I was a gamer before the Wii and played lots of PS2, but it was my first real experience with Zelda and 3D Mario, and it made me a huge Nintendo fan from that point on. If the NX can somehow surpass the Wii's first party supposrt I'll be elated.
I was in a similar boat. Grew up with Sega and Sony consoles. Wii was my first Nintendo console and the Wii lineup especially early on made me a Nintendo fan. I came for Wii Sports. I stayed for Zelda and the like. Twilight Princess blew my goddamn mind.

Wii's first year also had Metroid Prime 3. Also I personally had a lot of fun with Mario Strikers Charged. Warioware was also the perfect party game and I had so much fun with it. I enjoyed Sonic and the Secret Rings.
Yep. I didn't play Strikers but I enjoyed those other games.

Not as good as the GC's first year but not horrible.

Ah GameCube. Another reason Wii blew my mind. Dat GC backwards compatability. Diving in to the GC library for the first time via the Wii was great. Wii was just the perfect introduction to Nintendo.

Mario
Zelda
Metroid
Wii Sports
Launch of the Virtual Console
Plus a half dozen or so other first-party games, a few of which were also multi-million sellers for Nintendo

All in the same year.

From a first-party software perspective, any given year in Nintendo's history has sucked compared to Wii's first year.

Well I'll admit that I forgot about Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Strikers, and both were excellent. Ok, Wii's first year was alright, I'll give it that, however, regarding your bolded statement:

The wii in 2010 had:
Super Mario Galaxy 2, Sin and Punishment 2, Tatsunoko VS Capcom, Endless Ocean, No More Heroes 2, Red Steel 2, Monster Hunter Tri (NA), Metroid Other M, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Goldeneye 007, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and Epic Mickey.
All exclusively. IMO, this is the best year to grace a Nintendo console outside maybe Gamecube's phenomenal March2002-2003 stretch.

This is the type of lineup the NX needs year one.

And yet by saying nothing Nintendo have me more excited for their next system Sony do for either their current or new system coming.

The first gen Wii was an excellent Nintendo gaming machine. GC BC and Virtual Console were very worthwhile features.

Do you guys think Nintendo will have this one big "marquee" games that shows off all the NX can do at the reveal event? I was watching a video and the person thought Retros game could be the big marquee NX title that shows off all the NX can do. This isn't counting BotW since it's not fully exclusive.

One NX thread has gone down, & it's only a matter of time before this one goes down, too.

To give my on-topic thoughts before this thread meets its maker, hopefully this alongside Emily Rogers' report of early NX production starting are signs of the NX being ahead of schedule (as she said on her blog).

I'd like to see Retro do a graphically intensive game. DKCTF as much as I liked it was pretty eh looking. I mean there's some good art direction but it looks like a polished up Wii game.

While Sony is over there chasing those sales records, Nintendo will secure those Nintendo fans who (according to stringent market research) are excited for Nintendo consoles.

OMG!!! IT'S HAPPENING!.

IT IS REALLY HAPPENING!!!!!!!

OMG, PLEASE GOD

nope

Idk what I would to see from Retro. I just wished Nintendo would make them bigger. I have a lot of different games in mind. Here's a list of what I'd like to see

1) WRPG- This would be great for Nintendos portfolio and I know it would be great. A big WRPG from Retro makes me salivate lol
2) Uncharted style of game- Now this would be HUGE for Nintendo to have in their portfolio. A high cinematic adventure type of game would do so good and pull in such a good size audience Nintendo doesn't have. I love Uncharted and would be happy if they did this.
3) Metroid Prime 4- Yeah we need a new 3D mainline Metroid lol
4) 3D DK- Something I've wanted Retro to try after playing DK64. Rare didn't do it right and I think Retro can pull off an open 3D DK game.
5) Bring back a classic- Well they are called "Retro" Studios and they did bring back Metroid and DKC so maybe they could bring back another old Nintendo IP like Startropics, Diddy Kong Racing or give us a new F-Zero

I can't help but feel like a WRPG or Uncharted clone would feel like a "poor man's version" coming from Retro unless Nintendo dropped a gigantic budget on them.

