I'm a little confused, is this first day sell through for FFXV or the first 3 days?

Three days unless for once Hiska has broken his usual note rules in that if it has a "days tracked" attached to it means more than First Day Sellthrough since the data came in more than one day after opening to market, day one sell through was 48% or at least that number was getting floated around.

I would guess they shipped somewhere close to a million copies of FFXV.

If they did, then there will be a lot of dead stock but this may end up explaining where that five million shipped came from, eg. over-shipments everywhere.

Best guess since it says 3 days tracked that it did indeed sell 60% in those 3 days total.

Really small unless it was really overshipped or something IMO.
Thanks for clarifying. That is not a great result then. It will probably take some discounts before it will need a second shipment, if it ever will need a second shipment that is.

Maybe they shipped all five million to japan, and the game has sold three million at retail!

What an awful year it's been for Bandai Namco licensed games in Japan. Xenoverse 2 and SAO are in decline and with the exception of Dragon Ball Fusions, everything else just came and went.

Rabbids Land

[3DS] Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) (¥5.700)

I knew this was going to happen. At first glance, the entire Appmon project looks so derivative and it chose an awful time to launch on 3DS.

What is it with ffxv that some of you are really trying hard to make fun of the game/sales. The game seems to have been received well and probably had a decent start sales wise from the looks of it. It is like some of you really want the game to bomb or something so you can make fun of its sales for the next few months.....

Final Fantasy released on Monday, and it was an important day for Square Enix. Most stores had big ads of the game, both inside and outside. Luna Edition was very popular, as well. However, it seems there should be lots of units out there. The game is very frontloaded and, in my opinion, it probably might be difficult to sell the first shipment.

Entering Christmas means Nintendo software and at Santy the season is mainly focused on first party titles (New Leaf with amiibo is sold-out), but also on third party software as Sumikko, Monster Hunter or Dragon Ball. There were released another wave of amiibo, this time Zelda-themed.

Sony, though, with the release of Final Fantasy has such a good line-up. Yakuza is very advertised, and there are campaigns with great discounts at TSUTAYA.

Oh yeah, forgot to post it yesterday, but The Alliance Alive (FuRyu, same team as Legend of Legacy) is out on March 30th. Same day as that Attack on Titan ADV game, actually (and one of the two Weeks of Death).

SE: Final Fantasy XV is a huge success, fastest selling title in the series to date.

GAF: lol no. These Japan only, retail only sell-thoughts tell me otherwise :)

Things like this remind me that we haven't seen Pennywise in a long time.

How come this one is cratering anyway? Appmon not very popular?

Macross underperformed quite heavily too and Next Order had no legs.

Still, Kamen Rider PS3/PS4/Vita did well (better than the last entry)

There's been no Assassination Classroom/Seven Deadly Sins-esque runaway successes, though.

With Famicom Mini do you have picture what's happening with the shipments and if Nintendo restocks? I have the impression this will be the top selling hardware of holidays, if it wasn't a one time print.

Nintendo confirmed it is not a one time print.

All I know is Toys R Us will have it again from 3 December and COMG! from 8 December. Probably every other store has a date too.

well of course it's the fastest selling title in the series so far, being the only one to even have a simultaneous worldwide launch

Lots of folks with agendas in this thread.

Discussing the fall of FF in Japan is something that will continue to happen in Media Create threads. Selling probably a little over a 1/3 of what the prior entry did is a major event - especially with PS4 still tracking ahead of PS3. There aren't many million sellers in Japan on consoles this gen - FFXV is pretty much the biggest exclusive PS4 game for Japan historically.
This is my agenda, also revisiting old MC threads where we were discussing Splatoon/FFXV/Persona an year ago might put things into perspective.

Simply put the PS4 has been on the market for a while but there hasn't been a "hit" because of what I(we) believe is just the outright rejections of console gaming in Japan.

Japanese gaming market is still huge it's simply entirely build around mobile/handheld right now and very few franchises being released on consoles/handhelds are actually seeing a rise in their sales numbers.

Well, there's definitely a new shipment coming:

According to Maya,

By units, Famicon is sold out and next shipment is planned for December, still stock left of PRO.

Now the question remains: how many units will they ship? If they do ship enough, I could see it being among the top-selling hardware (not sure about #1, though).

For FF 5+ million shipment that is World Wide and includes digital sales. First SE said FF had very high digital sales in Japan (compared to usual, I am sure still much lower then the West) and second Digital is probably 30+% in the West (read comments from EA and Ubisoft about digital sales recently).

