I think today's announcement of sharing teams for rental is probably the point at which I'm now really, truly excited to actually PLAY this game. Like, the way this opens up our ability to experiment with new Pokemon and new strategies is just amazing. I can see myself just trying out different teams online and using Pokemon, moves, abilities, etc, I might not use ordinarily because I don't want to put in all the time raising them.

I agree. Rental teams, if done well, will be the most significant change to the series since the physical/special split. It's the one thing I think is a genuine game-changer for the franchise. This is very dependent on it being done well, though.

But gender was introduced in gen 2, where Ditto could be caught the route immediately preceding the daycare center, so it made absolutely no difference. Just a baffling decision.

It made a difference in gen 3 at least, which is why I kind of hope Ditto is bank exclusive this gen, it makes it a lot more challenging to complete the dex in the run up. I was considering doing a LTTP on completing the pokédex, since the challenge actually varied quite a bit, especially early on.

Looking forward to my-pokémon-ranch-but-actually-useful and internet missions. Rowlet continues to be the right choice. Slightly annoyed that Ash-Greninja's in, but to be honest it was inevitable. Ash better stay away though, what if losing is contagious?

I think everyone allows themselves one bone-deep rejection of a common design motif, and this one is mine: I hate pop idols.

I dislike virtually everything about them, their aesthetics among the offending, so Popplio becoming a Pop-Idolio is particularly disappointing for me. I liked it better as a circus seal.

Thankfully, I have been wooed by the other two midforms quite successfully. I look forward to using and encountering them, especially since I have not been really pleased with the starters since Generation IV.

I really love our fire tiger.
OMG, Pop-Idolio would be an amazing name for it

I hope we aren't locked to 6 premades, and we can scan various single Pokemon and build a team from that, and then save it.

I could easily see Smogon just outright having QR codes next to movesets to download the individual Pokemon if that's the case.

If they're going to allow rental teams, they should really just go all the way and allow individual rental Pokemon, which you can then assemble into a team of your choosing. But this is a great start. A community working together could trade Pokemon back and forth, registering them into desired teams.

Like if I wanted a rental team with Pokemon A, B, and C, but I only trained Pokemon C, I could look for someone with Pokemon A and B, and borrow them, register them as a team, and then give them back.

It'll also be no time at all before someone cracks the QR code required, and then we can gen Pokémon without it affecting people who don't want to play rental.

Actually, in this case, even if the actual game doesn't support plug n play QR codes, certainly someone will make a team builder that can just generate a team QR for you based on what you selected.

How exciting.

It would basically be Netbattle, except for real. The dream I've had since Gen III and the rise of simulators.

Might get me back into competitive Pokemon like back in the Gen III days.

Exactly, this is my point. It would be huge.

That said, I'm not going to get my hopes up just yet. We need to find out exactly how it works.

I'd be totally down for this.

YAWN

Ask me which Shakespeare novel is best
Wait, wait, wait.

We're getting Coro Coro around the 12th
New video reveals on the 14th
and the demo hitting the 18th?

Pokemon, thank you.

Credible leak points to around 85

Well, I obviously haven't bothered with this supposed leak at all. If true, that would be better than Gen 6, but still might feel underwhelming. I'll know when the game is actually out.

All the info outside of trailers will be unknown to me.

Source?

I think everyone needs to step back and take stock of what's credible and what's not. I get the feeling that even the Chinese leak, which is the only 100% credible one aside from the starter evo image (and afaik doesn't mention a total), has an incomplete (read: pre-release information packet containing only the Pokémon to be revealed pre-release) picture.

Then again I may be wrong. But I'm pretty sure the leak that says "only a few more than XY" is equal parts credible and proven false.

Temptation to name it Owlsworth increasing.

Even though it says it's a pop star Pokemon, it reads more like a synchronized swimmer and dancer.
That and the final form seems more fabulous mermaid, it's a performer of sorts and doesn't seem to deep in on the divisive idol stylings.
Didn't we already get the idol stuff out the way when they put Braixen in Pokken and dropped the witch angle for spunky idol magical girl?

I'm just triggered they didn't call him Fonzi Greninja, those sideburns are Henry Winkler AF
Would you say Ash Geninja jumped the Sharpedo?

Really don't like renting Pokemon to battle. I completely understand why others love it and want it. To me it's like using a cheat device. Just pick what you want, maxed stats, whatever moves, no work. This goes with that other topic I've seen floating on gaf about Pokemon being a time commitment. I like that because I spent time building a strong team I have an advantage over those who don't. Well, now I may as well rent em myself.

I'm assuming Ash Greninja is a hit with a younger crowd who thinks it's cool which is why everyone is so triggered rn

Mostly it's a so-so "cool" Pokémon who had a new form shoehorned onto it (and now into the game) because it's a marketing tool for kids.

I'm not mad they like it; I'm mad it's a very average Pokémon that's being plastered everywhere in a self-fueling marketing cycle. I'm just really tired of Greninja because it's so painfully "ow the edge," or "cool."

Also Chestnaught >>>>>>>>> Greninja so why didn't it get a Bond Form?

Well it only works in a few modes

Greninja is tainted to some because Ash lost. It's really silly

For me, I just really dislike Ash-Greninja being part of the game. I'd be okay with the core synchro bond deal. But having it be Ash-Greninja, named Ash-Greninja, taking on a form that resembles Ash while in the possession of an entirely different character just really bugs me.

Greninja wouldn't be such a popular Pokemon unless it was well designed (which it is). It's an above average design that's appealing to people.

I mean you could always just hack them before if that's what you're thinking. Having trained them yourself is still much more meaningful I think.

I think Greninja is still the best starter of that generation (although Ash has done his best to tarnish that). However, I agree that the rampant favouritism is hugely annoying. If one of a starter group gets something, the others also should.

And on that note, fuck the Megazards.

I absolutely love greninja. So much so that I broke my fire starter 4ever for the first time in X/Y. But the ash greninja...... I hate it. It doesn't make sense to me. I don't like megas but I dealt with em. I really don't like the sound of Z moves but we've yet to see if they're overpowered yet. This greninja abomination though .... Ewwww. Merging with humans is just weird Digimon territory. No sir, I don't like it.

Back in the day , my personal Pokemon community started game sharking and hacking to high heaven. I strongly opposed this. It got to the point where I sold all my games and didn't play Pokemon for years. I eventually got back into it, but for whatever reason using Pokemon that aren't my own completely cheapens the experience to me. It's weird I know, it's just a videogame , but making my own team. Naming them, making them unique and feeling like only I have this certain Pokemon is what makes the series so intriguing to me.

I always choose water starters. So I never have to worry about getting an ugly starter.

The Oshawott line is repulsive as all sin, but otherwise the Water starters have been pretty reliable. Shame about Popplio.

I like Oshawott's line though, especially the middle-form. And Popplio is perfect, what are you talking about?