Now a 3d DK, that I can get on board with. Retro's got platforming skills.

Wii was tbh my moment when I felt like I fell out with Nintendo for a while, lol. While the motion controls were a very exciting and novel idea, I really didn't like how the Wiimote sacrificed traditional gaming altogether with an unconventional button scheme, and then forced every game in some way or another to make extensive usage of motion controls.

Granted, I know there was the Classic Controller, and I actually still do admire the concept of motion controls to some extent, but I don't like how much they forced it over an option for more traditional gameplay in that era.

If the NX rumors are true and its two wiimote-like devices but with all the buttons and ergonomics of a standard controller, then I'd be fine with that. Just as long as Nintendo learned to give options and not force a gimmick on their audience (something the Wii U really should've taught them).

They aren't reinventing the wheel. They are releasing a handheld gaming device that connects to your television. People are already accustomed to this functionality in other devices they own. Nintendo has stated over and over again that their biggest mistakes with the Wii U were the long period in between announcement and release, and their failure to convey the advantages of the concept. It follows logically that they would be looking to compress their release timetable and pursue concepts that aren't so difficult to explain, right?

So, a couple of months is all you need. They can have a full information blowout and then go on a long press tour leading into release. You can have materials and demo hardware sitting at retailers and the supply chain already in motion for the day of the announcement, if that's what they want. People need to stop overthinking this. They are selling games, not trying to educate the mass market about abstract artwork.

You put a lot of words in my mouth there. First of all, I was specifically talking about handling it the same way as a smartphone, with 1-2 weeks in advance of release. Second, I never mentioned explaining the hardware as a factor. Third, how many AAA games do you know of that were announced a month before release? Third, they need to ensure that as many people as possible get impressions of it before release, and a rushed tour might not be the most effective way of doing that. Fifth... Well, just look at what happened to the PS4 Slim and Pro. They've already possibly had a lot of things leak, and waiting to announce until mass production to show it off is like saying, "Hey, Foxconn! Tell everyone my secrets!"

I could go on, but I think it's easier to put it this way: I understand that January is a possibility. However, they said that they would do it this year, so missing that would likely mean that something delayed them; if that's the case, it's reasonable to assume that whatever caused that delay could affect the hardware's release since it would be either hardware-related, software-related, or production-related. Tightening up a planned marketing campaign to a third of the time or less isn't easy to do. Also, I'm fairly certain that what you're saying here is more to comfort yourself than to actually make a point based on how you pulled stuff out of your ass to justify it.

I seriously think that we should all start believing in a delay to March 2018 and a reveal in September 2017. It's been delayed because they need to reduce how powerful it is significantly to increase battery life and decrease the price. The final unit will be on-par with Vita, and will have a 360p screen.
They won't reveal until we've all lost hope. The sooner we lose hope, the sooner it'll be revealed.

So I've not checked in all day. What was that email about some Ubisoft guy named Andrew? Said something about not discussing NX, but drops word on a month prior direct announcement before the launch of NX?

Yet the PS4 Pro conference bored me to tears and made me realize it's a waste of money if you already have a PS4.

I'm more hyped for NX than whatever Sony is doing even though I don't know a single shit about the NX. Nintendo were able to create more hype with a single game at E3 than most of Sony's first part games.

Super Mario Run a fucking mobile game was able to strip away the hype that was the PS4 Pro conference.

Edit: Honestly Nintendo's PR has been on a roll without even doing much. I mean they even had fucking Mario represent Japan at the Olympics.

I can't wait until shareholders grill Nintendo wondering where the fuck the NX is this time next month. Its the only way we're gonna hear about it this year I think.

Retro going the Uncharted route would be a terrible idea. I like Uncharted but the gameplay is kinda of shit and I would never want that.

Remember when Nintendo shit-canned 32-bit CD-ROM in 1993, after months of silence?

Xa9WXGI.png

In favor of 64-bit Project Reality.

That couldn't happen internally at NoJ, right?
