Smite |OT| Release The Quacken

I'm so upset I didn't get my Janus snipe just now on video. Sniped a Thanatos right as he landed from his ult while trying to flee our team. He literally fell right on top of my ult. There was no delay, lol.

The upcoming season ticket is now on the PTS, details here: https://dd.reddit.com/r/Smite/comments/5qn74w/2017_season_ticket_spring_split_edition_prize/

If you don't have the gems to buy the season ticket it's looking good as the whole thing is basically free now. If you're able to buy the season ticket it's not as clean cut as it was before and, if you intend to get everything, will be a lot more pricey than before.

Does seem like you get fp for losing though so overall maybe easier to earn fp even without picking games correctly.

Also gothic lolita Jing Wei has been datamined: http://smiteboard.com/models/?e923b0b407774e2c9272be3b21d7c397

I dunno why people are making a big deal about the price of the season ticket.

I don't mind paying for it because I know that it goes to pay for the SPL.

But people are up in arms about it.

But people are up in arms about it.

They see the total price for the whole year (1200 gems) and they don't like it.

I can understand where they're coming from, last 2 years you got everything for 450 gems (think it was cheaper in the 1st year) so this giant increase is a big red flag.

That worry is partially offset by the fact you can now get fp for free and get some fp even for losing games but until we know how much each item is gonna cost in terms of fp we don't know the full story.

If, for example, all the recolours are the early rewards then the 'better' rewards will be harder for people who don't pay to get. Voting on games is a large part of fp income gone if you don't pay. Also getting less fp from wins (if you don't pay) may end up having an effect as well.

So you have to pay 400 for each split?

Yes. For the first split the 400 gems will get you the Mercenary Nem skin and the ability to vote upon all games that split.

When the next split comes around, I assume, there will be a different skin that will come if you spend the 400 gems along with the ability to vote on that splits games.

I usually dislike complaining about matchmaking, because individual anecdotal experience is rubbish for critiquing a game-wide system, but holy ***** are me and my friends finding Clash a pain. We're a trio and usually pretty good, but every game atm is us + 2 utterly moronic feeding idiots, versus a perfectly competent PUG of 5. So many games where our total combined deaths is well under just one of our feeding idiots solo deaths.

Man, you really meet some special people in this game. Playing Assault, enemy team has an Aphrodite and my team spends the entire game ignoring her and trying to kill people that she's just spam healing lol. Not sure I've ever been so frustrated with this game.

It's actually not a bad idea if the team can coordinate. Her passive makes her very tanky when she is surrounded by lots of people (like you often are in assault).
Getting rid of some of those free protections by killing her teammates first can go a long way to making her easier to kill.
Target someone, and make her use her heal then switch target and go all in on the others

She's like a Herc in that sense. On his own most Herc's won't do a lot but if you let them run around with 2,3 or 4 other gods by their side they are going to be a huge headache.

I agree in that sense but I was able to get her down to low health multiple times where if I just had one extra player with me she'd have fallen. Instead my team seemed content to play footsie with a Zhong Kui the entire game.

Just frustrating to have teammates that can't see the opportunity sitting in front of them but it is what it is I guess.

Played a Hel match in assault. I'm not sure if I'm okay with the changes or not. Her 3 is awful now as a heal. During lulls in the combat I'd go to heal the tank and often thought I'd missed because of how small the heal is now on a high health team mate.

Part of Hel's survival was her 3 healing a large chunk of health, that's gone. You put a foot out of position and any half decent team will delete you.

The 1 is infuriating. It is actually a really good heal but is so easily miss-able. At the start of the match I was just throwing a few out just to test and I missed so many. I got the hang of it as the match went on but even towards the end I missed some.

We were sitting under the phoenix waiting for them to push up and I was healing everyone up. As usual people rarely stand still and I missed enough that I had to type "stand still" into chat...

Luckily on our final push to their titan to win the game I hit all my ones while everyone was running around. So either I finally got the hang of it or I just got lucky.

