Is "reviewers are not harsher" an attempt to salvage hope that FF15 will be forgiven for most of its faults and get a higher score?

Now have a look.

You might also want to note that not a single game in 2016 exceeded 95 avg score.

Bro. Is this an attempt to salvage hope that there were genuinely any great games to release this year?

The reviews aren't harsher, the games are shittier.

I was gonna say, when was the last FF game that bad a great villain? (Haven't played the online games)

Must be FF9, imo.

The combination of Seymour/Sin was decent in X, Yu Yevon was an awful final boss but not really a villain. Vayne was trash

Yea I've shared it with a few who I know have been tracking it this whole time, not gonna put it out on the thread though. Store is gonna get overwhelmed otherwise.

Hey, can you PM me the store? I'm only 30 minutes outside of Manhattan by bus, and I've been playing Judgement Disc for 18+ hours to pass the time. I'm fiendin for the fantasy.

See I didn't care for Seymour, he had great boss battles but he's not all the interesting as a charterer or is fun to watch/hate. His weird design doesn't help.

FF12 was my first FF game and I couldn't remembered the main villain, lol.

I liked Vayne up until he turned into an omnicidal god wannabe a la Sephiroth just for the sake of having a final boss. That was lame, he had so much potential as a villain.

So I played the game for around 12h. Reached Level 22 for my characters.

Dislikes:
- The open world is terrible. Huge and mostly barren. Its boring as hell.
I was not bored by episode Duscae/Judgment Disc, so I should be fine

- Side quests are 90% boring fetch quests (literally go to way point find a gold colored small orb and return it. Rinse and repeat) and 10% actual good quests. Also, you have to return said items to quest givers :( I though JRPGs fixed that shit already like Xenoblade Chronicles X and SMT4A. (Nitpick) unfortunate

- Traveling by Car or even Chocobo is pretty boring and time consuming. I mostly play Pokemon whenever I travel by car since it can take more than 5 minutes sometimes.I like it, I can just check my phone, play something else or just sit back and listen to classic FF tracks, it's a nice downtime. Besides, you can use quicktravel too

- Magic is shit. I like the effect and its actual use but the fact that I have to go into a menu everytime to "craft" magic gets annoying. I'm not a magic guy, but I'm sure people who enjoy crafting will have fun with this

- I will never understand them assigning X as the jump button AND the action button. Whenever I try to open a door or pick up an item I end up jumping. Its a nitpick but pretty annoying after 10h of gameplay lol. I thinl scheme B solves this?

- You can't fast forwarded time. If you go to an inn or camp you always wake up in the morning (from what I can tell since the Time menu is confusing as fuck). So you'll have to wait for mob hunts that are required to do in the night. this is annoying, when there's lack of stuff to do or you just want to do that thing in particular, still, it'd be nice to have a time skip option.

- THE FUCKING DEFAULT SPEED at Caves and dungeons is slow as hell!!!! You have to actually always press the sprint to run and wait between stamina refreshes. Ugh. You can refresh your stamina automatically by stop holding the sprint button right before it depletion, or can't you do that in dungeons?

Sounds good to me.

I wouldn't say the tracking info is quite accurate for USPS. I got my copy in the mail yesterday and I was tracking the package while I was at work and it still said it was in VA. I get home and there it was, already delivered. Some times they just don't get a scan on the label, but as long as it's saying In Transit, it's at least departed. Hell, even the tracking info said my package was not supposed to arrive until today.

Was completely beat last night after work, even fell asleep while waiting for the patch to install, but I got about 2 hours in before calling it a night. I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far... To be honest, this game left my radar after the delay to the point where I honestly doubted I would get it considering the release window. But being able to snag it the week of Thanksgiving made it easy as I now have a nice long weekend to sink into it. Hell, I woke up at 6:00am just to get a nice long session in before work. I'm just enjoying the overall interaction between the crew and the way they set it up at the start, it just gave me that sense of adventure you get from most openings in a FF game. I guess staying in the dark about this game is paying off, because I heard a certain cover of song at the opening that just caught me way off guard in such an awesome way. It was odd to hear a song like that in the game, but the way they used it just really set the tone for these group of guys and what's to come, it just worked (on me at least).

Gameplay wise the combat is a ton of fun. Still trying to get a handle on it, because these new enemies with long range weapons are really starting to fuck me up. Going to have to watch some videos, because while I can take them down fine, I know there must be a more efficient way to go about their encounters. Also, I'm just having a blast driving the car around the world completing bounty quests and upgrading my weapons. Some of the most fun I've had is going out and scavenging for materials and magic.

With the limited 5 hours I put into the game I can already say my first impression is wayyy more positive than I could've predicted. It's still really early on, but at least I'm looking forward to jumping right back into the game when I get home tonight. Which is something I could not say for FFXIII sadly.

This weekend is gonna be good.

This is awesome, getting the impressions of someone completely in the dark about it.

Happy to know that what they were going for with the low key opening worked for you.

Wait what?

They said, they got more calls than usual but usually some folks never pickup their copies if there's any left he'll get back to me. He wrote down my name and number and system of choice.. if I understood correctly he also said a second shipment will make tonight? Or on a sat?.. I was too excited to understand lmao if anything I'll get a call around 6 he said

Have there been any impressions from non-fans of the series? Basically someone who hasn't been waiting 10 years for this game and are jumping into it taking everything at face value?

