I support it if it stops bands from writing whiny articles/blogs about how hard touring life is and how they don't make moneyRecently supported Ne Obliviscaris's patreon. Curious what people's thoughts are on the model?
If you want to actually make your music into a business then I think people should take advantage of whatever they can for sources of income. Patreon is good because a lot of times you have fans who just want to support, you're also getting into Twitch sub territory where people are like "hey i gave you money we're friends now right? notice me please"
I don't really see a problem with it if people aren't begging for money or if you set it up solely to say "hey if you want to support us it'll help us out a lot". I have a bigger problem with someone like that Allegeaon band (don't know how it's spelled, who cares) where they say they'll break up if they don't get Patreon money.
A lot of people in bands hate the model and think it's just whiny kids who think they're entitled to money. Again if people are willing to pay I don't really see an issue with it, but it is stupid when these bands that are like "hey guys we really need the money" also need a big tour bus, a driver, and a bunch of other unnecessary vanity shit. You need the band, gear, and a van.