I finally played this game again for the first time in many months, and it seems it's having server issues today. :\

There's a bunch of new gods I had never seen before - The Morrigan, Nike, Thoth, the zombie Japanese lady, the dwarf, Susano, the thicc earth guardian lady, the creepy Mayan gargoyle, and the Chinese dude with JRPG-looking armor. And it appears Vamana lost weight and Freya got plastic surgery.

It's been ddos-ed the whole weekend which has made it hard for people who are trying to do the gem event.

You also missed a lot of them being super strong. But don't worry, they have have nerfed the other top carries in the game, but Freya is still as strong as ever :p. Oh and Apollo is probably back as well.

Gem Storm extended for two more days!

That's 150 gems total for the event... plus 50 from the daily logins... 200 total free gems.

That's half of the season ticket right there.

Played two matches of assault yesterday...

First match, we go up against a group with an Ares and a Geb... and there are no guardians on our team. We got slaughtered.

Second match... again, two guardians on their side (Ares and Ymir)... but this time we get a Ymir, as well, but the guy goes and re-rolls him. So I'm stuck in another match with no guardians.

After 10 minutes, the other group surrendered cause we were just slaughtering them.

I went 4/0/20 on Chronos... a god that I haven't played much... but I've seen enough SPL to know he can kick ass.

And the MOTD yesterday was fun... all healers... so a lot of Sylvanus, Ra, Guan Yu, and Hel. The Ras were having fun with their ultimates. Two Sylvanus on our team meant we were never low on health or mana.

Actually with the season 4 patch taking away his free fatalis he is not considered anywhere near as good as he was in season 3. Of course that's with conquest in mind where his ability to box is all but gone. That won't be a huge deal in assault where his ability to shred towers is still super useful.

Chronos needs it back. Its part of his character identity. At least let him have the basic attack immunity when he hits his autos. He just feels off without the fatalis effect. I get taking it away from Sol or Jing. They didn't really need it but Chronos does or at least in Conquest he does.

Yeah. Due to her passive Jing will still be top tier, Sol will fall off somewhat but will still be a decent pick (could definitely see Barra still pick her) but Chronos will fall really far.

Rama, Apollo and Freya will probably be the three top picks in the pro scene.

Anyone mind giving me some Tyr tips? I want to get better with him but for whatever reason he just won't click for me. I think it's a lot to do with the length of the cooldown on his 3, I feel like I'm out of sorts until I'm able to cap CDR.

Tyr is a lot like Ullr, practice is the best way to get better at him. But like you I also struggle with Tyr a bit early although once I get him decently tanky I turn on.

Keep in mind that the cd on his 3 goes down as you rank it up. It does mean you heal a little less but allows you to switch much more. I believe you rank the 2 first in conquest but I'm not sure. Going 3 first works fine for me in other modes.

Staying in the right mode is also key. With Ullr you want to sit in axe form when you're not doing anything and the same applies to Tyr. Sitting in assault stance allows you get your best damage off but leaves your 3 off cd so you can switch to guard stance to finish the enemy off or to escape/heal.

Always keep in mind Tyr's passive. When you have some tankiness online this passives makes you incredibly annoying to the enemy. They can't kill you due your protections/health, they can't cc for more than 1 second due to your passive and any damage they do to you you can heal up when the next minion wave comes round. You need to take advantage of this to keep the enemy as low as possible. Stay in their face.

Blink is, obviously, super good on Tyr. I have a rank 10 Ymir, Ares and Geb (and even a decent Khumba) so you'd think I'd be good at blink but no (blink Ares is nothing though, you can't miss). Blink Tyr is different cause after blinking you have to turn 180 degrees and re-orientate yourself on the target(s). Blink fearless is (again) just practice though.

Thanks, I actually didn't realize leveling the 3 first could be correct.

So would the right skill order be 4>3>2>1?

I'd say you actually level the 4 last. Upgrading it does the lower the cd and up the damage but it's damage is decent but not great. Also if you're paying attention its not super hard to dodge (usually by walking towards where Tyr started his leap) especially if you have a movement ability.

Also using the ult to start a fight is a huge tell that you're looking to fearless someone, again giving them time to re-position. Early on the ult is probably better used as a cc immune escape (at least until you get a lot more confident with Tyr).

Get your ult at lv5 ofc but I'd say the order would be 3>2>1>4.

