Are y'all really scared that the reaction to a damn children's movie, that is probably gonna be great, will impact the live action shit?

KK

Able to have a cake and eat it too and everybody is going mad over the thought the movies are going PG, or mad that they aren't. It's a funny world we live in.

Ok I liked BvsS, Man of Steel and Suicide Squad and am not afraid to admit it but you all are too militant for me. So far down the rabbit hole you all are gonna hate on a great fun movie just because its going to be more liked than the Snyder ones is ridiculous.

Thanks for being sane. I appreciate it.

I don't think anyone hates the reception The Lego Batman movie is getting. They just hate the comparison and click bait that it gets in regards to the DCEU. And what it could mean for the DCEU. Some of the people who stab these movies do it partly because of difference from the Marvel method. That's what attracted them to these films. So naturally they would feel some disappointment when all they hear in regards to upcoming DC movies is only "Fun, Fun, Fun"!

I'm not one of those people. I enjoy many different tones and variations of my favorite characters as long as I deem personally good. I'm going to be there probably day one or two for Lego Batman. I personally don't give a shit whether they head to a more fun tone, just make it appropriate for the character. I myself don't want a quippy Batman. I appreciate a Batman who is spare and effective with his sardonic dry humor. Making Batman the DCEU equivalent of Iron Man would be an entire betrayal of his character. I feel right now I don't have to worry, since nothing gave me pause during JL "trailer". Well, maybe the "fish" and the " more more" jokes, but the former was harmless and the other was "meh".

Well yeah, it's stupid that they want to compare the live action stuff to a kid's animated movie, but it makes headlines and gets clicks. And you can still have something to say while still being insightful. I think you are all taking "fun" to mean "dumbed down". The two aren't joined at the hip. I think Snyder can pull it off.

No one's hating on LEGO Batman. I think it looks great for what it is. I think mostly all of us would agree with that.

There's just two things that get annoying... When people use it as a prop to shit on the DCEU, and the thought of WB taking that kind of reception to heart and forcing LEGO tones into live action in an attempt to please these people.

Thank you, I didn't know what it was but you said it. Peeps here acting like fun and stupid mean the same thing. Like we get it, some of you don't like the Marvel movies and hate that they are called "fun". That don't mean that the DCEU movies can't be fun, I'll take a movie that's fun, good, and not boring. I've already gotten on of those with this series, hopefully JL or Wonder Woman can be good

I've been watching Justice League Unlimited every night before bed, and they are to this day incredibly fun and engaging, while still having moments for darker situations and violence. It's possible to do with these characters. Marvel being safe and cookie cutter has little to do with tone. It's how they are written. DC can avoid that fairly easily, so long as the creatives do their thing. I think that's the largest obstacle right now.

fake edit: shit double post, my b.

lol..Ain't happening.

I highly doubt they'll be looking at a kids movie for cues for their live action blockbusters. Fairly different audiences, even with the overlap.

Exactly..

Im drunk gordon, I love ya ☺

Like honestly, let Marvel do they thing and let folks at DC do whatever the fuck they want to do.

I will get great enjoyment out of both if people are allowed to make what the hell they want to make for the most part. Man of Steel was great because Snyder made what he wanted to make.

Twitter Detective thinking Chris Mckay, director of Lego Batman, is going to be the involved with the DCEU because of A Geoff Johns follow. Forgetting that Lego Batman is a DC Entertainment property, and Johns is president and chief creative officer of DCE. Folks need to stop putting so much stock into every follow of his.

McKay did say he'd be open to directing a DCEU film, but yeah I doubt anything has come of that this soon. Damn twitter detectives.

John Cleese is totally I though. No way he isn't unless he's that big of a troll. Hammer, the jury is still out.

You never know. People always accuse Warner of being reactionary.
lol..Ain't happening.

Obviously they can't go full LEGO movie, but they could head in that direction. As in more of an MCU style of constant tension breaking humor.

