Excuse me, call it what you like but if there's one thing Drew didn't do in any of the MGS games it is breeze through them.

Thats definitely how I remember MGS4, he pretty much just shot his way out anytime things went south.

Brad's playing of Hitman during that stream confirmed that he actively doesnt look at the minimap, at least when he's on video. It's amazing.

Can't be any worse than Dan asking, "Am I trespassing right now?" while the word "TRESPASSING" is literally on the screen.

I love all these precious boys so much, but man is it infuriating to watch them try to play Hitman

Hmm, could be worth a trial run. Wasn't id talking about allowing single player levels to be built using snapmap? It could be fun to see them try to build really difficult levels for one another to play.

Actually it's always been possible to make single player levels in SnapMap.
They've even added in the possibility to make full on campaigns now.
ID has even made some new levels of which some are quite good, just click on new featured DOOM missions on the main menu to get to them.

Hah! Goes to show I never actually clicked on anything other than campaign.

Not sure who owns giantbomb.sexy but they should probably update the redirect.

Also would be nice if they could kindly add '&goto=newpost' to the end of the URL. :)

Man sometimes people in here get bothered by the weirdest shit.
I like the Best Of stuff. It's a fun way to revisit funny moments.

Agreed, best of is awesome. If I ever need a laugh I just queue one of those up. It also is a large part of what got me into giant bomb, when I saw one of those.

Cool. I wonder how granular it lets you get as far as enemy placement and spawn triggers and whatnot.

I checked on the first part of a multi-level SnapMap created by (I think) someone at id (the username had id in the name). It was like a full-on single-player thing, where you had to get the power back up and running in a facility step-by-step. The cool thing is, you can make levels using the classic Doom aesthetic. I tried making a deathmatch map in that style, but after making the layout, I didn't really know how else to proceed. It was fun to do, though.

I think it would be funnier to see Brad trying to make a map for the original Doom. A whole different kind of Breaking Brad.

That would be awesome, too. As I said above, I tried making a deathmatch arena using that aesthetic. SnapMap gets really crazy when dealing with logic and whatnot. That's where the real skillful and dedicated creators shine.

I mean, check this out: http://kotaku.com/how-a-guy-nearly-broke-dooms-snapmap-to-make-a-moba-1780165993

As someone who considers himself a terrible singer I though y'all were just being mean about Dan's singing. Oh boy. Maybe I am not so bad after all. Brad pissing himself trying not to laugh the whole time.

btw, anyone know how much the Brad stream raised for the kids?

$0 for the kids. It was all for the moms.

Mapmaking for Doom is actually not that hard. The tools and editors (mainly the Doom Builder family) that are around these days are super easy and fun to use. Leaps and bounds beyond what even id was using to make the games back then.

Because Doom is technically a 2D game it's also pretty simple to get into and quickly whip up something playable, even if you're completely inexperienced in that kind of stuff. You just have to wrap your mind around a few central concepts.

There is a reason why that scene is still going strong as ever.

As I was watching the E3 2005 video for the Specialtacular, it struck me just how young Greg Kasavin was in those days. Back then, he seemed to me like some wizened guru, but in reality he was only like 26-27.

Oh god, I just watched the Giant Bomb Rock Band 4 Christmas Special...

It was something else.

Vinny really got into it. Dan made me want to kill myself.

well I fell for the hype from giantbomb and bought Inside. That last bit was interesting I guess but yikes I wish I'd waited for this to be 5 bucks or something. Finished it in like 2 hours. At least now I don't need to mute the podcast when they're talking about the game.

Re:Complaining about the best of video a few pages ago

right now the YT count for it is at 20k. That's pretty decent. If even half of those people aren't people who regularly visit GB, and decide to add GB into their lives, that's great for GB.

also I love vinnys laugh

Yeah, that video was a great compilation of the year. Though, one little bit I thought we'd see was the one where Jeff and Dan were building a Mario Maker level and were were at the part where you need to be small to proceed in the next section and Dan realizes that Jeff missed the spike that made Super Mario back into regular Mario. Dan's "YOU'RE BIG!" realization and Jeff's facial reaction was the best.

In regards to the Best Of's, it was a major part of what got me to actually subscribe to GB (the other being a friend of mine telling me to several times).

I also find them useful for reminding me of stuff I may have missed, and sometimes just something I watch when I need a good laugh. Nothing wrong with them.

Plenty of podcasts do "best of" podcasts at the end of the year. I see nothing wrong with it and i don't see it being a self congratulatory thing it's more just a way to let people who haven't seen any videos to get acquainted with what the website is all about.

new feature concept: Jeff and Brad watch every "Best Of" video and comment over them

then they can comment over those videos five years from now

That would begin to sound like the insanity that was the XB1 picture-in-picture-in-picture thing from the launch day stream.

Has the top 10 always just been such a collection of their individual favourite games of the year? I feel like the arguments for the bottom 3 were really weak this year beyond "you know guys, I really love this game".

At least Austin put forward a proper argument for Invisible Inc.

The Destiny year has kind of broken the point of hashing this stuff out.

Obviously there's no objectivity, but consensus > "this needs to be number 10 because it's my number 1". If they're doing that now, it might as well be a top 5 or a return to winner and runner ups.

I think the bottom half has often had people squeezing in their "pet" games without too much friction. Austin's game was number 9 and they gave Witcher 10th without anyone even coming close to finishing it. If there had been a Stardew Valley or a Thumper that year, I dont think they would have fought hard to get it on.
