Totally the kind of guy you let on a school flight...

I'm hearing nothing but praise for Chidori, but I kind of dislike her already. A bit too perfect as a character. On the other hand, the white haired Captain needs to have more scenes.

It had a running gag of the boy groping his breasts in the morning whenever he swapped bodies with the girl. I also remember that being the very first thing Taiichi did in Kokoro Connect when he swapped bodies with Iori, which was really misleading since it was like the only instance of the show using that kind of out-of-place sexual situation for the sake of comedy (except for the groin kick scene, but even that made more sense in context).

I never expected "I somehow turned into a girl, so I'd better feel up my breasts" to be an actual anime trope, but it at least looks like it wasn't just an isolated case

Oh, yeah, that's a staple of accidental gender change stories in manga and anime, going back at least to Ranma 1/2 and likely earlier.

I feel like that has happened in every genderswap anime and every gender swap story I've ever encountered.

Guy to female grabs their boobs, girl to guy looks in their pants at their dick.

Who the fuck said that?

Tessa is best.
Excluding Mao of course

Makes sense to me. I'd check out my new rack if I woke up with one. Pretty sure most people would if they switched genders suddenly.

Heh, it's funny how my younger self completely skipped over all that when I watched Ranma.

Anyway, my gripe with this is that it's common enough to be a trope. Regardless of what'd happen if you'd ever find yourself in a genderswap situation, such kinds of titillation are not actually "funny" IMO, and are better left for porn than a freaking drama.

And all this reminds me of that first episode of AnoHana, where Menma was sitting on the MC and "innocently" grinding against him while he got off of that or something. It was a good thing that ended up being the only case of a mild porn scene in the whole show, but that fact also accentuated the WTF factor of that kind of crap being in a drama, for crying out loud.

I wouldn't think of someone checking out their new equipment as titillation unless it goes beyond a quick self fondle or check.

If someone didn't check out their gender-swapped body I'd call bullshit. How those scenes are framed is a different matter but don't cut out a very human reaction entirely.

What's the problem with checking first if you were swapped? I mean, if you are suddenly put in an unfamiliar setting you'd at least look around and make sure you're not going crazy. That's natural to at least be sure that you're of sound mind.

Maturity, bitches.
Has there been one when a male has transferred to a flat chested female body so they don't really notice until they go to scratch their now non existent balls?

Nope, not entirely. Tropes are tools and all, but using it as if it was nothing more than some sort of comedy skit is all kinds of wrong in my book. Mood whiplash ecchi comedy isn't something I like seeing, and I'd rather not have it become standarized as okay in anime.

Also, I begun talking about Your Name, were the MC is seen fondling his breasts every single time he wakes up in the girl's body (save once or twice, I think). That shit isn't "OMG, WTH's going on!", but more like "heheh, booooobies" levels of pandering. It becomes a running gag to the point the girl's little sister remarks upon it and has several sub-skits about how she reacts to those days were her sister acts strange.

That'd actually be a decent subversion for a change.

That's more associated with going to take a piss and realizing something is missing.

That is the exact situation I was thinking of too. They try to grab penis, realize nothing is there and then they look sideways at their mirror on the wall.

Insert yelling and shot of the outside of the bathroom.

You could also have the flat-chested girl try to pass herself as a boy to make things even better in case of doing body swaps on a school/work setting. Otherwise, the MC is likely to be tipped off by his clothes, and most likely being looked at in an odd way as he nonchalantly walks into the men's bathroom.

You have a mirror to admire yourself while pissing?

I haven't seen wasn't able to see Your Name yet but that does sound like it might be shown too often.

Still, the basic trope itself is merely a completely natural reaction most people would have. Unnecessary, repeat use thereof seems to be Your Name's problem rather.

Aqua's VA is a literal goddess.
She's great. As a matter of fact, all of the VA talent is outstanding and sound super natural in a great comedic way. But Kazuma's VA elevates the character sooooo much. He could be one of the worst characters ever, had the VA not been Jun Fukushima. Dat "Kazuma-desu" in between other characters' lines is sublime LOL.

On the other hand up until the twister scene and then especially Lucoa'd shtick being revealed Kobayashi was just a fun dragon family sitcom, so being mad at it for that is perfectly reasonable. The twister scene in particular was disappointing because Kanna's friendship with what's her face up to that point was so cute, but then it got weird, and Lucoa just seems like a lost cause.

kobayashi isn't a misleading anime. when it introduces a character it sets up their expected role pretty clearly. from the first beginning, forehead loli's gag has been almost climaxing at every interaction she has with kanna. personally, i didn't mind this episode because the times they would usually use that annoying gag, instead forehead loli has a nonexaggerated reaction that you might expect from someone interacting with her crush. maybe people have been ignoring the previous interactions because they're so quick, but the intent behind the gag wasn't hidden or subtle in the slightest

It went from cute interactions to sexualizing kids in one episode. That crosses a line and really sours me on a series that I was really enjoying up until this episode.

