Taste in music aside, there's absolutely no reason to buy a radio these days if my local stations are anything to go by. For kicks I looked up the last 50 songs played by the station here that would even play Ariana Grande...... it only goes up to 32. No need to buy a device that plays 32 songs on repeat with commercial breaks.

Just watch her shit on youtube or spotify or some shit, let radio die.

I don't mean for her music, I mean for music in general. This whole "who is she, today's music is shit" attitude is silly.

Ehh, I dunno.

I mean, I think most people know if they like today's music, and by this I only mean today's popular music, by now. I know I don't. I generally dislike everything on the radio. I don't discover anything good by listening to it anymore. When I'm on my way home from work I get more of a kick out of listening to weirdo's describe alien abductions on Coast to Coast AM than anything played on a station playing current music.

But, that's not to say nothing good is being made now because there's tons of good new music being made all the time but I feel that radio culture is all about consolidation. Not just among the stations, which is why the stations are so crappy compared to when I was young, but across music too. All the country stations are playing the same country songs. All the rock stations are playing the same rock songs. All the R&B stations are playing the same songs. And all the classic stations are playing the same songs. Seems just like how people buy into the news they already agree the same thing's more or less happening with music. So if you're already predisposed to like today's music, good news, they're going to explicitly cater to you, if you don't, well sucks for you because they're not going to play anything but. The internet on the other hand's a Godsend, there's tons of good stuff still being made.

That's why I think a radio's a silly choice for music. If you like today's music go for it, if you already don't then what's the point? Not like hearing today's music but on repeat is going to change anyone's mind.

But I agree it's silly for people to not know who she is. I know most of these pop stars and famous people because I just pay attention. Do I care for most of them, no, but I know who they are. I don't get how one could keep their head down to a degree to not know what's going on around them to such a degree.

All the people in this thread being aggressive as fuck because not everyone pays attention to pop stars is kind of weird.

Iknowrite

chill out

it's okay if people don't know who your favorite singer is,
I stopped watching the Disney channel a long time ago so I bet most folks 25+ are similar

but no YOU'RE OLD AND YOU LIVE IN YOU'RE MOMS BASEMENT NERD (on a gaming forum)

It's kinda odd that I only really remember her because she was on that Nickelodeon show (Victorious?) portraying an airheaded character.

Context for having NO CLUE who she is:

I don't watch "normal" TV and my prime form of Entertainment is video games. I'm 33 and I rarely listen to music and my girlfriend, who is a few years older than me, does not listen to pop and prefers things like Daft Punk.

All of my media consumption comes from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Crunchyroll, and MCU movies. I mostly get my news from Gaf, Kotaku, and Easy Allies for anything "media" related and I do not look up anything to do with celebrities, popstars, or whatever gossip is going on. I don't follow actors or musicians at all.

Not one of my circles of information crosses with her in *any* way due to me not paying attention to pop/music gaf.

Wait. FFXV isn't any good? I really haven't been following the franchise after FFXIII.

It's got an extremely vocal group that goes into every thread about final fantasy and some not about final fantasy to talk about how awful it is. Look in the game of the year thread and you will see a lot of people love it (myself included).

I see. I do plan to get it eventually. Don't have much time right now. I did read here on Neogaf that generally people like the gameplay/battle system, but the story is bad or not enough etc. similar to MGSV.

FF XV's not bad by any means.

Honestly, I get how people my age would say it's not Final Fantasy, it's totally different than the ones we grew up with, but I also think it's a cool change of pace. I'm really liking it. Yeah, I have some faults with the story but when do I not?

Though I think both camps would have been served better had it been a spinoff and not a mainline title, that way traditionalists wouldn't feel it's ruining the mainline series, I think it'd get a fairer shake if that were the case.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
you'd have to be under a rock to not know who she is after the donut licking controversy a while back.

It's as much of a FF as 7, 8 or 10.
It's just a poorly put together mess of a game, with very strong individual ideas and a massive budget for production value, to hold it together.
But the "feel" of being in a next gen FF world, was the only real saving grace of that game, for me.

It is a bit weird to now know such a big name, but I wouldn't hold it against anyone. The posturing about not knowing really is funny though.

Well I learned that Kanye is some kind of super famous raper from reading Neogaf OT :D

Through I agree with the second part which is why I'm not going into threads about him asking who the hell is that :D

Ariana Grande is massively popular in Japan.

It's unsurprising that she's in this game and that people are having an irrational negative reaction to it.
