As much as I can't stand what nintendo has become... These shots are freaking gorgeous, god damn. Definitely want to see more of this Mario game.

This better have some sort of smart device functionality otherwise it will be just another extra device to bring with you. At least it has to be able to replace a common tablet.

So it's like the portable Wii U that many asked for? Cool.

I like the TV output but can't see this as being anything else other than a handheld (wasn't most time in video spent on portability) - bit like an android phone but with potentially better games such as late ports of 360 era titles and Nintendo staple.

Might pick one up, depends on price. Mini controllers look uncomfortable and cheap as hell so it better not be at a premium.

The animated logo treatment with sound fx is good stuff. The name is whatever. It's not super stupid at least.

Is this thing backward compatible with WiiU? I know nothing of Splatoon, so I don't know if that was a new game or the old one.

Let's talk price. Judging by all the hardware that's included and quality of the screen, I can't see this going for less than $350/$400. Maybe even more.
Lol it's a portable with a TV out charging dock. What justifies such a price?

Nintendo should sell the TV out and controller shell separately and hit $199.

I actually like the name. It's simple and evocative of the concept of the system. I like the standard controller portable aspect. Unsurprisingly though, it ultimately again looks likely to be an ancillary system to the PC/PS4/XB1 library. That won't stop me from getting it though. Graphically who knows, but nothing in that video looked beyond a Wii U, although I wonder what the target resolution will be for the base station mode.

+ It's a single hardware point of purchase for all Nintendo games going forward.
+ the mario game looks fab

- ... this means it's basically a handheld that can dock to your TV for TV play, with all the power constraints etc. implied. Sort of the end of an era for Nintendo, even if they've hardly take advantage of the 'home console' constraints in recent gens.
- Not sure about the controls.
- I'm not extremely confident of support. I think it'll be fairly popular as a consolidation of the handheld and home userbases, but it'll be interesting to see what that actually translates to in today's market, and what pub support that implies.

One slight other note: it's weird to have an announcement of Nintendo hardware where it's completely readable as to what it is. There's nothing 'totally new' here, a mix of existing ideas. Makes it readable and immediately understandable, but also not the wildcard kind of novelty that we're used to with Nintendo hardware.

Extremely hyped for it! Buuuut, I noticed one huge flaw. It seems to lack an hdmi connector on the tablet portion. They always meed to snap it into the base to go to a larger screen. I hope I'm wrong. Otherwise, I need to buy 3 of those bases. :(

The tablet itself and the standard controllers doesn't look very ergonomic.
Thankfully there's this:

I'm really hoping that will be the standard controller as the big pad thing looks as bad as the Wii U version, I also won't need the extra screen that's on the big controller so it'll be wasted.

Sold.

What would make it perfect is a Persona 5 announcement, I could drop my PS4 off at the nearest orphanage.

They can have all my money already.

Little disappointed in the d-pad, otherwise I really love the concept, the video really sells its ease of use and setup.

Just pop round your mate's house with your NX, hook it up with theirs (and others!) Boom, instant LAN party.

Of course a lot of info is still missing, like the specs, games, price, battery life, but this is a promising start. A proper controller (presumably with gyro in it too, if Splatoon is anything to go by). Evidence of games, including what are presumably Splatoon and MK8 ports, and a whiff of the new Mario.

If the fusing of Nintendo's console divisions can ensure a good supply of quality games, third party really shows up for it (and judging from the image of listed partners, this is also off to a good start) and Nintendo get their online and VC act together, this could knock it out of the park.

Please don't balls this up Nintendo

I just still have to ask myself, who is this for?

Nintendo fans, of which there are many.

Yes it's likely not going to be the Wii in levels of consumer interest, but it will do better than the Wii U.

What I really like is that there isn't really a "new way to play". It's pretty much as traditional console as we're going to get from Nintendo. It jusyt looks like they've unified their handheld and home console library so we'll get even more games.

the most exciting feature of the switch is that girls at the airport will let me sit beside them and talk to me

I think it's interesting that the commercial is stocked with twenty somethings and you don't really see any kids or families playing this thing throughout. It's like Nintendo finally realized that its primary market is not children and families, but rather nostalgic adults. It will be interesting to see how this does compared to the WiiU and like many, I will buy it for Nintendo first party titles.

I'm sold day one (as long as no more than $300 anyway).

I was hoping the hybrid panned out because:

1. I get all Nintendo games, and the Japanese exclusives they get on one platform. The separate Wii U and 3DS libraries underwhelmed me a bit, but together they were very solid.

2. The only way I'd use a portable these days is to play more of the games I'm playing at home when traveling. I sold my N3DS and Vita a while back as I just never finished games on them. I'd start stuff when traveling, but then just prefer gaming on the big screen at home since I have a mancave and don't have to share my gaming TV with anyone. This solves that problem.

Also glad to see that Splatoon and MK will be there, presumably day one. Makes it easier to switch from Wii U (though I'll probably keep ours as the fiance still uses Wii Fit U) and gives more to play after Zelda. I'm guessing Mario will be the holiday 2017 title.

Dumb name. Looks fugly (when docked).

But after being halfway there with Wii U and loving it, I'm on board with this portable/home console hybrid idea. All of Nintendo's development might on a single platform that I can play in a multitude of ways will be pretty great, even if some 3rd parties do the usual thing and abandon Nintendo's platform relatively soon after launch.

What will happen to the 3ds after this?

I'm worried that in trying to be both portable and home console, game makers will make the same mistake as with the Vita - the games won't be good portable experiences, and there are stronger options for playing games at home.

If more VC games are available I'll get this. I'd like compatibility with the Metroid Prime Collection on this thing, seeing as I am not getting a Wii or Wii U.

I enjoyed the video. I would NEVER take this thing on the go but I would gladly play it in the house.

I truly look forward to being excited for a Nintendo console. The last one I owned was a Gamecube.

Honestly, that looks fucking awesome, sold, day 1.

Looks very adult for a Nintendo product, it doesn't look a kids toy like the Gamecube, Wii and Wii U did. The name is good, the screen and controller look great too, this is probably the best thing Nintendo has made in a long time. Seriously impressed, well done Nintendo.

So... I'm impressed. It looks like a Vita 2 and that's exactly what I wanted from the thing.

If it gets a similar splattering of Japanese titles that Vita got, then I'm fully on board.

Hope it gets a few Wii U ports as well!

Thank god for actual Nintendo properties because the hardware looks ugly as Fu*k. The docking station looks like a laptop dock from the 1990's, the Primary controller looks like a Dreamcast monstrosity, and those tiny little controllers with the buttons sitting on top of the joypad look like a mess to use.

But then you look at the screen and see Mario Kart, Zelda and Mario and the distortion field kicks in....
