Hillary is done, right? They didn't want her in 2008, and not in 2016. Surely she has to give up on the dream...?

If the Dems nominate her again ever, they deserve to inevitably lose that election. The American people have spoken, Hillary will never be president. It makes me really fucking sad to say that because, even though I don't like her, I wanted her to win, and I actually feel really bad for her, but it's the cold hard truth.

But still, if the majority of ordinary voters vote for - let's use this election as an example - Clinton, but the majority of the electoral college votes go to Trump, Trump is seen as the winner in the state? This just seems a bit weird to me.

No. Winner of majority of votes in a state = winner of electoral college votes for that state. Winner of the majority of EC votes = president of the United States.

Does this mean that majority of white women voted trump?

Yes.

Is this the biggest GAF thread ever?

I've never seen a 500 page thread here before.

Lets see if we can make it to a 1000.

What the he'll is with people downplaying the racist element of this election?

We're already at the "racist to call out racism" stage?

Things are even more fucked than I thought.

Those people cheering at his rallies every time he talks about building a wall aren't doing it out of sympathy.

The surge in popularity he got every time he kicked a different minority are obviously not coincidences.

The fact is that a guy who started his rise to fame talking like he belonged in a klan charter, not even mentioning his past opinions and stances,, was voted as the most suitable person to lead the country.

If you can't understand why that absolutely horrified people worldwide, let alone in America, then it's already all over.

Democracy fails when the population is uneducated and bigoted.

It doesn't. But it is in danger when a group of people, who's worldview consists of "they're just too stupid for our glorious policies!", thinks it's above the rest and has the godgiven right to rule over others by nature and based on what they feel to be moral superiority. As others have said, when you constantly generalize 65% of the population with constant "ugh fuck white people" or "fucking white males again!" and use tactics such as shaming people who deviate 0,1mm from your own opinion into oblivion, those people are not going to vote for you / your party. But you need them to, at least enough of them to win.

I honestly wonder what Obama is thinking right now. Imagine after all the years of bullshit over his birth certificate, roasting him in 2011 and effectively encouraging him to run...and then he actually wins. And he has to brief him on presidential matters.

Goddamn that must feel shitty.

Just what I was thinking, next 20th January he is going to have one of the worst days of his life.

Anyone trying to blame Hillary for losing is being fucking stupid. Sexist and racist America is the reason she lost.

Also I'm so angry at all the condescending Hillary supporters where any time someone was worried about Trump winning got shit on as being paranoid. You didn't take it seriously enough and now worst case has happened.

So disgusted and disappointed with the US.

She just lost to what should've been the easiest opponent in the entire goddamned universe,

Well she was at a Jay Z concert when she should have been after people who actually do things for their communities. The real life people like Luke Cage in actual life.

I didn't realize Lincoln was still serving.

Oh God, that feeling when you realize Trump is going to be added to a list that contains John Adams, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and FDR.

There were plenty of stinkers in the 19th century, though

This was very much a 19th century feeling election

Obama is probably talking to Clinton and thinking what he can accomplish to salvage his legacy in two months before the Republic goes full Bananas

He can't do anything about his legacy besides having a great post presidency career like Carter. He's a lame duck and his party is crushed. Many of his key achievements are getting rolled back.

This clears things up, thanks. I thought it was the way I described it, but thanks for educating me!

US Brexit happened. I am beyond shocked at this point. I don't want to be a part of this society anymore. Maybe more than anything, this is a huge demonstration of how we have failed to educate our people. Fact, reason, and decency have not prevailed.

I'm going to go on a long rant here and I'm sure in this fast moving thread no one will read it, but it's going to be at least a little cathartic. I'm also going to put this forum on blast a bit.

You know, I'm just going to take a moment to say that some of us tried to warn so many of you. The whole "social justice warrior" online movement or whatever you want to call it that this forum in particular has come to be dominated by. Shame and spite do not do anything to help one's cause.

Unrepentantly calling all white people racists and bigots and sexists and misogynists is what brought this on. I've joked on here about voting for and supporting Trump, but god knows I never actually did. But I've always been able to at least sympathize with those "deplorables" for the blatant hypocrisy on the left when it comes to all of those social issues that dominate social media these days.

too many people on the left, and on GAF especially, remind me of the conservatives in the years following 9/11 under Bush. Everything was viewed through a polarizing, black and white filter. You are either with us or with the terrorists. You are either a ____ist or you're not.

You can't demonize and shame people and expect they'll agree with you. They'll only dig their heels in further, especially if they feel attacked.

This is some real truth here, folks:
All the people who are very likely or even (ugh) probably going to put Donald fucking Trump in the White House tonight are not voting because they hate women or blacks or mexicans or whoever else. I'm also not saying that the hatred isn't a factor, because it's been shown repeatedly that at least on some level it's an animating force for all of this... but people are complex animals but you've turned them into cartoon villains and stereotypes without every trying to understand them or why they actually feel the way they do.

Polarization is bad. The right has been polarized for a long time, but now the left is too, and it's biting them back hard tonight. If Trump wins and has the House and Senate behind him, this is literally the end of America as we know it and the beginning of a new BRIC nation world alignment. That's really fucking bad.

This is like brexit all over again, looking back it was clearly that that was a premonition. History is repeating...just a few months later.

Yeah, racism and bigotrism was one of the key reasons Trump won. Just like in Brexit.

Don't make a fool of yourself like some people did in that thread.

I disagree about the US being fundamentally a racist country. Sure there are pockets of the country that are, but the same holds true for any country.

Now, the media got this all wrong, completely off base. Most publications had Hillary winning by a landslide. If the data being presented to the public were more akin to 538 then maybe people would be more galvanized to vote. I, like many other folks, thought this election was in the bag. Boy were we wrong.

America exists because of methodically conducted racism. It may feel bad, but it's true.

Yup. The thread title is ridiculous. Hate trumps love? Don't be fooled. Theres plenty of hate on both sides.

Angelus meant that Trump and his supporters are still bigoted at worst and really dumb at best. That doesn't change because they won. So many people are chastising others for calling Trump people what they are but the funny thing is none of them are actually denying that Trump supporters are uneducated.

And honestly "both sides" just lets people know you've given up on critical thought
