Skyrim: Special Edition - Mods Thread: Thomas the Tank Engine Strikes Back

It doesn't look like it, sadly. I just took a look through Bethesda's site, and all the alternate start/bypass the intro mods I can see are for either PC or XBox One.

Since this is my first playthrough of Skyrim, what do you guys recommend for the transformations?

Wolf or Vampire?

If you've modded vampirism so that it doesn't make you look like a tremendous dork, be a vampire.

Otherwise, be a werewolf.

(Or, reasonably, be a werewolf early in the game and then swap teams after you finish the werewolf-specific plotline. The most interesting vampire contents [Dawnguard] tends to come later, anyway.)

I'll do this! Thanks.

I just can't get into Skyrim anymore, not like day one. I suppose that's normal but it's dampening my ability to run through it again. I need that Skywind /Skyblivion mod or something.

I loaded the SE up, tons of mods, had fun in the beginning and just lost track/focus. I WANT to play through it again, I really do, but something isn't clicking.

Others experiencing this, or are there suggestions here? I'm a Bethesda fan, though the latest Fallout didn't do it for me at all either. I want those OG experiences again.

edit: Hello fellow Rangers fan! ^

Sup Stasis! I think I can understand with what you're saying, even since this is my first go at it. It might be better if it were a shorter game but this thing is such a consumer of hours that, if you don't give yourself a whole new experience with a shitload of mods, then why go though it again.

I'm waiting desperately for something that makes the Thieves Guild storyline less stupid and/or tedious. I've pretty much just clenched my jaw and bulled my way through all the godawful Mercer Frey stuff again, but now I'm up to the point where you have to do five billion little jobs for the guild all over the map to restore the guild to its former glory.

Does the game tell you how many jobs you have left to do? Does it tell you where they need to be done? Do the NPCs giving out the jobs allow you to choose the location of the jobs so you don't have to needlessly repeat ones in locations you've already finished? If your answer to any of that is "Yes?", welcome to your first Bethesda game.

I've seen mods that ease all the tedium for the PC, but none of them seem to have made the leap over to the XBox yet. I live in hope.

Is there a mod for xbox that adjusts the leveling? I remember playing and being high level and the final boss being only like 25 and easily killing him.

It's only 5 missions in each major city excluding Riften. That's 4 cities and a special mission at the end of each.

Do the numbers task from Delvin and quicksave the second you accept it and have left the chat. If you get a mission in Riften or a place where you have already done 5 numbers tasks, load your quicksave and you'll get a new mission without having to talk to him and cancel. Repeat until you get a city that you haven't completed.

There may be a mod to better this process but I did it the hard way yesterday.

Sorry if this has been asked a thousand times already but I didn't see anything. Is there a list of must-haves for PS4?

I've been meaning to get into Skyrim modding, for portfolio purposes mainly, but I missed out on getting the new version. Is there a significant quality increase in the props themselves apart from a higher resolution and nicer water etc? I have a really old PC with a HD4870 Radeon card, but iirc, the original Skyrim ran fairly alright for me. I assume the editor requires higher specs these days? Finally, what happens if I make a mod in the old editor, and someone with the new game downloads it? They get the new props or the old ones?

There's no increase in polygons or texture resolution for any of the assets unless you use a mod, they are all the same as the original game.

You cant make a mod in the old editor for Skyrim Special Edition, its all different binaries.

Laelette the Vampire's face seems to have the black face bug when I did the Morthal Laid to Rest quest. I use WICO, and uninstalling it and switching to Total Character Makeover fixes the problem, but I'd rather not since WICO has rather nice faces.

Huh, that's surprising. So what's the point of the new version? :lol Just nicer water and god rays sorta? Sounds good to me, like I'm not really losing out if I decide to make an "old" mod then.

So there are not worthy mods on PS4? That sucks.

There's nothing that changes the structure of the game, but you can add more foliage, more lampposts, alter the weather system, and make the water look better. You can add a lot of QOL changes. All in all mods on PS4 are very welcome considering they almost didn't happen

Ran into an issue yesterday with "Better Docks" mod conflicting with The Scarlett ship mod. At least in Solitude.

It looks like the Scarlett mod tries to dock the ship where the Better Docks mod had added a couple new boats. It kept crashing on me until I disabled the Better Docks.

Sucks since I thought that mod added a lot of life to the otherwise boring dock areas around Skyrim.

The Scarlett is cool though, wish it had a smelter. The riverboat dingy is handy though for sure.

I just read this in the comments of a body replacement mod: "when you equip an outfit or an armour, the body shape changes to the body shape in that piece of clothing. This means that, if you equip an armour with the shape of the vanilla body, you will see the shape of the vanilla body. This is how Skyrim works"

So does that mean it's pointless for me to use body replacements if I never plan on using custom armor made for them? The Seraphim Female Body Replacement looks decent, and I was looking for something for the males (I'm going to play a male Nord). But if this thing with the clothing is true, then maybe I shouldn't bother with them.