If joyless and humorless are still common complaints come Justice League, and critics point to Marvel and LEGO movies as an example of how to do it right, you could end up with some buffoonery going forward. Like a villain being challenged to a danceoff or something.

I think you guys are failing to see the bigger picture here. I'll elaborate in the morning but the basic jist of it is: For those of you saying "Fun doesn't mean stupid or jokes every 2 minutes" let me ask you - What evidence have the people in charge of the DCEU provided that they are competent enough to pull that off? Let me remind you their last effort to put "fun" in the universe resulted in Suicide Squad.

Was fun the issue with Suicide Squad? I thought it was having a trailer house edit a motion picture, having an OP villain that did not work at all with the protagonists, a rushed script that could of used a once (and twice and thrice) over, and general lack of flow.

Quick fire:

1. Remember their purpose was to lighten the movie.
2. Reshoots to lighten the movie.
3. We don't actually know what of the original script remains in the final movie.

Or did you just happen to forget all of these things happening to Suicide Squad after BvS got slammed by critics for being too dark?

At the end of the day, the editing is still an issue. Reshoots happen, and yeah while it was the lighten the film, they could have worked if folded into the movie better. I will concede that it was reactionary to BvS' reception, but I'm not going to panic until Wonder Woman. That and Justice League are locked regardless. We won't see the new executives influence until after those two anyway.

My point is that these are the same guys that hacked BvS up, had a shake up, shuffled SS all about, had another shake up, and we've been hearing that WW and JL may not be up to snuff. Given all of that I personally wouldn't be so quick to assume these guys can pull off fun without being stupid or just throwing random jokes out (which, by the way, is what is said to be going on in JL).

If some of you guys think WB isn't paying attention to what the reviews and audiences are saying, you're being naive. Icon pretty much laid it out. They'll use the Lego movies as a reference point if they have to. These movies are multimillion dollar productions afterall. Nothing is left to chance.

Why does every nerd have a hard on for Tim Miller nowadays. Did they like the direction on Deadpool THAT much?
Yeah. It's pretty much because of that movie. Just like how people think Nolan is god because he made The Dark Knight. Nerds are gonna obsess like that for anything.

Miyazaki for Dark Souls. Scott Snyder for Batman. And so on and so on.

Yes, they'll take the reaction to their LEGO movie and attach that feel and tone to their live-action movies. We're not being naive, we're being rational thinking human beings who can think thoughts that aren't bogged down by weird theories

Nolan is Darkseid and Snyder is goddamn jimmy Olsen, who's winning that fight?

When ya best film is Man of Steel it's time to take a step back.

I'm bored, so here's how I think Warner can save Batman. Flush the DC Universe shit. And make the following films:

Arkham Asylum (dir: David Fincher)
The Return of Bruce Wayne (dir: Darren Aronofsky)
Batman Beyond (dir: The Wachowskis)

Nah, that's probably the opposite of what they should do. Really, I now think these movies should be made for kids and families. There's something wrong when movies about capes and thighs icons are targeted to adults. This seems wrong and misguided, plus there's even more money to be made doing that.

To hell with the children

I do think some of them should be geared more to families though. Flash, Shazam, the next Superman movie

Batman should stay targeted primarily for older audiences. I imagine kids were bored as shit during Nolan movies too but whatever the first two were incredible and they all managed to be quite successful regardless.

I could really go for another LEGO Batman/Justice League game right about now.

Getting that 40-hour mindless, button-mashing collectathon itch again.

I understand your point, but I think Nolan poisoned the well. Sure, the movies are great, but think about the fact that heroes that are supposed to exemplify an illustration of our best aspirations can't be enjoyed by all? That's a fundamental misunderstanding of capes and thighs.

I don't know if you're trolling or not half the time. Most of the DC stans on the internet have lost the fucking plot.

there's nothing crazy about his suggestions though. Batman Beyond by the wachowskis...whew

a really moody Arkham Asylum movie by Fincher would fuckin rock too.

actually wachowskis should make man of steel 2 tbh.

Hire Tyler Perry to direct a straight to BET Batman flick.
