PS4 finally has the library strength I always hoped for it

I'm really enjoying my PS4 these days. I can't even keep up with all the games coming out for it. And just from January to June, I have Nioh, Nier Automata, Horizon (which I am loving), Crash Trilogy, Gravity Rush 2, Yakuza 0, Persona 5 and the Uncharted side DLC as Sony console exclusives. But then I've also been getting Resident Evil 7 and we have Yooka-Laylee coming up. And the past few months had The Last Guardian, FFXV (which I didn't like very much but I appreciate its contribution to the library) and the typical EA/Ubi entries.

I feel like people can finally put to rest any complaints about the PS4 only having ports or not really having exclusives worth playing.

I'm liking it as much as I liked my PS3 and PS2 now. And it looks like it will only get more better games as the install base grows. :)

Anyone else feel the same?

Was looking at my collection a couple days ago and had this same thought, it's finally a robust library and it's looking to get better this year.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
For real, the PS4 is in a really good place with lots of good games and exclusives.

If you don't have a PC or a system that has access to some of its more underrated titles like, I dunno, CounterSpy, it's been this way since 2014.

I'm always comparing to the PS2 at its height. Which is arguably an unreasonable expectation. Development costs have risen, many B tier studios have been shuttered or moved onto PC and mobile development. For me there's just not enough variety in the PS4 library, even with titles like Gravity Rush 2.

It took longer than I would have expected, but yes, PS4's exclusive library surpassed Nintendo WiiU's overall exclusives. Hopefully, they can keep up the releases.

This is the PS brand in a nutshell with every new gen, slow start strong finish. PS have never failed me and will forgive almost everything (PSN outage %*$%#) along as the games keeps coming.

Said it before, I'll say it again. The exclusive lineup the PS4 is boasting is legitimately making me regret buying an Xbox more and more with every new release.

This is understandable, I dont think the PS4 has a really strong library yet, but it does have some really interesting titles that you wouldnt find anywhere else (Nier, the digimon games, gravity rush)

I feel they could have done a bit better by making those console exclusives PS4 only exclusives... But yea, the PS4 library has just started to build up nicely

The games were always going to come, but for me the notable improvement was with the PS4 Pro. I'm really digging the increased visual fidelity on my 4K TV and improved performance all while not sounding like it's going to take off into space.

I think the console has officially achieved a strong catalogue of exclusives in recent times. Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, DriveClub, Nioh, Ratchet & Clank, Rez Infinite, Gravity Rush 2 (plus the superior version of the first game), Yakuza 0, The Last Guardian, Until Dawn, Resogun and Odin Sphere Leifthrasir off the top of my head. The system has really come into its own in 2017.

It was always going to come, people who complain in the first year should know this by now, it can take a few years for the fruits of their labour to show, but it always does. It's why I always have to get a playstation.

I got mine on January and I have already beaten the whole Uncharted series (finally), Ratchet & Clank PS4, Bloodborne, and currently playing The Last Guardian and Dragon Quest: Builders. It's a totally different feeling for me than with PS3, which I really didn't like that much for some reason.

i mean... not like there was ever doubt a (non portable) PS console would deliver on content 4 years in

Yes I agree.

I was pretty critical of the PS4 library for the past few years but 2017 seems to really be the year where the library has picked up huge steam.

This may or may not be related to the fact that the GOTG will Persona 5 release in the coming months

I've been enjoying it since Resogun, lol. But yeah, it really has grown to be very diverse and well rounded. I just wish Sony had a Halo-like competitive 4v4 Arena FPS.

I always knew what I was getting into when I joined Team PS4.

Japanese games, Western Games, Indies, 1st party and VR. It was always a winning combination!

Indeed, the PS4 had kind of a slow start but I'd say that the whole situation snowballed after Bloodborne release.

The console is now in a great place without signs of stopping anytime soon, a great time to get one for those interested and still on the fence.

It really does have a great library of software. Overall PS4 is a fantastic system, surprisingly I think Sony's first party is its weakest link thus far, but I hope that changes for the better after Horizon.

Yup, I went from fairly ambivalent to completely happy with its library in the past couple years. More and more of the types of games I love have been popping up and it's glorious. It feels like mid-tier and smaller games have finally regained their footing in the gaming landscape, and indies are better than ever, especially with initiatives like Limited Run Games and localizations that feel like true labours of love. I've had my issues and it's hard to top the PS1 and 2 but so far, the PS4 beats the PS3 handily for me. I feel like this is an era of games we're going to look back on fondly across all platforms, regardless of what you're into personally.

Anyone else feel the same?

Absolutely.

Whether it's Japanese or Western games, AAA or indie, first or third party, "gritty" or "cartoony," in a plethora of genres... the PS4 has got you covered, fam.

Fantastic machine.

EDIT: beaten with a stick by JordanN :p

There are too many games in a short frame of time. There's not time to play everything. I think they could have scheduled the releases a lot better.

I'm so glad that Japanese games are back.
Me too. I honestly didn't realize how much I missed them, but man, aside from Nintendo I barely played Japanese games last gen. It feels like a breath of fresh air now.

2007: PS has no games lol
2017: PS has too many games lol

it gave me my favourite game of all time Bloodborne.
no matter what it will always have a space in my nostalgia heart now.

NiOh is another absolutely wonderful game.

excited about the future

Yeah I just recently got one on Black Friday and only a month or so ago started playing it and I already have a solid mix of games, including going out of my comfort zone a little bit playing some fighting games and shooting games. Very excited for releases this year too.

These months alone have and will have Nioh, Nier, Horizon, Persona 5 and even Crash in June. My wallet is hurting and I haven't even counted Mass Effect, which I'll get day one for sure.

I kinda wish it had a few more mid tier games like Ratchet I can dive in and out of. I like the sit for an evening and absorb a huge game, but really outside of very arcadey Psn games there aren't many drop in drop out games.

Oh for sure. It's finally starting to get the kind of games I'm in to, like Bloodborne, Overwatch, Doom, etc. so I've been enjoying it a lot more lately. Not quite as much as the PS2 but definitely more than the PS3

Japanese games have come back strong, Western developers are making more games in line with what I like, and they finally made a controller that isn't a complete abomination

There's a reason I bought it now. I don't like AAA western corefare much. Nor do I like Sony's western first party efforts much, up to and including what Naughty Dog puts out.

Still, through to Persona 5 in April, with the only title truly reaching back being Bloodborne, I have a slew of titles I am getting for the system. Some of them I could get elsewhere but TLG pushed me to get the Slim instead of upgrading my aging PC this past holiday, and I'd rather not play P5 on my superhot, super load PS3.

I already have something like 6-7 titles. I'll have 10+ by the end of the near future. So even if Japan slows down or I can get most things on Switch going forward, it is going to have been a successful device for me. Something I couldn't say about PS3.

Still, took 3 years to get there.

There are actually plenty of mid-tier games, you're just not looking hard enough :p

I can recommend Dragon Quest Builders, very fun and you can play it in short bursts if you want. Nioh is another that you don't need to play for hours on end at a time. I'm sure others can recommend more good mid-tier games.

Same here. I was pretty down on this whole console generation until a couple of months ago. I know competition is good and all, but having a runaway lead is also good in its own right. With a large user base, developers can afford to take more chances on less than sure things. We'll probably never have another PS2 on our hands, but I'll take this.

Agreed. And having folders where I can neatly arrange my titles has been a game changer. I remember when it was a sloppy bar of titles that constantly shifted depending on what I used. Now I've got my JRPG folder, my WRPG follder, Resident Evil, Souls, and Naughty Dog. Having that organization has made a big difference in getting me to play stuff on PS4.
