The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ releases 17 Mar 2017 for the Switch

They already know. We've been compiling a list of known bugs over at the BoI subreddit and have sent them to Nicalis.

Tyrone has mentioned that people over at the BoI subreddit are their best bug testers.

Awesome :) Didn't realize it was such an active community over there. I'll have to check it out.

So note to self:
Sad bombs + brimstone + curse of the tower = 10fps. Brimestone itself seems relatively taxing with some slowdowns here and there, most of it however seems to be on curse of the dark rooms/floors.

I am new to BoI - its been a lot of fun so far, but I noticed yesterday when I was playing every game I started put me in a the first room with a button on the floor and would spawn a bunch of enemies and each time the timer reaches zero more come. However prior to yesterday each game involved moving room to room until finding the boss and progressing to lower levels.

Anyone know why every new game I launched yesterday was the same single room with a button that spawned enemies? There were a couple other rooms but only for item collection purposes.

Also, I unlocked Azazel (sp?) but when I select him to paly he has no attacks? There is certainly a lot of mystery and things to explore/discover in this game. I love finding new items that I have no idea what they do and launching them at the last moment hoping for the best. It has led to some interesting things.

You accidentally selected Greed Mode. Go back to normal mode for the main game.

Azazel has a charge attack. Hold down the button until you see his cheeks glow red and then release the button.

Hmm, just beat the daily challenge and had the game crash. Attempting to look at the daily run also causes the game to crash. Restarted the console and it still occurs.

Anyone else?

So for any guys in the EU wondering if the process of getting the game from the us store is hard: it's not!

Bought a couple of $20 gift cards (digital) from amazon US. Changed my nintendo account region to usa. Entered the gift card codes, bought the game, and everything is working as expected :)

Can't recommend the game enough. If you're into dungeon crawlers, rougelikes, rougelites and whatnot, BUY IT!

Ah, I see. Thanks for letting me know. I don't even know how that mode is enabled so I must have accidentally done it.

Yeah, it's crazy how it does that. I'm not a huge fan of poop jokes and other humor like that, but a lot of the wittier, irreverent things really crack me up. Even the poop. I like the art style though, and love how Isaac's appearance changes throughout each run.

I was also raised Roman Catholic (and have a genuine interest in the stories, people and images that come with it), so I'm a huge fan of a lot of the religious references.

After a while, the poop stuff doesn't even really register any more. Hell, when you're just one penny shy of something you want in the shop, you'll be thrilled to see a room full of poop!

Interesting why is that?

Somewhat spoilery:

Until you unlock the polaroid and the negative you've yet to actually reach a final floor. The end bosses you're facing now will just become standard bosses when you do. The first goal should be to get both as fast as possible and then actually take down the bosses on hard.

ohhh cool, thanks. I guess I'll give it a go then on normal. not like I can even make it past stage 3 on hard without dying so why not lol.

I feel like I'm not progressing at all. I bought this Saturday morning and have put a good few hours in. Maybe 4 or 5. I've gotten like 3 floors deep.

Now, I'm old. I'm nearing 40 and I sucked at games in my prime, so shit reflexes aren't helping. I'm hearing dudes saying they
[killed mom/spoiler] after like 3 plays and I'm just thinking maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm clearly doing a bit better than when I first played it, but I'm a bit concerned I haven't gotten further.
Some runs are way harder than others. The randomness is a factor.

I can easily destroy
mom
in one run if I get great items then immediately lose in the next run on the 2nd floor depending on what items I get or don't get.

To those I was chatting with a few pages back: this game is perfect for super-short/micro sessions. If you quit mid-level the game saves your progress precisely where you were at the time. Unlike Shovel Knight where you can lose 80% of a level if you close the software or Zelda where you need longer sessions to get the most out of it.

Exactly what I did, except I made a whole new Nintendo account to keep my 'US' stuff on there, and so that I don't lose any of my remaining change/credit.

Yeah, Binding of Isaac seems totally worth it.

How did you get the digital cards? I tried buying them from Amazon US and it wouldn't let me buy them.

I used PlayAsia initially but they were out of stock, then I used "PC Game Supply" .com who seem pretty damn legit and sent me the code immediately - just make sure you activate/verify your account before you try to buy anything or they'll cancel the order.

I got a $50 card from them and bought Isaac with that, now I have $10 left over, and conveniently enough there are three excellent indie games on there for $9.99. I just don't know which one to buy D:

1. Is this game coming to Europe just in digital version?
2. Do you know which languages are included in European version? I've seen that US version includes ENG/JP

Thanks.

I'm still waiting on a $50 code from Playasia, but I ended up buying from PCgamesupply and I guess I'll just use the $50 on another game instead :p

Game is a pretty decent port so far, the buttons take a little to get used to walking, a lot harder on the thumb than a d-pad.. I'd pay for a Joycon with an actual d-pad instead tbh

Just a heads up, today's daily run is super easy. It's on hard mode and there are no item rooms but there is a 1-up mushroom in the secret room on the second floor and it only goes to Mom.

