From what I read earlier, it doesn't actually change IVs, it just treats a stat (or stats if you use that cap that raises all of your stats) as if it was 31.
Truthfully this isn't a complete negative when it comes to hidden powers.

That'sis actually a good thing competitively lol.

Yes. This has been a feature since gen 2 I think?I may have missed this, but can you refight trainers?
So I've taken it upon myself to do some testing now with EV related stuff, yay!
First off, let's break down Poke Pelago:
---------- Isle Evelup ----------
This is the name of the island in the Poke Pelago that lets you train EVs. It also allows you to gain experience, but that's not the point of this and I didn't test it. First I'll explain how it works.
At level 1, you can have one "group" train. A group is 1-6 Pokemon from your boxes. You place some Pokemon into the group then select a drink/training regimen. The options are exp and the six stats. Then you select an amount of "play sessions" which each take 30 minutes. By using Poke Beans, you can speed things up. Things move at double speed while Poke Beans are in effect, meaning while using Poke Beans you can shorten sessions to 15 minutes each.
At level 2 you unlock a second group, at level 3 you'll unlock a third group. This means that at level 3, you can have three different types of training sessions going on at once with up to 6 Pokemon in each. A Pokemon can only be in one group, so you can't train one in three different ways at the same time.
"But what about the EV rate?" you ask? Well, at level 1 you'll receive 1 EV in the stat per "play session" so every 15/30 minutes you'll earn 1 EV. At level 2 this changes to 2 EVs and, while I haven't checked this because I don't have the beans to reach level 3 yet, I'm assuming level 3 will be 3 EVs.
With the doubled speed provided by using poke beans, that means you'd get 4, 8 or 12 EVs per hour depending on the level of your island. Without the speed boost, you'll get 2, 4 or 6 per hour. So... yeah...
Moving on!
---------- Festival Plaza ----------
So I checked two types of stalls here. One was a 1* Bouncy House, the other was a 1* Food Stall that serves EV related meals. You can only use a given option from these stalls once per day. So, I could train both Sp Def and Def in the bouncy house today, but only once each.
The Bouncy House cost me 5 FC to do a session and earned 4 EVs in the stat. The food stall cost me 20 FC per meal for 10 EVs per stat. If we assume these numbers double for a 2* stall, then the bouncy house would be 8 EVs and the food stall would be 20 EVs. And again possibly 12 and 30 at 3*? This is speculation as I can't test what I don't have.
So that's that...
---------- EV Berries ----------
These still reduce EVs by 10 each.
---------- Vitamins ----------
These still increase EVs by 10 each, up to a max of 100 in the stat.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So what about the example quoted above?
Vitamins used to get to 100 in each HP and Attack, and 90 in Speed. This'll total 290k as they're 10k a pop. Alternatively, it'll cost 58 BP, as they're 2 BP each.
You could get 64 HP via the plaza, but it would likely require multiple stalls and would be a one-off for the day.
Then that 152 Attack via Isle Evelup is gonna take 152 play sessions at level 1,76 sessions at level 2 or 51 sessions at level 3 (under the assumption that level 3 is 3 EVs per "session"). That's gonna take 38 or 76 hours at level 1, 19 or38 hours at level 2, and 12.75 or 25.5 hours at level 3.
It's good for comp when you just want to get your 31IVs but at the same time, you still have to breed for nature and IV spread (at least when it comes to HP types, reducing recoil damage) as opposed to just catching a random with Synchronizer and buffing/nerfing its stats. It doesn't really make sense to introduce that as a "temporary" thing Inb4statsresetwhenyoutransfertoGenVIII, because you just know that might be a possibility.
True, HP Fire LOVES this since you can now use it with 31 Speed and Sp. Atk, but you're still going to have to breed for a particular HP type (which can be very annoying considering RNG) rather than change it on the fly like you could have if you changed IVs. In fact, I think that should be overhauled because it's not accessible at all.
Lycanroc and mimikyu are uu at the very least. So who looks viable atm besides
Toxapex
Salazzle
Pheromosa
maybe Primarina

Midnight form has some potential but I don't know what they was thinking making its special move fucking counter.Midday form only? Also feels like lower tiers and doubles will be a lot of fun

They will likely be tutor moves in the next games we get.Yeah I REALLY hate that. I wish it got the elemental punches atleast.
A lot of people were upset about the new Pokemon competitvely(which isn't a new thing), but this gen will probably bring in more new viable Pokemon than 6th gen did, though Megas make that discussion kinda interesting.
I'd rather have the ability to just slap an everstone on a Pokemon and breed it until I get the HP I want before boosting rather than keeping the limitations you mentioned or the old system tbqh.
Looking to run a scizor for the main game. Any ideas where we get metal coats in the game?