It's very likely that overall physical shipment may have been around 3.5 - 3.8 mil or so which is fairly reasonable and can sell through in the first 3-4 months. Now Japanese part of that who knows since as pointed out console gaming is basically done in Japan except for a small niche. At the least FF should beat Persona 5 so we may see ~400-500K sales first week.

Nintendo is not re-stocking right now. Santy has it sold out, and online retailers as Rakuten don't have a date for new units. At least, I know they were selling it until last week's Wednesday. For now, second hand Famicom Mini are quite popular, and even those units are climbing the 10,000yen mark. So, let's see. Next week surely stores will have some units. This Sunday, gonna ask about how is the situation.

We're not really trying hard to make fun of a 60% sell through in three days for a product that is (a.) expected to be down on its predecessor and (b.) front loaded. We're just observing the numbers with some obvious tongue-in-cheek jest on my part, and they aren't looking great from a "channels are not stuffed" perspective.

Its also the biggest launch left, so its obviously at the center of our attention.

Do you really believe that people have an objective view on things? :D
Some people have invested for months in the fact that this game would be bad and would bomb that they won't accept other results even if proved wrong by reality ;)
Even if the game somehow managed to sell around 1m in the first week you'll get the same people who were expecting 400-700k moving the goalpost and claiming that it's a bomb anyway because it didn't sell like FFXIII.
So don't give a lot of weight to what people say on message boards in general ;)

I think at the end of the day FFXV will be a success, commercially and critically, and the implication of that seems to go against what some have thought was going to happen....I dunno, but I can understand if it was the bitterness from being a Versus fan ;___;

I'm not sure what you're implying here. People in this thread are actually WANTING FFXV to be a success, but have been seeing fairly worrying signs thus far. The fact that what seems to be a superior title may have a big drop over the controversial FFXIII would pretty much eliminate one of the last guaranteed million sellers on Sony's platforms in Japan. Japan's dedicated video game software market has been declining a lot in the past 5-6 years (from its peak during the DS days), and we're looking for things actually doing better than their predecessors, and they are few and far between.

Also Square Enix's shipment numbers don't really tell us much. Folks like Chris and others have been looking at this data for years, so unless you have similar expertise, I wouldn't just assume they have agendas. Stating that "X sales" are likely going to be down from its previous title due to data points A, B, and C isn't an agenda, it's just math and probabilities.

I hope it does well, and we'll see how weekend sales turn out.

I don't think I have seen anyone in this thread who actually wants FFXV to bomb or under perform, it's just that we are getting many warning signs that it will bomb or under perform. We are just trying to take an objective look at the evidence we see.

They really dropped the ball with the Famicom Mini (and the NES Mini). They really need to have shipments next week, and no more shortages until the end of the year.

A little fun fact I noticed when updating my leg-o-meter file: this year, three different editions of Animal Crossing: New Leaf charted at least once in the Media Create Top 20. I think this might be unprecedented (not counting dual versions like Pokémon, dual-packs, or Limited Editions).

Game itself charted 17 weeks out of the 47 so far this year.

SE PR can say whatever they want but the jury if FFXV will be a huge success is still out there.
I put who think a launch shipment of 5 million units is an outstanding result on the same level as those who thought FFXV would at best have a LTD of 4 million (some did in previous MC threads).

With Famicom Mini do you have picture what's happening with the shipments and if Nintendo restocks? I have the impression this will be the top selling hardware of holidays, if it wasn't a one time print.
I was pretty bold in my expectation for NES/Famicom Mini however I always feared Nintendo wouldn't bring/manufacture enough stocks.
Don't fuck this up Nintendo.

I'm just trying to remember - what million sellers were there on PSP outside of all the Monster Hunters?

I think it was just one of the Dissidia games, but I don't remember which one.

The first got close to 1m with all SKU's combined (depending on which tracker you follow), the second one dropped off a lot.

Nothing other than MonHun topped 1m with one release.

Only Monster Hunter games I do believe.
Combining all the SKUs Dissidia came very close 995K so you might want to consider it a million seller too.

Assuming you are speaking Japan only then Monster Hunter only pretty much. Was surprised that Crisis Core couldn't break a mil.

With budget re-release Media Create has Peace Walker as a million seller.

Basically the games that passed or came close to 1 million are the expected

Monster Hunter Freedom 3
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Monster Hunter Freedom 2
Monster Hunter Freedom
Dissidia: Final Fantasy
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy Type-0

YSO predicts Final Fantasy XV's second week to be less than 100k, not surprising given first week predictions.

They're also predicting Yakuza 6's first week to be the series worst since the original game, once again not that surprising.

Pokémon legs will kick in as almost everyone expects Sun / Moon to sell twice as much as FFXV for the week.
