i'm not sure how it happened, but i think i made it through childhood without buying digimon games. I don't think any of my friends did either.

Digimon has gone through the same identity crisis as Yugioh has. Pokemon has changed drastically throughout the years but has always been clear on the kind of franchise it is.

I played Digimon World on PS1 back in the day and it soured me on the series forever. It's the first game I actively remember hating. I did play Rumble Arena later though which was an okay game. Pokémon has been consistently good since the beginning, in my opinion.

..... No love for Monster Rancher? Anyone?

In terms of monster management, Pokemon and Digimon got nothing in front of Monster Rancher. Nothing.

Pokemon.

Every single Pokemon game that follow the monster raising jrpg formula is good, at least. Digimon has only a couple good games and only one great game (Cyber Sleuth), in my opinion. However, if they keep improving on what they showed with CS, they might catch up after 3 new releases or so.

I replayed Digimon World this past month and I gotta say... it doesn't hold up. My 10 year old self is disappointed. I liked the level of interaction you have with your digimon, but everything else is just frustrating.

Only other game in the franchise I like is Cyber Sleuth. Can't say I have enjoyed anything else in it.

Pokémon on the other hand has consistently kept me interested. Even around the time I had absolutely no motivation to get into a mainline entry, which is Gen IV, I still kept up with it because of spin offs like Conquest and Mystery Dungeon.

So yeah, Pokémon wins.

Digimon has the better story to me than Pokemon. Although, I think Pokemon X/Y had a decent attempt at a story. Cyber Sleuth is still better to me though.

This post was made before XY. Pokemon anime now shits on Digimon too.

I don't know how you can say that. XY is ridiculously overrated and doesn't come close to the quality of Digimon Tamers, Adventure, and (I'm going to get shit for this but I think it's overlooked) Frontiers.

Digimon Cyber Sleuth is what Pokemon should have become after so many iteration, and it's an incredible good game.

That said, Pk has so many games, and most of the fun to play, that I have to say is the winner here...

But D:CS is really what I'm waiting pokemon to become... a more focused story jrpg, more mature, a change in graphic design of the world... but with the freedom of the pk series.

Sooner or later...

I love people keep saying Digimon anime is the best when, we just got one of the worst anime ever made called Digimon Xros Wars: The Boy Hunters lol.

Even in the worst moment of Pokemon anime,(Black and White) It is not that bad as that season lol.

Also, Digimon had always been a very unstable franchise. Digimon 2 model was forgotten even though it is great and they give us bad Digimon 3 game which is bad. and Digimon 4 which become Gauntlet clone.

At least, Pokemon games more or less all is top quality.

Yeh, while the Pokemon anime finally has great visuals, especially with Sun/Moon, I still called it quits after a few episodes because Ash is still a terrible protagonist and the Pokemon lore and most of its storytelling is trash and will likely remain so forever.

Pokemon games just feel much more polished and more accepting of new players than any of the Digimon games.

That PSP Digimon Adventure game though, I absolutely loved it if only because the entire group got their Megas.

Pokemon games are usually better and have a consistent quality, although it seems like Digimon has been steeping up their game in the last few years.

I think there is bigger potential in Digimon as a franchise, especially when it comes to storytelling. Its whole "digital" aspect is quite flexible and can push a lot of cool plots and themes.

Plus, there isn't anything like the World games. It's like the videogame version of a tamagochi.

If they manage to keep delivering a nice mix of the Story (JRPG) and World (tamagochiRPG?) series they'll win me over (more than they've already done). Latest game seem to cater to a older demographic than Pokemon, which means the game are closer to my personal tasted that Pokemon, whose dialog seems to have always suffered from thinking kids are dumber than they actually are.

PS: I need a PS4 so I can get Next Order :(

I agree with this. The XY anime is a huge step up for the series.

Let's keep the discussion focused on the games, please, since that's what the OP asked.

While Ash is still baka, i can't said i agree that Digimon is any better in any way lol.

The last season of X-ros is soo bad that it is not funny. Digimon Frontier is Kamen Rider wannabe, Digimon Adventure Tri is a blasphemy as it ruined many character for me and the art and battle ruined my brain.

A Gomamon attack able to flinch Mugendramon!!! Really now Bandai? Really?

When in Digi Adv 1 where Mugendramon single slash can kill thousand Numemon? His Single Shot can take down many ultimate level Digimon? They are killing me here.T_T

Have to go with Pokémon on this, generally more content.

Having said that, I'm playing Cyber Sleuth right now and it's so much more fun then when I played Pokémon Sun. Also, at least Digimon games are playable on a console. The handheld has really been holding back the Pokémon games, not just graphically but performance wise as well.

Well, at least this makes more sense than that time OP made a Digimon/Mass Effect crossover:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1203276

That's some crazy thought process right there. And then I saw this comment.

This could be Bioware's Kingdom Hearts.

And then I was like....DO IT BIOWARE. KH is a fun cluster fuck, why not a ME/Digimon crossover.....
can't be any worse than Andromeda :p

P.S just realized I was made into a member finally :))))

Pokemon has been rapidly getting worse and worse since 2010, while Digimon is getting better and better (ignoring Appmon).

Wut? X and Y is great and now Sun and Moon anime is also top notch lol.

Digimon on the other hand just got, X-ros S3(Trash) Adventure Tri(Nostaligia shit that ruined the original even more) and Appmon lol.

I can't see how u said Pokemon is getting worst when Digimon is even worst right now,

Both Pokemon and Digimon games have amazing potential to have great stories.

Digimon attached itself to the ever changing, ever advancing cyberspace technology. The world of computers and devices and network today is so much more different than when the series first started in the 90s. There is SO MUCH you can address about social or political commentary. What I'm saying is, there's an amazing Persona game waiting to be developed here.

Pokemon for the most part sticks to relatively 'harmless' and 'edgeless' stories to appeal to a wide audience and clearly this has worked out well for them. But goddamnit I still wish they have one game, just one game where they follow the mature tone and story of the "Pokemon Adventures" manga >_< !

i posted way last year in here but i'm gonna stick with pokemon. i bought Next Order and just didn't enjoy it at all. felt like it was a waste of £40. there was some nostalgia from playing the original on PS1 but i just couldn't get into it all. i give up on digimon games.

that said, i just can't enjoy pokemon anymore. i have Sun but feel no desire to play it. hopefully they put a game out on switch and shake things up a bit.

Pokemon all the way but, I haven't played in the latest few years. I heard good things about them (I also have bought a couple, I just have to find the time to play them) so maybe there has been some catching up.

Anime wise Pokemon again but with no doubts this time.

From what I've played(uh, one), definitely Digimon, but I'm not a huge fan of either. I like Digimon's style and atmosphere way more though.

I looked at one of the scenes people hyped and it looked bad, like digimon Xwars hunters bad.

Son and Moon anime looks way better.

As for games I consider Digimon World on the same level as Red/Blue.
