Reggie: Nintendo will have a big E3 this year.

I feel like he would have said this if asked in March about E3 of any year, ever.

But it gets me excited regardless, so here's hoping for the best!

Nintendo usually shows games for the upcoming year at E3 right?

It sounds like they are possibly going to give us a longer term look at Switch games coming. If they want to move 16 million consoles in one year it would help to show as much as they can to get people really excited. Can't wait.

Completely new announcements that I'm expecting:
  • Smash 5 or Smash 4 Redux (now with Ice Climbers)
  • Super Mario Maker Switch
  • Mario X Rabbids RPG
  • Retro Studios' project
  • Virtual Console announcements, including GCN VC and Mother 3 in English

New announcements we'll maybe see:
  • Metroid Prime sequel for the Switch
  • Pokémon Stars

That's all for the Switch. What we may see for the 3DS:
  • A new Kirby game
  • A new New Super Mario Bros. game (unlikely)
  • Mario & Luigi 6 (should give it a rest, IMO)

What we definitely won't see for any platform:
  • A new Kid Icarus game (RIP)
  • F-Zero

Right now I'm honestly hoping for some big Switch virtual console news. In an ideal world they would have every Wii U and 3DS VC game day one. Gonna be real annoyed when they announce like 5 games or some shit.

I wonder if they have any older FF remakes in the works? That would be a great announcement for them.

Final Fantasy? Like completely new remakes? Not a chance.

That's a decent start, I think. If they can add Retro's game along with some sort of Animal Crossing news, we've got a stew going.

Actually a good point. They were supposed to have Animal Crossing mobile as the next mobile game, (I'm presuming this because they've announced it anyway).

At the same time, under the current strategy for F2P mobile games (launch it to provide interest in an actual mainline entry on Nintendo hardware), they've kinda missed the boat for animal crossing. I wonder if originally the mobile game was supposed to launch near the New Leaf update and packaged rerelease on 3DS?

In any case, that would be a good enough reason to push the Switch version of AC ahead of schedule than it otherwise would be.

That or it'll be a paid app, I guess.

Hoping it's a Direct and not a live press conference.

Hoping it's a live conference because they are ALWAYS more memorable

I don't want to see Pokemon Stars, Xenoblade 2, whatever, without some audience interaction.

I mean it probably will be a direct but I'd like a switch up this year.

New Leaf update was probably to buy time for Animal Crossing Switch, they delayed the smartphone app so that it can be released closer to AC for Switch's release.

My predictions:

Pre-show announcement:
VC launches with Earthbound Endings (aka
Mother 3)

E3 Show:
Some 3DS games
Super Mario Odyssey (Nov 2017)
Splatoon 2 (June 2017)
Fire Emblem Warriors (Oct 2017)
Pokémon Stars (Nov 2017)
Super Mario x Rabbids RPG (Sept 2017)
Beyond Good and Evil 2 (No date)
Skyrim (August 2017)
Bayonetta 3 (2018)
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch (Early 2018)
2D Metroid by Retro (2018)

And then obviously some casual or low budget games we don't care about

I'm hoping they deliver and show off some new games, or have a couple surprises up thier sleeves. I'll actually be at E3 this year and hope it's a good one, not just for Nintendo but the others as well. ☺️

I have never once found a crowd's reaction at all interesting. If anything, it adds wasted dead air, and keynote speakers will pause for crowd reaction. Such a waste, especially when the crowd is filled with paid shills like Microsoft does every year.

nah their E3 2014 Digital Event was one of the most memorable E3 presentations from any of the publishers

The Pikmin sidescroller on 3DS isn't Pikmin 4.

Is it really not, though? I remember talking about this before, and it seems that Nintendo may be developing it internally. It very well could be the Pikmin game Nintendo was mentioning before.

Not AAA budget like FFVII, something V/VI with a smaller handheld focused scale

Seriously. Nintendo needs to lock up exclusives with Square. Remake or new entries in all of the great SNES RPGs. Chrono, FF, Mana, you name it. Old school 2D JRPGs made by Square in 2017. You can't say no

It'd honestly be a disappointment if they didn't have a great E3 after mostly skipping last year sans Breath of the Wild and just releasing a new console.

With that being said, I'm not going to expect Metroid, Wave Race, or F-Zero, but I'll flip my shit if we get any of those.

Meh, I'll believe it when I see it. I'm not holding my breath for Nintendo at E3 this year. Their E3 2014 was honestly the last one I really enjoyed.

Goddamn, Switch has been around three weeks and people are already throwing the 3DS under the bus.
Try being a Wii U owner. I'm out here just begging for Virtual Console scraps.

I'll believe it when I see it.
More like believe it when it's on store shelves. I.e. that Direct Show they've had after WiiU launch showed a really promising lineup for once. Until it turned out that all the announced games were far from ready and actually spread over WiiU's entire measly life.

*solemn nod*

Still waiting on Mother 3.

In all fairness, we literally don't know anything about the Switch's Virtual Console.

I'm willing to give the Mother 3 localization rumor until this E3. If it's not announced then, then I'll completely forget about it. Same goes for the Mario X Rabbids RPG thing.

With the Switch January presentation fresh in memory, Im hoping they do a direct. Koizumi should be the presenter.

Honestly, Animal Crossing and something along the lines of "Switch Sports Resort", would make me very happy.

A Warioware game using the HD rumble and motion, along the lines of an updated Warioware Smooth Moves, would also be great I think. This is what 1-2 Switch should have been.

Is anything that has been shown of this game comparable to a game that would have taken several years to complete? Is Miyamoto that involved in 3DS games (AFAIK, he was the one confirming the development of it, years ago)?

The footage I've seen looks more like a Chipi-Robo Zip Lash engine game, with Pikmin skins.

This, though I don't think Eurogamer ever reported on the Mario x Rabbids thing on their site.

For what it's worth, they were also right about the Guardians of the Galaxy game from Telltale being announced at The Game Awards.

Final Fantasy? Like completely new remakes? Not a chance.

Presumably he meant remakes like FF III or IV for the DS, rather than something like FFVII Remake.

I think Square Enix kind of missed the boat on that, though. A Final Fantasy V and VI remake for the 3DS would've been massively less expensive and time-consuming than remaking them for the Switch.

Likely

Super Mario Odyssey
BoTW Expansion DLC
Fire Emblem Warriors
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Splatoon 2 (if it hasn't released)
Skyrim, NBA, Fifa

Rumoured/Speculation

Rabbids X Mario
Beyond Good and Evil 2
Pokemon Stars
Smash Bros. DX
Retro's game
Super Mario Maker Switch
Pikmin 4

Hopes and Dreams

Metroid
F-Zero
Waverace
Animal Crossing
new IP

I think a portion of the rumoured/speculated list + the likely list will yield some really good results.

Not necessarily, look what they are doing for the mana series on Switch. They'd have to do a little more work for 5 and 6 remakes, but they could be 2d or simple 3d with better resolution than a 3ds game and people would be happy. 3ds level development doesn't have to die just because Switch is more powerful.

I wonder how much of whatever kind of e3 presentation they have will be dedicated to the 3ds. It seems like they want to keep pushing it for another year or two.

I have different definitions of big. For all we know, Reggie could come out with one huge game and a bunch of smaller ones and preach it was big for Nintendo because they focused on quality...

Give me

Animal crossing switch
Smash bros with my damn cloud amino
Pokemon main game

2 out of the 3 and I will be happy with there e3 presentation.