Gamefreak is so bad at game design and technically inept, too. At this point I wouldn't even be surprised if an eventual switch Pokemon version suffers from major lag issues while delivering underwhelming visuals.
Where this franchise could be if handled by a competent developer I dare not even dream of.
I mean how come Pokemon Reborn (an RPG maker based PC fangame) is so damn vastly superior is just about every regard? The only thing worse in that is the lack of many attack animations. Anyone interested in the franchise that hasn't given this game a try yet, I highly recommend doing so. (here's a link)
That's already like 12 Pokemon right there lol and I see Magearna being pretty good as well. There will be also be quite a few "lesser" Pokmeon that are viable in standard play.More? Maybe this is me lacking imagination, but I don't really see anything other than Toxapex, Tapus, and Ultra Beasts thriving in comp.
I wouldn't really say it's harder. Instead of summoning a horde, we'll be summoning rescue pokemon and taking them out in one long encounter until the stat is complete. So post game is battle tree which is basically battle maison with nostalgia characters, national dex stuff, some extra story stuff and catching legendaries. Pretty similar to X and Y i'm guessing? Welp, hopefully main game is good
No hordes so ev training is harder. Don't know much about IVs but not interested in the tedium that is breeding

I'm not sure if they all do it, but that's how it seems to work.So do all pokemon call for help when low on Hp now? And will we really just get into one battle and grind through how ever many pokemon it takes?
More Pokemon will be viable than that. A Pokemon doesn't even need to be OU to be viable in standard. It seems that for Singles OU the only viables are the UBs or Tapus.
I wish this gen could have added more variety.

Besides the talks about the dialogue, I can't agree that Reborn is better designed in basically any way whatsoever. Maybe this is just for "pro Pokemon Players" or what not, but for me, who plays casually (but always wants to collect as many as I can) the game drove me off from playing it.
Shoving 50 Pokemon in your face by the first gym when you can barely buy 10 Pokeballs (if you still want to buy some potions) is not approachable design, and it doesn't even make things harder if someone just wants to beat the game, as they can buy less Pokeballs and focus on potions, it makes it harder for someone who wants to do the collecting aspect of the game and take things more slowly.
I end up knowing there's 8 Pokemon I wanna get but I can't, because I'll need to get money for the Potions and to make up the money that I wasted when someone 'stole' a Pokemon I bought, and I need those potions because if I pick a 'wrong' starter, a guy in the first house after the starting area will have a level 10 Goldeen with a Horn Attack it basically always uses, which takes half of my Totodile's HP at level 13. I also can't level up my Totodile more, because I need to watch out for that level 20 cap. By the way, can't buy too many potions, otherwise I won't have enough to pay for the guy to get out of my way so I can get that Espurr.
You get too many things thrown into your face at once and so the game (for me) basically felt like it was completely ignoring a player that wants to collect things. I think I played for like a hour and the most fun I had was in the standard Pokemon battles against wild Pokemon in the first tall grass. Maybe it gets better down the road, but it's going to take some time before I try to play it again. That's not to say GameFreak does things perfectly (I think ORAS is the perfect example of going too far in the other direction with the first gym having, what, 5 Geodude), but Reborn actively put me off as a player.

Pretty much all non-Island Search Pokemon do it. With the Adrenaline Orb and False Swipe it's also pretty consistent.I'm not sure if they all do it, but that's how it seems to work.

Double this. I really want to stress that "OU" literally just measures usage, and not quality.
Tangrowth was UU for a long ass time and one of the best Pokemon in gen VI "OU" (though its OU now, RIP)
Jesus Christ
What a huge step back
Obviously not, I'm sure when doing GAF tourneys everything will be fine and fun, but Smogon OU is a different story.
At least stall is nerfed. Now we can focus more on good trade offs and pivoting. Hyper Offensive in Singles still seems to be rampant but I don't suppose we can ever fix that due to the competitive doubles format, especially now that a lot of Megas got buffed. (Mega Diancie is Uber-tier now)
While this thread is delving into discussion about the negatives, these games seem to have a lot of positives so I wouldn't let that stop you from playing.Reading all this just makes me want to skip this generation altogether. I mean, it's probably going to be a short gen anyway.
The hype for the games at the beginning made it look so promising too. :/
This should be fairly simple then and makes for a suitable Horde replacement IMO.Pretty much all non-Island Search Pokemon do it. With the Adrenaline Orb and False Swipe it's also pretty consistent.
Now if we can just find where Chansey is to confirm if that too can be chained this way... EDIT: Like we know its area but not specifically how to get it to appear
it boosts the highest stat they have
The amount of viable gen VII Pokemon for singles OU (not counting UBs) imo is:
Stall was actually buffed :x
Toxapex is going to be a big deal
How does beast boost (UB ability) work? Does it just boost the higher attacking stat so SpA for Nihilego/Xurkitree?

Man I just play the games for the story and to make a team of Pokèmon I like. But all these numbers these statistics...I'm just baffled by all of it. I'll just stick to my supposedly casual style of playing. I'll enjoy it more that way.