I hope I got the stickers. I pre ordered with Amazon and it was delayed to ship until tomorrow I was hoping to be playing during my lunch break tomorrow :(

I will let you know cause I was in same boat mine is out for delivery.

edit: You should be good, mine has stickers and everything

I'm going to hold off on daily runs until whatever bug is fixed... seems like it may be related.

You'll get there. The right combination of items and a bit of skill does wonders.

Right, right. I don't think I've ever liked a roguelike before (always end up frustrated with the whole restarting and not gaining any progress besides knowledge), but now that I'm to the point where a normal run lasts about 25 minutes, I'm feeling a lot more confident. A certain character unlock who has
more than one life
has really helped me out in a few situations.

Looking forward to keeping this up. I had never understood the BoI fandom in the past, but the Switch is such a good platform for it. This is the perfect travel game for me.

And to speak to the FPS issues, I've had a few, but never more than a few frames. Even in a lot of craziness the game really holds up its framerate, but I've had random drops walking through empty rooms, which is odd.

Also (mechanic spoiler):
When is a good time to consider giving up a heart to make a deal with the devil? I've almost never felt like it was worth it to lose a heart to gain an item, especially now when I'm not 100% on what they all do. I'm guessing that will come with time, but in almost every case I just restart if I feel my spec isn't going to pan out.

Definitely donate. The unlocks you get from it are very good, especially the shop upgrades. The unlocks from some of the challenges are also very good. I recommend beating 2, 8, 9, and 16 as soon as you can.

Yes and yes to both coin bank and challenges. The challenges are generally pretty short, just the first 5 floors or whatever and you get an easy unlock. Donating to the bank will up the number of items the shop sells.

Thanks guys! With BoI I tried to learn as much as I could for a while without looking stuff up but I feel like I need to know more stuff to progress.

I made it to
Satan
last night but died. The feel bads are real. :(

Devil deals aren't really a spoiler. A lot of the items you find are very strong (or are part of a set that will make you strong) and synergize well with other things. As you get better at the game you'll see the appeal of trading heart containers for things like flight, but as you're feeling it out it makes sense to shy away from some.

Always. Unless you literally only have one heart. Or aren't comfortable with the amount of hearts you have and think you're going to die.

Almost every Devil Item is worth it, and as you progress through the game and get better at it, you quickly find red hearts to actually be more of a bother than a help because quite a lot in this game requires you to be at 1 red heart or less.

Sure, sure. I'm not sure what's a spoiler at this point, since certain bosses I was sure weren't huge spoilers are being redacted in here, wanted to be a bit safe.

Feels good to be learning a lot on every playthrough. Going to try to get through some challenges tonight, since I have a pretty good grip on the first set of floors.

What on earth, man. I'm looking forward to feeling comfy enough to do that. Seems like mastering this is very rewarding.

I do love playing this game, but I'm not very good. :( Got down to the Depths II on my last run, but I usually bite it on Caves I. Won't stop from continuing to play, though.

I accidentally grabbed two devil deals on my fourth ever run today (had no idea what they were) and got further than i ever made it before.

It was awesome.

It is. The best way to get used to playing at no red hearts is to play as one of the characters that can't get any red hearts.

I'll note that once I unlock one of those characters. Right now, I'm fighting to unlock everything I can as far as bosses to beat in the game.

Well... one of those three at least.

The other two have their own gimmicks beyond "can't get red hearts" that you need to get used to. And one is almost entirely unplayable without Greed mode, and the other is completely unplayable without Greed mode.

Not really the best tools for training someone to get used to having no red hearts
.

Kinda related question but figured starting a thread is pointless with everyone here.

Is the new 3ds version good? Ive only played a bit of afterbirth but want to have a portable version of the game.

Well, it all depends on the items in question. Some of the items are ones I'll grab even if it will only leave me with half a heart, since they're so powerful. Some of them I'll never grab. As with everything else in the game, it's all down to experimentation and experience. Grab everything once at least to see what it does, and try to remember the icons for the ones that are super useful.

Also, when it comes to devil deals, there are a few little quirks you can exploit. Some of the items in the devil rooms will give you soul hearts or black hearts on pickup. You can spend your last red heart container to pick one of these up and it won't kill you. You'll instead just have the soul/black hearts that the item gives you.

Also, you can pick up items that are worth two hearts when you've only got one heart container left (you'll need soul/black hearts to not die, of course). So, if you come to a devil room and there's two items you really want, one for one heart and the other for two, and you've got only two heart containers plus some soul/black hearts, grab the one-heart item first, then grab the two heart one.

Getting the most out of the devil deals is one of those things that really comes with experience. Once you get better at not taking damage, you'll feel more comfortable trading health for powerful offensive items.

Sacrifice room let me beat The Lamb without having unlocked the polaroid or negative. I also learned you can't unlock things during a victory lap. :c

Unless it was fixed for the Switch, you can totally still get unlocks in a victory lap.

Save and quit, continue the run from the main menu, and you can get unlocks in a victory lap. EZ CHEESE

Well, this happened to me in today's daily:
BVsqKEX.jpg
I'll let you guys imagine how it went down.

The game crashed when I ended my run and now it crashes every time I try to launch the daily.

This is a dream setup for the endgame, when you're trying to get every item under the sun.
