Asian-GAF: We're all the same, like Stormtroopers |OT| |AT|

that justice league of china thing is nice, but why are the chinese versions seems chunkier to me?

also chinese lore has better 'heroes' than the asianized versions of dc properties tbh

Ne Zha's adventures and stories alone fascinated me to no ends when I was a child, and that's not even mentioning the big names like Wu Kong, .....plus heroes from romance of three kingdoms, and other ...more fictional and original characters like the ones from the Condor Heroes trilogy, etc.

but.

it's nice, i guess :3

That slipper thread was a mix of humor and horror. I don't think people really understand how dirty their floors are from walking around in their shoes. WTF people.

Have to admit that I had the urge to listen to Got Rice after reading it and I fulfilled that need.

It still bothers me that they wear their shoes on Fresh Off The Boat.

Haven't watched any of this season though

This shoes talk is such a hot topic right now. It's seeping into multiple community threads that I subscribe to.

Only the uncouth wear shoes indoors. Slippers? Okay. Shoes from the outside? Get out of here!

I dunno if it's thread worthy so I'll just put it here.. if someone else wants to start a thread about it feel free.

Last month on Tigerbelly, a podcast featuring comedian Bobby Lee and his best friend Khalyla, Lee spoke about a recent audition he went to read for. The project was a “stoner movie” and the role was a small one with 5 lines. To Lee’s dismay, he ran into actor Steven Yeun there, auditioning for the same part. Lee was pissed Yeun even had to audition – so pissed he wanted to take him outside to yell at him afterwards. Let me tell y’all, I never felt more like Bobby Lee in my life. We are all Bobby Lee in this moment.

Steven Yeun is most known for playing Glenn Rhee, arguably one of the most beloved characters in AMC’s The Walking Dead. After Glenn met his gruesome fate, social media was trending with sad sentiments but also optimism for a bright future in Yeun’s career. Although there is no confirmed truth to the rumors, Yeun as Nightwing in the DCEU franchise is one of the most popular fancasts out there. Why, then, is he standing in line to read for a minor movie role of a mere 5 lines? When asked this by Lee, Yeun’s answer was this: “Dude, I gotta read.” The cold, hard truth. Let’s not beat around the bush – the reason he has to read for these minor roles is not through any fault of his own. It is because Hollywood doesn’t want to give him bigger opportunities.

Smh...shit just makes my blood boil... we argue about bankable Asian American actors ... here we have one right here and he has to audition for a 5 line part.

Yeah, just copy that link and paste it next time someone tries to argue that there are no bankable Asian actors.

I'm so tired of reading threads about China and Trump here. All posters care is that Trump is messing up. No one talks about how shitty the actual One China policy is. No one actually cares about Taiwan. All posters on GAF care is that they can mock Trump some more. No one talks about the Taiwanese and Chinese side of affairs.

Ugh.

I don't think most of them understand or care to find out what it is.

So I've been playing Mafia II.

It's a good game (despite the huge waste of an open-world sandbox) but since it's set in the 40's/50's, it includes the culture and attitudes of the time. And that attitude includes Chinese racism.

There's a part in the story where you deal with the Chinese Triad. So, because you keep company with foul-mouthed gangsters, a lot of the "C" word is thrown around, along with references to their skin colour and eyes.

What is also interesting is that while there are no significant black characters in the story, the ones that do show up are not subject to any racist comments (I never heard the "N" word). There is segregation and racist stereotypes, but nothing terribly explicit.

The kicker is that an Italian-American organization accused the developers of being racist towards Italians.

That's what Mafia 3 is about. A lot of racism against blacks in that game in the narrative sense and mechanical too. I did like the empty open world in Mafia 2. It was really there to add more context to the world and they did a good job of it I think.

That moment you realise you've been conditioned to expect broken English when you see an Asian actor in a Hollywood production >.> I was thrown off when Togusa had a line in the latest Ghost in the Shell trailer.

I really like these cheesy, stupid holidays, and today Meph surprised me at work with chocolate, a rose, and TWO mochas because he knew I'd be working past 10pm. That thread about married people being happy is probably true if your partner is supportive, loving, considerate, and wonderful. Yeah. /cheese

I was having dinner by myself in a little Chinese fast food place. Valentine's Day is definitely a thing here in China, so I paid attention to couples just for the heck of it. I wasn't going to let it get me down. It gave me an idea to send her flowers.

I took out my GPS and ran around to find a flower shop. The flower shop wouldn't do it because it was too far. I ran to the subway and went to her area to find a flower shop. I'm surprised how well Apple Maps work in China even in English. I was able to find another flower shop and have them sent.

I figured I should combine the aggressive and more neutral advice I was given. No point in sitting around waiting. I just haven't figured out how to properly combined the aggressive and neutral advice until last night. Not going to give a fuck. Even if I lose, or she throws the flowers away, I felt really good doing that despite knowing how uncertain things are. Even if I fail, and look back on this years later, I have no regrets.

I feel it is just a matter of time before Trump starts turning his attention to Asians with discriminatory executive orders. What's he going to do after he dealt with Muslims and Mexicans, right? He is always very negative about China too so that's a natural extension to his discriminatory actions. What do you guys think?

This is basically what I've been telling my mom. Sure Trump is only really going after Mexicans and Muslims now, but it's quite obviously only a matter of time before he targets other people. And I have to imagine there are quite a few illegal Asian immigrants too.

Yeah, I think so, too.

Steve Bannon also hates Asians, so.. probably.

It's weird to think that no one would care about what happens to you unless whatever was going to happen to you would eventually happen to them. I feel like you should care regardless of whether or not you're in danger of it happening to you.

But that's going off track a little. It's naive for anyone to think that they're getting out of this unscathed.

Welp. That Dalai Lama thread turned into "it's ok to hate on Chinese" real quick.

The usual suspects too.

Did it? I'm getting the impression people are calling out those students for being thin-skinned. Or at least this is my own evaluation of the situation

Last time I looked in there I think people were upset because the students compared the Dalai Lama to Trump in levels of intolerance, and that while it makes sense from China's point of view it seems weird from the standard US point of view of the Dalai Lama because most see him as a Gandhi sort of guy.

And apparently they were using inclusion and safe spaces and whatnot as the justification for not having him there, but the unified China thing doesn't seem to fly over well here so some people may have been annoyed by that.

I don't know enough about China's political structure (past like 1956, anyway) to put the rest of the pieces together.