There's a difference between a fairly standard cartoon indicator of love and a child literally about to fuck another child. Yeah, foreheads reactions allude to climax but it's pretty common visual shorthand for "being overcome with love", and I remember it being used all the time in cartoons I watched when I was a kid. It is something that can be and often is taken as completely innocent.

But two children wanting to fuck each other and only not due to being interrupted is leagues beyond visual shorthand. I mean, I'm not saying that you can't have enjoyed the episode, but I really don't think it's fair to say that the people who didn't should have known better with how much the show escalated here.

Oh good, I see Dragon Maid's next episode is a beach episode.

Rejoice!

It's probably going to be good, judging from the content in the manga. Lots of character building.

Not trying to downplay the scene, but Saikawa didn't want to fuck Kanna.

A lot of positive comments on Chidori after my first impressions and Nintendoman said to watch the show for her. Seems like some people really like Chidori to me!

It was technically the floor, but nevertheless, it's an undeniable fact that Japanese TV corrupts the youngsters.

W-Wow

I initially thought Narag was watching this ironically(????), I didn't for a moment think I'd be watching it eventually. I've seen discussions with nintendoman58 and others on discord along with a lot of fan art around twitter that I thought I'd bite the bullet.

I sort of saw a clip on twitter so I more or less expected the bad 3DCG and I was willing to look beyond that. What I got was a pretty charming little show on anthropomorphized animals with some occasional trivia. Serval is a nice cat, her kindness is almost infectuous, then again, you could immediately pity Kaban-chan when she says:

If animals have human traits, really what makes them different from humans? the ability to make paper planes!

Unless they change it from the manga drastically, expect next week's beach episode of Maidragon to not have any problematic content in it. On the contrary, it actually has some very serious moments for the series. Of course if they combine it with other chapters, all bets are off.

But it's also Maidragon so you're going to see Tohru in a bikini with some serious bouncing.

Personally the episode didn't bother me (not that I was like "Aw fuck yeah, lolis groping each other and getting down and dirty!") but that's moreso that I've become able to watch or interact with media that contains very problematic elements and be able to separate those parts out to enjoy the rest. So it's not like I want or like those parts, hell I could really do without them as well, but moreso that I'm able to disconnect from those sections to enjoy the other sections. I can still identify them and point at them and go "Yeah, that's pretty rough shit" and agree with people and understand that may be past their willingness to separate from the media they consume.

Also this fucking Chidori slander and nonsensical Tessa love. Absolutely disgusting. Chidori is beast mode.

i really wonder what you've been seeing up to this point

nah, you can't admit that it alludes to climax and then say it can be taken as completely innocent. and it's not a standard anything, specifically because it's alluding to that. a standard reaction would be like what happens in this episode with all the blushing and steam

not that it changes your point, but kanna isn't a child despite her looks. her characterization shouldn't lead anyone to think she is, especially not after her introduction.

i think it's perfectly fair. it's funny to me that the reaction a lot of you are having to this episode is how i've been reacting to forehead loli, while i'm fine with his episode that y'all are ready to light your computers on fire over.

Wait hold on, Tohru constantly says that Kanna is still a kid despite being a dragon. Is she actually a thousand-year-old-dragon (trademark)? I mean as you said doesn't change much since foreheads still a kid but it would change how I see Kanna at least.

Konosuba might have some of the best VA work and direction in an anime I've seen besides Rakugo. Like, the voice acting makes the show. These people are putting in work.

I actually liked this episode as much as the last 2 which were maybe the height of the series' comedy. Kazuma's sword situation, the whole lizard runner stuff and some nice emotional moments couched sneakily into a dick joke punchline.

This show is really really good.

Weird having a beach episode with only a subtle amount of fanservice in it, lol. I was expecting much worse than a couple scenes. Well, you have to give the "camera" guys some credit for coming up with a couple interesting angles.
Got some good laughs at the test of courage, but this felt more like a SoL episode than anything else. I'm still want to know where they are going with the story though as they are still introducing characters into the mix. Maybe I'm rushing things along, but I don't want everything to feel extremely rushed by being packed into the final episode.