Other than Conan

I still believe that Vayne would've been a lot more interesting as a party member who joins in a similar was as Cait Sith and that the Occuria had been the true villains of the game. I Also wish that there had been a party member from Rozarria as well; I didn't like how most of the party was either from Dalmasca or tied to it in someway. It made the worldview limiting in my opinion.

I don't put that much stock in specific review scores (vs. general ranges), but most extended previews from the press seemed to be pretty positive about a lot of the aspects of the game that user impressions are mixed on, so I still think it will review pretty well. Maybe not 90s, but well.

I've tried so hard to remain positive and hopeful for the game but I guess it's really over now.

Just look at the game for what it is, if you can't shake off the feeling of "what could've been" you just might feel miserable the entire time.

I am so pissed. I called yesterday to get my name on a list, sat on the phone for 20 minutes and apparently my name wasnt written down. Now im on this second list. Fuck that

I have nothing to say for those who are disappointed even after the positive impressions. Of course, not everything would be praised. That said, Having played the game, I am certain it will get good scores. Hopefully that will change their minds :)

You will lose nothing for waiting a few more days. Reviews drop at Monday and you can still preorder by then.

For gamestop I asked yesterday if I could still preorder and they said it's too close to the release date to do it.

I thought that was stupid af for them. Wanted the deluxe edition but fuck it ill just grab a day one edition early tomorrow.

Apparently. I just sent them a message on FB complaining bc thats so unfair if I called yesterday lol.

And I live in north NJ so its even more annoying to come out at like 7pm tonight for it as well. Ugh

Thankfully today was a half day at work and I rushed straight home to find this baby in the mailbox.

All praise to our savior eBay disc guy!

It feels surreal to be holding this disc in my hand. I'll get as much playtime in today as I can and give some of my own impressions.

Dude move on. The Last Guardian is in December, a million other Japanese games in January and February. It's a fucking videogame, not a relationship.

I've been following FFXV threads for a lont time. I swear if any videogame can capture half the internal struggle you've been through it's gonna be a masterpiece of story telling.

I don't think I can, so that's it for me. Ignoring Versus, it's not even what I thought XV alone would be.
I had a year or two to let it go, I've also been following it since 06 so I'm already for whatever it might be. *hugs psy

It is what it is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, they took my name yesterday. Just called and they don't have it... now on tonight's list maybe.

Now we wait

Your wrist should be twice as thick for the size of your hand someone call a goddamn doctor!

That's how I've been looking at it. You're bound to be disappointed if you try to think of what it could've been considering the development hell this game went through.

The impressions in here have me super excited still, even though the comments about the story being weak and the smaller map make me a little sad. The fact that the characters and their bond are apparently well fleshed out makes up for that to me though. I really like a strong focus on characters and their relationships so I'm excited to experience it. The dungeons also sound great. If this game is anything like XII, which it kind've sounds like to me, then it'll probably be my game of the year. FFXII is the best FF, in my opinion.

I'm so jealous of people who have copies though; it'd be so nice to binge this over the long weekend ...

eBay disc guy is real suspicious. If I open my package on Tuesday and find an empty disc-case I'm going to know who to blame >:-(

This is how I'm setting my expectations now : FF XII w/ better monsters and much better dungeons and catchier music. Which, all told, still seems pretty sweet!

I don't really get that impression. But regardless if you want a game then buy it and form your own opinion. A game or movie has to get really awful reviews before I make an assumption on its quality without experiencing it myself. And even then if someone told me it was good I couldn't argue with them.

To write it off due to a few bad, incomplete impressions in a GAF thread seems silly to me.

already available? wow -when is pro patch?

Blackthorn

"hello?" "this is vagina"
So....is it really worth watching the movie then? I hear it's awful
Watch a summary or read the Wiki.

Brotherhood is great though, and free, so watch that instead. It'll set you up with some intimate background on the party members and leave you liking them all more. Kingsglaive will give you some lore bullet points and make you like everyone less.

I would like to know:

Is the story really bad as in poorly written or is it rather badly paced ?

The impressions get me to believe the latter as in: there is not much happening in the beginning (save for character building) but it gets more intense and captivating towards the end, with the finale being very well done.

I can live with that quite well tbh.

I am obsessively checking my tracking. The woman in the receiving room in my building goes it lunch from 12-2. If it comes after 12 I can get it from my doorman but if it comes before I won't be able to get it until 2 at the earliest. I also wish you could download patches before you get the game. I don't feel like waiting for a 7gb file to download.

Doing the same right now, actually.

I think I'll be using eBay guy for now on with early games. He's very reliable and cares about his customers.

35 minutes left until the update is complete!

I think it's badly paced and lacking in details with so much happening offscreen.

Say whaaaat. Need to to checkout some of the classics.

Also, I'd wait for some video reviews and extended YouTube footage if you're on the fence.

I liked Kingsglaive and Brotherhood for what its worth, and give me a list of whats available on PS4/Worth playing and I'd be willing to check some others out but yeah, I unfortunately never had the chance to get into the series until now, aside from FF13 and I uh, was told to stay far away from that.

Wait, unless this is the only thing you want to play. Nowadays waiting even just a few months benefits consumers greatly(so many games dropping off 20 bucks super quickly). Also the more time passes the more information is out people have time to digest and you usually get good posts that can paint a good picture in culmination. There just isn't any good reason beyond one's own lack of self control to jump in with doubts right at the release.
Really release day full price buys should be done out of confidence.
There is nothing else I want to play really, also I'm buying digitally so discounts wouldn't really affect me any time soon :/