Thanks for all the help ThirtyFour, I'm definitely going to put some more time into Tyr until I can get better with him.

Got a big day ahead tomorrow with season 4 dropping on console.

Edit: Delayed until next Monday apparently...

I've been wondering for a while but is there a reason the smite subreddit is filled with white supremacists?

Even in unrelated threads there are upvoted comments about forced diversity, several people being happy about the lack of black gods and the stereotypical depiction of females as evil or weak with skimpy clothes.

Would love to discuss the game's mechanics but the fact that the person on the other end is most likely a Nazi certainly isn't very encouraging.

Kuzenbo looks great aesthetically but I'm not too certain about his kit right now.

He's going to need blink to be truly effective which can hurt the team since it's one less defensive relic.
If you don't get blink then his initiation becomes very weak since everything he does pushes the enemy away. A surprise attack in maps like conquest, joust, siege could work but he will 100% need blink in assault/arena.

His peel is god like though. Anti-initiation can be quite useful but I'd rather have straight initiation over it.

I'd like to see him have low cds even if you don't buy cdr.

What?

I read the smite reddit multiple times a day and I'm not seeing what you're mentioning.

Skimpy clothes on the female gods does get brought up occasionally but I've never seen the evil/weak thing you mention.

Honestly it's reddit. It's a good source for news and maybe the occasional silly play from twitch but little else. I wouldn't get too invested in the actual posters there.

It's reddit, and it's large a cesspool now especially that subs like T_D are thriving there. A lot of the shit posts and memes from there carry over to many other subs, especially gaming related ones. Heck, just the other day in the Switch sub I saw someone complain about Superbowl ads being too "political' and not just about having fun.

Smite is a popular enough game that it's going to be more apparent than smaller game subs. It doesn't help that there are quite a few popular pros and streamers that buy into that line of humor that attracts awful people.

For instance, up until a week ago I was a huge fan of Allied. He was my favorite person within the community as he, for the most part, avoided drama and was positive. However a few days ago he went on a bit of a rant about how he's okay with using terms like "f**" and the n-word because to him they aren't offensive and don't mean anything. Or so he said. It was essentially a "words are just words" and people shouldn't be offended thing. He then went on to say f**/f***** multiple times to stress his point. It was a bit much for me and I've since unfollowed and unsubbed. A real shame.

There aren't many big name Smite community members I really care for anymore. Barra is about it.

EDIT: I don't want to get too into it as this thread moves slowly as it is and this discussion is something more fitting of OT I think.

On a lighter note, second time this week I've put up again TheBest, Dust, and his crew in Assault lol. RIP At least I got to kill TheBest once!

I'm not sure what to make of Kuzenbo. Looking at his kit I feel like he's really going to struggle.

I feel like NeNe Kappa should have a slow or something built in either on the initial hit or through the pet's attacks similar to Frostbound.

I've been playing for a couple of months and am loving the game. But kinda bored of soloing Arena with randoms now.

Where do I go from here? Try and find team-mates for Arena, or move on to other modes, like Joust?

Playing with friends can certainly be fun but you are missing a lot of the moba elements only playing Arena. Arena has it's own meta that is quite different from the other modes.

Clash would be a good option. It does have the lane pushing, objective control and jungle camp management that is key to moba gameplay but is also quite team fight orientated.

Joust is different in that it is on a very confined map while being 3v3. I like Joust cause the team composition can be quite varied and still work. There is also camp control here however there are only 3 camps, the red camp is often contested so knowing your damage to be able to steal or confirm it is always good.
There is also the Bull King on this map which adds another layer (especially with the buff it gives) and does require warding which arena and clash don't really need. (You can ward the red buff in clash but it's not super needed).

Conquest is also an option. Obviously the mode which can have a lot of things going on at once but since the new season just started there is a bit of new so jumping in now wouldn't be a bad idea. I'd say watch a few streams just so you get the general basics though. Also keep in mind the roles are quite strict there so you may feel pinned in there in terms of what god you can choose. You will also find no one wants to play support so it may fall to you if you want to win more than you lose.

There is siege...but I don't like siege.

