and the files properly organised to make it as easy as possible (£9.99 and £4.99 respectively, I believe). They're still releasing all the files, albeit unorganised, for free. All the other OF makers are still offering it for free.

To be honest I'm following about 3 or 4 different sites on Twitter and they all seem to be offering the same thing, with only PES Universe deciding to charge for some of their content. I think we'll have a number of really good updates come launch day.

That's who I was referring to. Only PES Universe for certain tiers whilst all of PES World's content will be free. Competition is good, though.

I quit football games when PES lost to Fifa, but frankly to me PES looks still the same as before, as in the characters don't look like they have real weight while running, more like they're being pulled by magnets. Hard to explain, I guess I still feel like they're on rails?

Are PES World generally THE place to get them?

I've lost track. Sure I used to get them from PES Fan in the old days.

They have been in recent years. PES Universe was plagiarizing their work not so long ago and it kicked up a fuss. You will still be able to get a large number of kits on PESFan, but PES World is the main place for the best kits now.

Must have played around 100 games by now, just some more thoughts about it.

- Crosses are OP as fuck.

- Skill moves are more responsive and easier to pull off.

- Attackers are infinitely better at checking their runs, they were thick as shit in '16.

- Defensively the CPU is really solid, offensively i'm less sure about. On the one hand if you're positioning yourself well you can dispossess it all day without even putting a tackle in, i just use X and Square to pressure most of the time and do fine. On the other hand being out of position will be exploited quickly and ruthlessly. I've seen some lovely, quick CPU moves, but i would like to see it just hold on to ball more at times.

- I've been having more enjoyable and varied games on Professional level. Normally i play Superstar or Top player but i find Pro feels a lot less regimented whilst still providing a fun challenge.

- Emre Can is a monster on this, he's having the armband.

Looking forward to seeing what tweaks they've made for release, who's doing the OT?

I've been playing (and itching to play) the demo every night, can't remember the last time I did that with a PES game, let alone a demo of one. :O

King has been back since Pro Evolution Soccer 2015.

King was back with 2015, totally agree.
Then King decided to take an holiday and we got a shitty 2016 (*)
King is coming back. Welcome back our King.

(*)
Graphics was great, gameplay was totally different from 2015.
Fast and furious, caothic, a total disaster. I'm talkin' ass an old school full manual user.

Any idea what the squads are going to be like?

It's not going to take them 3 months after release to put Paul Pogba into Man United is it? The way they dealt with transfers in 2016 was a joke.

Nice goal, but I don't understand some of the ball physics here. He strikes the ball with the inside of his boot yet if swerves outwards like he's hit it with the outside of his boot.

Is the PC version confirmed to be shite this year as well?

It's pathetic how they don't even respect the rules of football. Several times I caught offside when the pass came from behind the middle of the camp.

30 stadiums.. was that known before?

Not a bad variety. Wish there was a solution for an "old fashioned" 4 sided English grounds though. Still a fair few Championship teams who I'm annoyingly going to have to set to open ended South American grounds or bowls. This sort of stuff bothers me way more than it should.
