I'm glad they finally found their niche with this and I think it's the best for all parties involved. They don't have to pretend that they're interested in honest film criticism and their fans don't have to pretend it's what they tune in for.

Solid effort with room for improvement.

I thought that the first part was boring, so I gave up until I saw someone talk about the loot crate and the ending. The loot crate stuff was fun enough, but for the most part the gimmick of the show isn't that interesting, nor is most of the delivery - it's mostly the physical stuff. Like when Mike hit his head on the microphone, I laughed quite a bit. And of course, the ending - holy shit, the ending. Rich collapsing, almost taking out what is probably some pretty damn expensive equipment, and then after Jay breaks character in a panic, they all pause - only for the silence to be broken by BB8. That comedic timing was so perfect that I'm almost convinced that it was intended or edited, but their reactions are too real for it to be. I haven't laughed so hard and for so long since I watched Wheel of the Worst 12, with Ms. Udderly.

Do you think they've stopped all their other shows or what?

Please tell me RICH EVANS had no prior knowledge of what was in those nerd crates. The Rey figure was too funny.

So not worth it

He did not, obviously, and that just made it that much better.

Also worrying, since I'm not sure what was in that pill bottle.

Why are they feeding into this bullshit about reviews being paid for by studios, though.

I mean, the satire (such as it is) isn't bad, and the phrase "grundle" is never not funny, but they know their audience is pretty fucking gullible, and a bunch of em probably buy this bullshit narrative that studios are out here purchasing film critics.

Why give that weight when it's pretty much weightless?

I mean all these sites are competing for business and views. If you can convince the audience that only you will tell it straight, only you can't be bought, you might drive folks away from other sitrs and to yours... exclusively.

Video was pretty good but other than the action figure the Ghostbusters jokes were lame and the EVPMS one might actually be the laziest joke of 2017...

What's the joke there ?
Is EVP a jab at GB's Electro Voice Phenomenon ? Then what is MS ?

What they're actually saying is that these reviewers are biased because they get pampered by the studios, not that they're bought.

It's exactly the same criticism that goes for game journalism, where not too long ago we got a nice glimpse into how studios pamper the journalist with swag and free trips to inspire favorable reviews. Swag bags, free tickets to big premiere events, it's all a thing that happens and isn't talked about. Whether that bothers you or not is up to you, but it's not like it's a lie on RLM's part.

It is pretty obvious that the fuel for their comedy isn't really bad movies anymore, or movies in general, it's a need to shit on the larger Star Wars fandom primarily, and film fandom in general. And lord knows it's a fuckin' target-rich environment.

This satirical format is the best way for them to scratch that itch as opposed to say, Plinkett, or Half in the Bag, where those aspects where there but sorta spread out (and in the case of Plinkett, getting played out)

This works better than the other shit did because it's way more focused. This is what they wanna go at, and this is a good way to go at it: They're critics of the fandom itself now, not so much the movies. That's really what they've been trying to get at the last few Star Wars reviews, and now they're jumping up and down on that point.

Granted, it's yet another variation on that one-note song "you're a baaaaaad faaaaaaaaan" but it's never not been a pop hit.

Technomancer & I actually had a decent convo regarding those points after the post you just quoted. Keep readin'

I still think their best content is Best of the Worst. Free form (slightly drunken) discussion over bad movies, looking for positives when they can and not being outright "hateful" as often. A lot of the enjoyment is the crazy shit they watch granted, but I just attach to that easier than their satire of written critical stuff, y'know...

Personally...

They still give honest reviews on half in the bag when it's not a movie they can't just laugh at, like bye bye man. For example they liked La La Land but still had plenty of things to critique.

Yes. Personally I like when I pay real money to Nerd Box and receive rancid, cut up hot dogs.

But that's just my opinion. I enjoyed the action.
