Japanese multiplatform games in particular. I'm not talking about stuff like Street Fighter 5 where Sony invested money in the game. I'm talking about all the Japanese games that could come to the Xbox, but the publishers don't bother and often just make a PC version instead. If a Japanese franchise isn't Resident Evil/Final Fantasy/Dark Souls/Tekken, it's probably not coming to Xbox.
This list is just from the top of my head, so I'm probably forgetting something.
Nier: Automata
Guilty Gear Xrd
Persona 5
Dragon Quest Heroes/XI
Earth Defense Force 5
Dynasty Warriors series
Samurai Warriors series
King of Fighters XIV (Sony Money)
Ace Combat 7
Yakuza series
-All these games are on PS4.
-Most are on PC.
-All of these IPs have been on the Xbox 360 except DQ and Yakuza.
-None of these games are published by Sony.
From everything I've heard it is MUCH easier to port a PS4/PC game to Xbox One than it was to make PS3/360 ports. The Xbox 360 used to get these games even though it sold like shit in Japan. Obviously the 360 had a larger market share, so publishers bothered to make Xbox ports. Plus Microsoft used to throw money at companies like Namco to get exclusives.
We've got a lot of threads talking about what exclusives Microsoft needs to make or buy, but I just want to say that Microsoft should focus attention on making sure that as many third-party games come to the system as possible. Market share is a big factor, no doubt, but if it takes throwing money/resources/support at companies to ensure that they get ports too, they should be doing that.
The list of PS4 games that are console exclusive by default, and not because Sony made some business deal, keeps growing. I won't be shocked if soon we see a bunch of multiplatform game that come to Switch,PS4, and PC but leave out Xbox. It just feels like if the game isn't a guaranteed million selling blockbuster, Microsoft doesn't give a shit if it comes to their system anymore. Want to please your customers, Microsoft? Stop sitting idly by while your competitors get "de facto" exclusives.