Body replacement models on their own only cover the underwear/nude model. Armor models are technically their own body meshes. Usually the complementary armor remodels based on respective body replacers make the most sense to use for armors that show more of the base body such as exposed sleeves. Otherwise you might get inconsistencies like the hands not being properly connected to the arms when not wearing any gloves.

Thanks. I did find a vanilla armor replacer for the female model, but couldn't find one for any of the male models. Bethesda's mod database isn't exactly easy to browse and search. It seems like search terms show results from mod descriptions as well as titles, and it seems to match any word, instead of all.

I also found some good weapon skins, but nothing that gives higher detail versions of vanilla weapons.

So yeah I've given up on playing through the game. For one, I simply can't deal with this buggy mess. And to my surprise the game itself is really not that good. I just fail to see how this game became so insanely popular. Maybe it's because I can't get into the story, or the characters.
And without mods the game looks like absolute shit, so playing vanilla is out of the question for me.

I mean, 2011 was a while ago. I remember it being amazing and open and a lot of fun back then. I like it now, but more for the extra stuff and random encounters.

I always put the main story off till last back then, and still do now mostly.

The crashing is getting old.. But I mean that's on me for adding a bunch of mods.

SKSE64 arrival is estimated as March by one of the mod authors. Looks like I won't be playing this for a while and even then authors will need to make their mods work with SKSE64.

Whats.. whats Immersive Weapons
, precious
?

its the sibling mod to immersive armors. :D

it adds a ton of lore friendly weapons to the game.

a lot of people dont love all the armors and weapons, but theres so many added that theres something for basically everyone.

immersive armors has been out, but for some reason weapons has thus far been MIA

Just finished some extensive Skyrim SE modding. I think I'm rocking almost 150 mods. Game looks drop-dead gorgeous in 4K.

Thanks for the update. Beyond SKSE, how close is PC SE to mod parity with the original now, you think?

Yeah, I've played 30 hours but paused to wait for the SKSE. I'll start a new game and try to get all achievements.

So many mods hinge on SKSE, so we're not really close to parody yet. Even some existing mods on SSE are hindered by the lack of SKSE (Frostfall, iNeed). Beyond that, environmental texture mods still need updating, I don't think there's anything as broad as Skyrim HD as of yet. There's also a lack of mods that improve on draw distance. Looking at my Skyrim tracked mods on Nexus, I still have 43 mods that haven't been ported over yet.

I'm really excited for Skywind, it seems to be a high quality project that'll give Skyrim and SSE new life.

Back on the initial release for Skyrim on PC there was a mod(s) that made using an Xbox 360 controller easier/more intuitive when navigating menus/inventory, etc. I'm playing on Xbox One now but find the UI/controls a bit clunky, is there any mod that changes this up and improves upon the default controls in a more meaningful way than the simple default button reconfiguration?

I believe all original Skyrim texture mods work, as long as it doesn't have an .esm or an .esp and are just textures. I've got probably 40 original Skyrim texture packs running in my version right now.

Yeah I tested midianborn which works fine, but most LOD mods do contain an esp.

AFAIK, this isn't correct. I believe with SSE all textures need to be compressed with DXT5. In the original, color / spec maps were generally saved with DXT1.

Well I'm done. Some combo of mods is refusing to let me enter Riften. Game crashes when loading into it.

Only way I can get into Riften is with Open Cities on. It then crashes once I hit the center of the city. Can't get into any other city with the mod on.

With Open Cities off, I can get into every city but Riften. Lol

Sorry if this has been answered, I keep losing track of what works/doesn't and what actually requires SKSE, etc.

Does SkyUI (or something similar/better) work on the SE?

I want to start a new character in the SE and my old game was modded to hell & back (mainly graphical things though) - I suppose none of that really matters, but I would hate to lose the UI I was so used to.

I was a bit disappointed initially that I chose the Xbox One version over the PC but I've found some mods/settings that have made the game pretty much just how I want it sans for maybe a more intuitive control setup.

Using the following mods...

Unofficial Skyrim SE Patch
Static Mesh Improvement
Skyland - A Landscape Texture Overhaul
Skyrim Graphic Overhaul
Lush Overhaul
Project Hippie
Realistic Water Two
Enhanced Blood Textures
Nordic Snow
Rain and Snow FX
Marco's Integrated Leveled Lists
Redesigned Lydia
Adorable Females
Natural Eyes
Cloaks and Capes
Belt-fastened Quivers
A Quality World Map - Vivid with Stone Roads
Point the Way
Display Enhancements

...the last one of which claims to be a fake ENB of sorts and it turned out to be quite a powerful little tool. I chose the preset labeled "Unkown" which seems to fix the washed out look without crushing blacks or over-saturating the picture quality. I came to prefer the original weather/skies after giving a couple mods a try.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with where it is at the moment with no complaints as it looks rather stunning with this combination of mods.