Forgive me if I went a little too simple, I don't know how much moba stuff you know.

Thanks for your detailed reply. I might try Joust tonight, as I really need to learn the more moba elements.

I'll also try and watch more streams too, as catching some of the expo streams is what re-ignited my interest in Smite.

You might have trouble finding non- conquest streams. As conquest is the mode that the game is balanced around a lot of people like to watch it (even if it's not the most played mode).
There will be streams of other modes but there may be little to no commentary.

Also I forgot to mention assault. Assault's moba mechanics are middling at best but the random nature of it can be a huge draw even if you can sometimes be screwed before the match even begins because the enemy team got more lucky than you.

For Joust videos watch Zelkenon on YouTube. YouTuber thesmagann does enjoyable Clash / Duel / Conquest videos also.

Content for non conquest stuff does exist but I agree there isn't much of it.

Double XP is now up too.

Played a litle bit of Kuzenbo.

His mana costs are high and his cooldowns long...

That's a slight lie, the cd on his 2 is actually quite low when you've maxed it and got decent cdr. Also you can lower the cd on your 1 by taking dmg during your 2. Although I'm aware of the interaction it's not something I do very often but that will probably come with practice.

His one feels kinda worthless. It's okay wave clear but can easily be blocked. In a team fight it is basically worthless. It will only damage the first god it hits and the tiny kappa that pops out is worse than Bastet cats. At least the cats are a huge advantage in the early to mid game. Also the cats slow, the tiny kappa does nothing. This skill needs a slow or maybe even a stun applied to the god it hits.

His ult is actually really good. It's very good control and disrupts the enemy team to a crazy degree. You can single out one god for your team to kill while keeping the rest of the enemy team far away and unable to help.
The constant juggling of the enemy may mean your team misses some abilities/autos but, again, practice should fix that.

I'm torn on his 3. You can only push one person unlike Tyr's fearless. But it is longer and also steerable. Can be used as a decent escape.
I would like to see a change with it. It only has a small chance of occurring I guess but I would like his 3 to do damage as soon as you hit someone one, not just when you push them into a wall or someone else.
A fight had occurred and I was left in a 1v1 with this anubis. We were both low health. I blinked behind him and pushed him into my tower. There were no minions so the tower started hitting him and he died.
I didn't get credit though, because i wasn't able to auto him or push him into a wall before he died, the tower got credit and I only got an assist.

Overall he's pretty fun to play, I'm not sure how much high level play he will get though. Good use of his 2 makes him pretty tanky but his other abilities are going to require a lot of team coordination and his 1 is incredibly lackluster.

Wait, so they reset MMR for casual in Season 4? This shit is unplayable lol.

If I'm honest I'm not 100% sure but I want to say that no, they didn't.

They did reset ranked mmr, also smiteguru reset your mmr on their site but that has no basis on Hi-Rez's metrics.

You're on console though so there is a chance it is different I guess. Also you just got the patch didn't you? There may be having problems they didn't forsee.

The new passive XP gain in Clash has completely changed the mode, I didn't understand how big of a impact it would have from just reading about it... but now having played a match it feels like night and day. It's fights all the time and little to no need to focus on farming or taking into consideration the loss of farm should you fight and die as a result of diving too far for a kill. Getting kills is the only real way to gain a lead now and the reward far outweigh the risks.

Really dislike the change and hope they revert it back to the previous model.

I'm not sure but I felt something changed in terms of matchmaking when S4 was first released on PC rather than today when S4 came out on consoles... I've definitely felt a drop in quality of players since then but wasn't sure if it was just a influx of returning/new players of if they reset the MMR?

Yeah I'm not a fan of the new Clash at all. The map design is worse in my opinion and the XP spooling makes it pretty shit. New phoenix is beyond useless.

Maybe it's time to learn Joust.

Edit: I also hate how gods that rely on their items to be relevant are completely useless in this mode. Hitting level 20 when you're barely completing your 4th item sucks. If Hi-Rez is so intent on having XP spooling in this mode then they need to further increase the gold earned.

Edit 2: Yeah I'm done with Clash. It's just a worse Arena now. I don't think I've ever been more disappointed in Hi-Rez.
