I like this part:

As reporters began to hear about the Oval Office meeting, Priebus interrupted his Friday afternoon schedule to dedicate more than an hour to calling reporters off the record to deny that the outburst had actually happened, according to a senior White House official.

Getting around Reince calling you off-the-record by quoting unnamed source saying he was making off-the-record calls!

Such a WEAK POTUS!

Iran and North Korea have prime opportunities to test him

The US is likely the most disorganized at the executive level it has been in decades

WH confirms, via pool reporter, that @POTUS has signed the revised travel ban EO. No press coverage

How long before it's blocked by the courts?

I want Obama to do a press conference or something

The less he says the better. Trump's kind is not a rational fact based kind. All a response will do is add fuel to imaginary fires.

How long before it's blocked by the courts?

Is the hope that people won't rally against it if there isn't a presser? Does he really think that everyone relies on conveniently digestible msm bits for their news?

”If Joe Manchin is the answer, we're doomed," said Walt Auvil, an attorney in Parkersburg and a member of the state Democratic executive committee.

”There's no future in my mind for this ‘Republican lite,'" said Chris Regan, an attorney in Wheeling considered an up-and-coming progressive in the state. ”If there is going to be a Democratic resurgence in West Virginia and other states that have gone red, it's going to be as a party that articulates its views and takes the fight to Republicans, not me-too-ism."

”Your new West Virginia Democrat is going to be aligned with a Bernie Sanders type," said Shawn Fluharty, a left-leaning Democratic member of the state House of Delegates, ”and not a Joe Manchin type."

Well if you want to lose Manchin then primary him.

I would love for there to be some grassroots liberal resurgence (or, what's the word for a resurgence that's happening for the first time?) but is there any reason to believe that a substantial-enough progressive population even exists in that state?
There's a presser going on with Sessions, Kelly and Tillerson.

Tillerson at a press conference?!

So um....is the EO tomorrow going to get rejected by the courts again too?

My guess is no. They'd probably either have to rely almost entirely on the statements outside the executive order about it being a muslim ban, which is pretty unusual, or use the same arguments that conservatives used to stop the Obama immigration order.

But that's just a guess. It'll certainly be a harder argument in any case. Maybe a few parts of it will be rejected instead of the entire thing this time.

I don't think he's wrong, but it takes a short term hit for a long term gain that might not even pay off. But appeasing conservative voters isn't much of a payoff or sound stategy either -- take Texas, for example. Ralph Yarborough was replaced by the more conservative Bentsen, the seat flipped to the Republicans under Kay Bailey Hutchinson, and it is now held by Ted Cruz.

The only thing that probably keeps a guy like Manchin from flipping is that he'd be at the bottom of the seniority lists, modern day voters and politicians hate party switchers, and the Republican party is bugfuck crazy.

I don't have any numbers on hand right now and I'm about to head to class, but iirc WV's turnout even of registered voters is really low. It's probably not a thing that can work but that's probably the best possibility for a non-RINO getting elected there, to just try and tap into all the workers who stopped voting. It would help if they had a name as good as Jim Justice :p

My job site is being ICE raided or something and Homeland Security is here. Definitely not going to finish on time if they wipe the whole site, the construction industry needs the labor and honestly the immigrants work harder than most.

Officials also attempted to lay out a more robust national security justification for the order, claiming that it was needed because 300 people who entered the country as refugees were the subject of counterterrorism investigations.

The officials, though, declined to say from which countries those people came, and they declined to detail the people's current immigration status.

Seems to me that since they actual gave a justification, it would be easier for a legal team to argue against the ban now.

so the EO states that part of the reason for banning Iranians is because Iran "has been linked to support" for al Qaeda

(not a photoshop)

Looks like a scene from a movie where Donald Trump is playing all the roles.

In fact, a movie about his campaign/election/presidency where he does play all the roles would be so freaking amazing. He could probably be talked into doing that if he's buttered up enough.

Was Russia always a conservative cesspool even when they were communist?

Russia's always been very socially conservative, the legacy of keeping serfdom around a lot longer than most of the rest of Europe. The Soviet Union was good on some things (namely abortion and widely-available childcare for working mothers), but bad on others (representation of non-whites in the hierarchy was token at best and LGBT was seen as capitalist decadence).

Justices send transgender bathroom case back to lower courts
The Supreme Court may eventually hear the case of a transgender teen who wants to be able to use the boys’ bathrooms at his Virginia high school, but it will not do so this term. In the wake of a February 22, 2017, document from the U.S. Departments of Education and Justice that revoked the Obama-era guidance on which a lower court had relied to rule in the teen’s favor, the justices today sent the case back to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit for reconsideration in light of the new guidance.

The 4th Circuit’s decision had relied heavily on a 2015 opinion letter from the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights which concluded that, if schools opt to separate students in restrooms and locker rooms on the basis of their sex, “a school generally must treat transgender students consistent with their gender identity.” But, on February 22, the Trump administration revoked that guidance. In letter briefs filed at the court’s request last week, both the Gloucester County School Board and G.G., as the student is known, told the court to forge ahead with the case. They argued that, although the first question that the court had agreed to review involved what deference, if any, should be given to the Obama-era guidance, the second question before the justices was G.G.’s contention that the board’s bathroom policy violates Title IX, a federal law prohibiting discrimination in schools, and the regulations that the federal government has issued pursuant to the law – a question that is unrelated to the guidance.

