Nintendo flirted with a Hyrule Wars game, alien invasions, and Biker Link before BOTW

I would be down for a medieval alien invasion, but man those alternative Links make me want to vomit. I never knew you could make Link look like a complete Douche.

Hey, if they wanna do a Zelda X Metroid I'm down. That'd actually be a pretty cool crossover, while settings are different the two series are similar in a lot of ways that could make a crossover really fun:
-Silent protagonist
-Heavy emphasis on exploration
-Lots of puzzle solving (moreso Zelda, but still)
-Ganon riding Ridley...
-Link and Samus have both been in sidescrolers, 3D adventure games, and top-down games (Super Mario RPG counts for Samus)

Smoosh the worlds together, fill it full of fanservice, and it'd be a blast. They could even go retro and have it be 16-bit versions of the characters with Link's sections being topdown and Samus' being sidescroller.

But it is extremely wacky to see Mario walking around the real world, just so outside the realm of what was expected from a new Mario game.

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
Yikes, I'm glad the aliens thing didn't happens.

Way too outlandish for this series.

The guitar Link art and manga panel with Ganondorf(?) with the Metallica-like logo makes me want a Zelda rhythm game in the EBA/Ouendan or Theatrhythm style.

Also, little girl gets her brain eaten in that, too. But Majora's Mask is creepy and disturbing like that.

Actually thinking about it.
The game was started a little after 2012/2013, no?
Hyrule Warriors is probably the Hyrule wars concept expanded.
The biker has also been used for MK8 as DLC.
The only unused idea that I see is the Alien invasion which could very well be materialized in BotW's DLC.
And I can see them doing Zelda Maker where you make something more cohesive than just dungeons after dungeons like in SMM.
For all we know they had this in the oven while making SMM and couldn't quite make it work for Zelda (schedule or gameplay related) and it's actually coming.

When Aonuma said he told the ALBW team to redefine 2D Zelda with their next game, he just meant to use BOTW's physics engine.

And I'm okay with that.

I'm glad they experimented because if you can it'll make the final version great, but I am not a fan of any of their canned ideas lol.

Though it'd be interesting to have a Zelda music game where link and Zelda are in a band together. And ganondorf is a douchebag a-la John Lennon and breaks the band up.

Metallica Ganondorf being an actual thing they entertained for at least a moment sounds just so insane for me.

At least it looks interesting, that third photo is just dreadful. Thank god they didn't go with it, it's just straight up bad.
