I'm tired of the formula.
My favourite by default due to the sheer amount of characters with varied playstyles even if I still missed out on a few wanted characters I really expected to make the cut this time.
Stages are a real mess though, it's like choosing between an overload of gimmicks and awkward layouts or a flat flavourless omega stage. In general things like stage hazards and Assist Trophies are more potent than ever to a rather silly degree.
Online is still handled kinda like arse, sure it's a big step up from Brawl but in general the options feel limiting. Assuming the rumoured Switch port happens that will almost certainly take the Wii U versions place but I do hope they refine the numerous rough edges of Smash 4 in general.
Though I'm probably setting myself up for a bit of disappointment on this front.
- Smash Tour sucks
- Too many FE characters
- Dark Pit, Lucina and Dr. Mario should be costumes like Alph
- No Offline Tourney
Other than that it's awesome
A step down from Brawl in literally every way but roster size and visuals.
I should note that my circle of friends actually play competitively, so my experience my different heavily from your own.
Yeah, I really want that hazard toggle in the Switch version.
All the characters look like toys in a bland Pixar aesthetic
Yeah I'm going to have to disagree because Brawl is a terrible game. Extremely slow character movement, random tripping, meta knight shenanigans, etc. From a competitive standpoint it is pretty much universally panned as the worst in the series but I can see how a casual player would feel differently.

For me, Smash 4 has best gameplay (no wave dashing) and presentation (except music, Brawl topped it there).
Left out hazard toggles to spite the competitive scene
I honestly feel Melee is actually pretty stiff. It's deep and satisfying but characters feel like bricks. And 4 is far more balanced than Melee.I still prefer Melee and I'm not super into the competitive scene. It just feels more fluid and responsive. I like the added depth.
I still loved Smash 4, but I felt like the game annoyed me more balance wise.
How does removing a movement option make the game better?
Smash Tour finishing with a character per stock mode inaccessible anywhere else in the game was maddening, "new" feature for Switch please!
I don't really grasp the game enough at a competitive level to really determine if I'm right with this next point but the defensive aspects of the game like rolling seem too potent at times.
A number of stages could be salvaged through this, Pyrosphere, Wily Castle, maybe a version of the DKCR stage where it's just the back area (and not zoomed out), NSMBU without Nabbit and sticking with the grass land and so on. Same for some 3DS stages.
Alas there'd still be too many walk off stages for my liking.
Smash 4 is sooo close to being truly fantastic, it just has a few shortcomings that seem odd to have occurred in the grand scheme of things.
Still the very best Smash game ever by a long shot.
People need to let Melee go already. Unless you're in for serious tournament play, which lets face it it's the vast minority, I fail to see how Melee could still be relevant after Smash 4. I play Smash for fun and this one already gives me as much as Melee did and then some 4 metric tons of additional shit too.

Honestly, wavedashing is annoying to perform, snaking in MKDS was even worse. I'd like to keep my hands/fingers.
Let's see, it:
-Boasts a massive 50+ character roster
-Has a thriving competitive scene
-Functional online play
-You can make Cloud fight Ryu who can also fight Pacman in the same game
-Fun as heck
-Phenomenal fanart
Smash 4 lived up to the hype and then some
