Yeah, it's not Noctis, but I would **almost** do unthinkables to obtain a 5* lineup like that. $500 could have gone so much worse. That's probably among the best "didn't get Noctis" sets of rainbows I've seen in quite awhile.

Good lord. I went out for birthday drinks. Please don't bankrupt yourselves. I spent $40 on Fire Emblem orbs last night and kinda felt bad ... not that I would attribute malice to Gumi, but I feel like people are having much shittier luck this time around. I think the general rule is, even if you're going to whale for a base 5*, don't do it on a banner where there are two of them if you're not happy having the alternate. :/

Good to see you could finally beat him. Here is the team I've been using to farm the event with consistency. You can swap Rain for your WoL, he is much better actually (sorry couldn't make a direct link for some reason):

RNG can still fuck you up, but I've been able to do well without much problem. The worst character is easily Rain, but I still use him because of his Leadership while Refia can keep healing. I'll start using WoL to prevent further headaches now.
The next vault key set from story content will feature light shield equip materia and a light shield that offers 38 def and +30% ele res vs fire, lightning and ice.

Why? Seems like you're trading the ability to FB for a (possibly) DC'd Curaja. Is it just the ability to basically ensure that you have a break available?

WoL breaks every turn.
Refia DC Curaja every turn and reapply Barfira when necessary.
Cecil Curaja/Focus every turn.
Cloud of Darkness Barfira the first turn then Return every turn.
Noctis Warp Strike every turn.
WoL and Cecil don't exclude each other, an argument can be made about him being more important than Cecil because the full break is definetly the most important skill in this challenge.

Got my first thancred TM and a minfilia (and three 3* moogles of her TM). At this rate I am easily expecting three or four more than red TM's before this is done.

Don't you have CoD? People should not waste Jeweled Ring on Noctis.

Because she has Return (AoE ailment heal).
Put Barfira and Jeweled ring on her. Use Barfira on the first turn, then use Return for the rest of the fight.
That and:
Turn 1 full break.
Turn 2 provoke
You win.
Wol for this trial is the superior tank
Err, so it's better to lose a tiny bit of damage to prevent paralysis than it is to use an entire unit for the sole purpose of curing it? Maybe that can work for some teams, but I'd rather not. Cecil and Noctis have my two rings, then Ling Refia and Yun are all immune, so it's really just the friend that could muck things up.
I don't have Ling nor Yun so I couldn't even formulate a strategy with them in mind, your team is factually more efficient than mine lol.

But that supposes using Cecil AND WoL in the same party... for F2P, I see it, but I've got to be missing something. Since you and Valentus are on the same page, I clearly AM missing something. I had birthday shots, so I'm gonna ask a dumb question.
Is Yun, Ling, Cecil, Marie, Refia, friend Noctis worse than using WoL subbed in for Cecil? Because I just don't see where WoL shines if you've got other breakers?
Yeah I definitely lucked out with what's good for this fight. Even have Marie but she couldn't hang. Double Yun when a friend is up is just beautiful.

Can we think of anything that involves a double Olive chain? Would love to farm ELT instead of PRO, and I've got one Olive and one Yun. I just can't chain for shit and I play defensively all the time, hence my fascination with Marie.
For someone like me, that has no Ling, Yun, Marie or even Olive, this is pretty much the best team composition I could come up with. For F2P, it's also more realistic to expect them having Cecil, CoD and WoL than these other guys. Note my team composition has Refia, she is a must with DC.
As I said early, I'm not implying WoL should take Cecil spot, they work better together. What Valentus meant is, WoL is more important for this kind of team because he is the one responsible for the breaks AND is beefy as fuck.
With this in mind, this is honestly the best possibly poor's man team possible to face this challenge:
CoD for first turn Barfira (crafted) and Return every other turn
WoL for the breaks/possibly provokes when you have the chance
Cecil for the Curajas and Focus, he will cover all the time too
Refia for DC curajas, arises and barfiras (she will be with carbuncle)
Firion for the damage, Fin Briar every turn
Friend Noctis/Olive/Yun as the other source of damage
This is a very realistic team composition as they are mostly 3* (with WoL and Refia as exception). The thing is, everyone should have around 5k HP, DC is a must on Refia, DW is recommended for WoL (but not a must), another DC is recommended for Cecil (but not a must). CoD must have one Jeweled Ring too.
That's pretty much my team, but I use Noctis instead of Firion and Rain instead of WoL (which is not a good idea, I'll bench him).
It might work, but you'll need different chainers. So far, Rixa linked a video with 2 Chizuru, 2 Firion and 2 Olive 1-shotting ELT as well. Yun won't be ideal here as he only chains well with himself.
Yesterday I was struggling and I thought about using Luka, unfortunately mine is only level 1. Then I saw someone using CoD for pretty much the same reason (except she doesn't heal while taking care of the paralysis) and I finally could farm ELT consistenly.
The only problem I see using Luka instead of CoD is her lower natural elemental resistances, how is yours doing against Ifrit? if she dies as much as my Rain was dying, then my Refia wouldn't be able to do her job properly and I would have more difficulty than I should.
She does fine. I have the minerva bustier on her though, so I can see your elemental dilemma. Now with WoL in my rotation with Cecil, she doesn't really take that much damage. I plan to replace her with Y'shtola though. Rain was a real pain in the ass trying to cover Cecil(or anybody), so replacing him with WoL(Thanks Val) really made things a lot smoother.

NOW I get it. Yeah, WoL is a straight upgrade over Rain all the time. Seriously -- his cover is more trouble than it's worth, although it totally fits his personality, so I'm okay with it.

until Ifrit decides to start resisting my breaks one after the other, I've been having bad luck all day.
WoL has Sentinel(Chance to protect one ally (30%) Damage mitigation (50%) to self) and Rain has jack shit. So Rain just taking up straight damage and then he dies and has to re apply goddamn buffs for his ass.
You running two breakers?

There's a 9% chance per run (30% * 30%) of Ifrit resisting both of the same type of break through 2 breakers on Turn 1. If that happens with an ATK break and Ifrit decides to Vulcan Blast twice on his opening turn, there goes that run.
Had that happen to me on back to back runs this evening, which was highly annoying.
So, once every 11 runs, give or take RNG (and RNG in this game **loves** to get "stuck"), you're going to drop a run on Turn 1 (short of RNGensus blessing you with a light attack round from Ifrit).
Oh.
Thanks Gumi for adding the break resist for Global.... it's not like Japan had 6 star WoL and Orlandu.
