Season 2.5 balance patch announced for Street Fighter V

A comprehensive list of balance changes for the upcoming 2.5 patch have been posted at Capcom Unity (link). The change-list include increasing the input window for charge moves, normalizing invincibility for DP moves across characters with such moves, the removal of the jump-back option select for teching throws, numerous buffs and nerfs, and other changes. The patch itself is scheduled for the end of April, but no specific date is given.

Hey everyone – I hope you’ve all been enjoying Season 2 and Kolin!

As you may all know, the Street Fighter V Season 2 update has been out now for a few months. During that time, we at Capcom have been analyzing match data to see how characters were faring and if any additional changes were needed.

Although we are mostly pleased with the results of that data, we do feel that some further adjustments need to be made to ensure the cast feels that much more balanced.

As you’ll see, our goal is not to weaken the stronger cast members, but to strengthen those who we felt weren’t faring as well as would like to see.

We feel that with these adjustments, we should see a lot more variety as players will be able to specialize in the characters they feel are fun, while also feeling empowered. That said, expect matches to be a bit more challenging as the balance between the cast will become that much tighter.

Also, I’m happy to announce these balance updates will be coming at the end of April.

Shitty changes / non changes for the most part (Except for the jump OS, glad it's gone)

Yeah Arcade mode is clearly part of the balance.

Eh...not really, lol.

New moves, several new animations. Lots of these changes are going to shift things around.

Also, Cammy got an airthrow.

Boxer got away ok. Only nerfed his health. Urien got hit though lol.
I mean, he did, but in ways that make sense & aren't terrible. I'm actually okay with the Urien changes.

That said, the universal charge move change could screw up some of the timing for my combos. But if I recall, it may be reverting charges to Season 1 (or close to it).

Did you not read the patch notes? Do you understand how altering a few moves can completely change the gameplan of a character, both in terms of viability and matchups?

Lucky as shit; I can't believe the comment associated with it, too. Thought they'd at least have other adjustments like her dumb j.LK or the fact that her EX command grab passes through fireballs for some reason, but no.

Balrog barely got touched, too. Seems they want to keep the strong characters strong, but I wonder if they're giving the others enough to keep up.

At least Urien got messed with, necessarily.

I feel like Alex could have used a bit more, but the health buff might be pretty clutch considering other characters lost some health. Glad they didn't go too crazy with the nerf bat with Urien, though them saying Laura is performing in line with their expectations is a bit annoying lol.

Combo breaker!

This is going to be interesting. I want Ryu to be great again. :D

I'll keep learning Urien, though, but hopefully my old main becomes stronger.

For context: I'm very new and still suck at the game, but I definitely felt that Ryu was weaker post 2.0.

Would have been nice to see this get worked out in the time between CPT Grand Finals 2016 and CPT first event 2017, but looks like good changes.

By the way, Jump OS being gone is a good buff for Laura / Mika, and also for chars like Cammy and Balrog.

Cammy is going to be ridiculous this season :x

How is Laura supposed to compete with Guile without better ways around fireballs? His V-Skill > her ex elbow. Her walkspeed is trash so walking and blocking gets you nowhere, jumping is obviously a bad idea.

I like how after Xian's dominant Ibuki display at Final Round XX, the only change she got was fixing an input flaw which now makes her even better.

Nice to see some minor Juri buffs but still waiting for her to have a breakout.

a counter, couching grab and air headbutt. Sounds sweet, looks like we'll see more character diversity. Nash is back?

Its best if they don't nerf characters based on the results of one singular tournament. Also there was only 3 Ibukis in that entire top 64 of final round.

Did they fix the bug yet where Ibuki's signature moves, the sliding neck breaker and triple spin kicks, were left out of the game?

Have they replaced Ken's bananas with hair yet?

Late April lmao

Make Alex's overhead faster. Also labeling s.mp as one of his KEY long range attacks makes me realize capcom doesn't actually play alex or get advice from people who do

I mean if they're signature you should at least know their names no?

But Guile's V-Skill is hard to deal with for many other characters; how comes Laura gets such a clear answer? How is Mika supposed to compete with Guile, then?

So Alex's nerfs to his normals and slash elbow were bullshit just like we said they were.

I'm also shaking my head at Urien having more health than Alex prior to this patch.

F.A.N.G has literally never been stronger!

It became abundantly clear at the start of S2 that they have next to no idea what they're doing when it comes to balance.

As a Cammy player, I am frankly surprised she did not get nerfed back a little. Her Season 2 MP buffs are so good.

And they even gave her back the air throw!

Alex and urien are the same height but urien weighs more so it kinda makes sense

Urien

Crouching MK
Advantage on block changed from +2F to -2F

EX Chariot Tackle
Increased the disadvantage on block from 0F to -2F

hahahaha eat shit urien, fucking thank you capcom

At least Mika can slide under them to make space. Or her body splash to make his following AA's/Flash kick whiff or a charged st.HK or apparently her heavy peach. (Just going by what I saw Fuudo do against Du tbh)

It's another option for her when she didn't have many. Should she just have to hold a 7-3 MU and rest easy or give her a decent option to make it a 6-4? lol

I mean it sucks that theres only one person who plays him (who's like big with him) and they can't get info from him anyway

Especially since they deleted the tech he came up with him lol

All good changes, I wonder how the Zangief counter work though, what kind of screwed up hurtbox does it have to only work against horizontally-angled attacks (and does it really only work against... kicks? seems arbitrary)