What the fuck does he have to do to go below 40%

His policies have to start his own voters. Higher cost of goods, more expensive healthcare/no healthcare at all, etc. I'm not sure if the inevitable no-resurgence-of-coal-and-factory-jobs will be hurt him enough or not; his voters could just be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and give him another years to get that done, but who knows.

Convert to Islam.

I'm convinced that "President" Trump is deliberately trying to get himself thrown out of office (but not INTO prison). So it's a weird balancing act for him.

I think there's a good chance he's realized that he's trapped in the worst job ever. He thought it was going to be a kick back job telling people what to do, but instead, he's finding out every day is a crisis and no one outside his circle is taking him seriously. His one "success" was his speech that he had to read someone else's words, and work hard at doing so - and that should be the easiest part of the job. The weekly vacations to Florida show he just wants his old life back, especially at his age where he should just be enjoying his grandchildren.

The two things that give me relief while this fuck is in office is:

1) He's miserable. His life is clearly worse than before he ran.

2) Every scandal, and every day of this shit leads me to hope that he won't run again. Claim a health scare and he can say he never lost, while claiming how much better he would be than the next president.

What the fuck does he have to do to go below 40%

It's not even the second month. It takes a lot for who once supported someone to recognize they were wrong.

Also, he hasn't really done anything that has affected the reason a lot people voted for him, jobs. So there's a lot of wait and see still.

House: The NRCC recently unveiled the first 10 members of its Patriot Program to defend potentially vulnerable members. This week, their counterparts at the DCCC released the names of the first 19 members of its own Frontline incumbent defense program. Below is the list of members, as well as Trump's 2016 performance in their seats:
AZ-01: Tom O'Halleran, 48-47

CA-07: Ami Bera, 41-52

CA-24: Salud Carbajal, 37-57

CA-36: Raul Ruiz, 43-52

CA-52: Scott Peters, 36-58

CT-05: Elizabeth Esty, 46-50

FL-07: Stephanie Murphy, 44-51

FL-13: Charlie Crist, 46-50

IA-02: Dave Loebsack, 49-45

IL-10: Brad Schneider, 33-62

IL-17: Cheri Bustos, 47.4-46.7

MN-08: Rick Nolan, 54-39

NJ-05: Josh Gottheimer, 49-48

NH-01: Carol Shea-Porter, 48-47

NH-02: Annie Kuster, 46-49

NV-03: Jacky Rosen, 48-47

NV-04: Ruben Kihuen, 45-50

NY-03: Tom Suozzi, 46-52

NY-18: Sean Maloney, 49-47
Many of the 12 Democrats in Trump seats are on the list, but not all. Missing from the list are MN-01's Tim Walz (53-38); MN-07's Collin Peterson (62-31); PA-17's Matt Cartwright (53-43); and WI-03's Ron Kind (49-45).

Kind of crazy not to include Cartwright or Kind, but I guess they think they're strong enough incumbents.

The NRCC list:

● House: On Wednesday, the NRCC announced the first 10 members of its Patriot Program, which is designed to help defend potentially vulnerable incumbents. Below is the list of members, as well as Trump's 2016 performance in their seats:

CA-21: David Valadao, 40-55

CA-25: Steve Knight, 44-50

CA-49: Darrell Issa, 43-51

FL-18: Brian Mast, 53-44

MN-02: Jason Lewis, 46.5-45.3

NY-19: John Faso, 51-44

NY-22: Claudia Tenney, 55-39

PA-08: Brian Fitzpatrick, 48.2-48.0

TX-23: Will Hurd, 46-50

VA-10: Barbara Comstock, 42-52

Most of these members hold seats Trump lost or only narrowly won. Faso and Tenney's inclusion on this list is a bit more surprising, though the GOP may be worried that Trump's gains in upstate New York may be temporary. Tenney is also a notoriously weak fundraiser, and the NRCC may be hoping to boost her early to avoid any problems. Mast's presence is also a bit strange, since Trump decisively won his South Florida seat and Mast won this open seat by a convincing 54-43 last year.

Hayden: Trump ‘Forgot That He Was President,’ Could See Wiretapping Proof

The former director of the CIA said Monday that President Trump could simply demand proof that his phones had been tapped from the intelligence community, and that perhaps Trump “just for a moment forgot that he was President,” in making the claim without proof.
“It looks as if the President just for a moment forgot that he was President,” Hayden continued. “Why didn’t he simply use the powers of the presidency to ask the acting director of national intelligence, the head of the FBI, to confirm or deny the story he apparently read from Breitbart the evening before?”

“President Trump, in order to clear this up, could he demand to see this? Again, it would be unprecedented, but we’re in unprecedented circumstances," Hayden said.

The only issue where he consistently polls positively is the economy. And jobs can be related to immigration related issues where people (wrongly) view that those nasty brown people are stealing their jobs. But I pressed send before my other thought which was -- he's also delivering on a "Muslim ban", which is why people voted for him!
