Gamespot: How Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare reminds us of Mass Effect

After watching this video the structure of the campaign reminds me of Splinter Cell Blacklist. Hype!

Moreso if you look at the title of the thread and think about it a bit and how missions are set up and chosen. The reason why its got a Mass Effect 1 vibe is absolutely clear.

just finished the campaign. well, didnt expect that.

its starts off like any other cod campaign, complete with typical "fuck yeah, its war baby!" attitude. then it evolves into something else. not just the gameplay...the story was far more surprising to me. the mass effect comparison is more valid than you might think.

Snaaaaap!

Dammit, need to stop buying shit and reading GAF

Since the campaign seems to be good and the zombie mode will probably be fun...I might buy the Legacy edition to get the campaign and the MWR for campaign and multiplayer...

$40 for new campaign + zombies
$40 for remastered beloved campaign + remastered beloved MP
=====================
Not a terrible value honestly

Youtube hatin' on CoD's swag. *shakes head* No hope there...

Long as folks remember this is a full-fledged pseudo sci-fi shooter, moreso than anything really CoD-like thus far, it should be at least decent. I do intend on picking this up primarily for the campaign's definite potential as something different.

...I might buy a Call of Duty this year. Who'd have thought.

this is not what i want from a cod campaign
So you just want the same cookie cutter Call of Duty single player experience for the rest of eternity? I for one look forward to the campaign and this is exactly what i want out of Call of Duty's campaign i want something that doesn't feel like the last 7 call of duty's.

Can you comment on any performance differences between PS4 and Xbox One?

I haven't bought a CoD since United Offensive, but Karak's comments are making me think that I should get this one

Karak, can you elaborate a bit more?? :)

In a good way?

Typical pre-release hype cycle. Will end up a 6h blockbuster shooter like always. But I guess it is similar to Mass Effect. 2+3 were 30h shooters :p

The video makes me pretty excited.

Though I kind of fell for the hype after Black Ops III last year, which I sincerely regret purchasing.

I'll wait for GAF impressions and purchase if they are good. MW Remastered is a big draw also, I'd like to play that.

I mean another posted in the Campaign info thread said their friend had 9 hours in the SP and still hasn't beaten it. Remember there is side missions and such.

Not to mention others who have played it indicated it's longer than usual.

There are some early gameplay walkthroughs up on YouTube now. I've watched a good bit of it, and I can say I think this is gonna easily be my favorite CoD campaign so far. It's awesome. Moment to moment gameplay is typically CoD-tight, level design looks solid, plenty of mission variety, great setpieces, but the world-building and story is really the stand out. It is very Mass Effect-like in how you use your ship as a hub, plenty of slow moments where Reyes talks to NPCs on the ship. Lots of optional lore to explore like on the computer in the captain's chambers, or watch news reports. There's also a lot of polish/touches here and there in how the UIs/HUDs work, and little things like how Reyes now contextually uses his left hand on screen during gameplay (he shields his face when a grenade goes off near you, gives hand signals to other troops when telling them to push forward, etc.).

I'm stoked as fuck to play this tonight.

Aliens!

I was gonna skip this but Gamespot has renewed my faith. I'm a sucker for good campaigns especially if they include space missions. BO3 really soured me on COD campaigns but it looks like IW are actually trying to make a great COD campaign.

Never bought a CoD game but the singleplayer looked very interesting this time based on trailers. I remember when I saw the E3 trailer, I didn't even realise it was a CoD game at first.

When does the embargo lift on this?

I can't afford BF1, Titanfall and this... Some of these games need to suck! I don't have this kind of money.

Goddamn, even guys in here are praising it? I couldn't give a shit about the MP, or MWR. If the campaign is good I'll buy it on Cdkeys.

Karak.....give me a hint!

I think the Infinite Warfare campaign will be good. Maybe similar to Titanfall 2 but not as great as Titanfall 2, but still good.

Then again, I thought the Modern Warfare 3 and Ghosts campaigns were really good and a lot of people seem to disagree.

I may actually get this CoD...last one I bought was Ghosts and that was a huge disappointment.

I was pretty disappointed with the Titanfall 2 singleplayer but it looks like I will enjoy this one a bit more.

why was tf2's single player disappointing?

why was tf2's single player disappointing?

- boring gameplay until the last two missions
- gun designs are bland and boring
- little to no mission variety
- terrible art design and seriously dated graphics (character models look a gen or 2 behind)
- boss fights were uninspired

Really expected more from the campaign given the near unanimous praise.
