Sony Is Reportedly Prepping Another “Thinner” PlayStation 4 Model

I'd personally be interested in a super slim ps4 than a pro. Especially if it's better looking. I find the original and pro ps4 to be kind of funky looking. The slim is okay. Anyhow lets see that super slim and I might upgrade.

So PS4 Pro S.

For $350 or $375????? w/ 4K bluray playback.

Maybe Sony is banking on MS charging $499 for another console iteration again?

Thinner Pro hopefully? Because it looks pretty silly right now.

Maybe make one that doesn't look like a damn double decker sandwich?

Will definitely be down for a pro slim with a price cut.
If scorpio comes in at $399 and I think they have to, I hope pro slim is $299.

A revision within a year seems unlikely but I suppose they can slim down the Pro to make it more competitive. GAG will have a meltdown if Sony added UHD BD support, though.

If this has a UHD drive, I'll be a little bit annoyed that I bought an Xbox One S for one. Also even more confused as to why there wasn't one in the Pro initially.

My guess it's for the Pro.

That way, when Scorpio comes out, Sony can really slash the pro price down. Probably $299 for the Pro, $199 for the slim. Scorpio will probably be $499 I'm guessing. Dunno.

Hoping it's a Pro with UHD drive and not a amateur with UHD drive. If it's not a Pro I might have to go with an Xbone for my 4k BR needs.

Would love to see them ditch the disc drive.

Only if they put in a fat 2 or 3 TB disk standard.

Actually, I'd like to see them put out a real-ass PlayStation TV. No disc drive, but supports all the streaming services (unlike the garbage that previously had the name), comes with a year of Vue, local DVR, and can emulate ps1/ps2 games. $149

But he's right. The sticks are garbage. The build quality is garbage. The battery life is garbage.

I'll give you the battery life, it's horrid compared to both the previous generation and current competition. I dunno what you guys do your damn controllers though, I've had zero issues with the 3 DS4's I've owned. No problems with sticks or build quality at all.

I just had to buy the PS4 Slim because my current PS4 keeps turning off from overheating multiple times a week. Seems like the fans aren't working since it's in a well ventilated area. It lasted me a bit though, can't complain.

I haven't had any issues with my controllers, and if the battery life is the (small) price to pay for those glorious LED lights then so be it! :p
Don't ever get rid of the LED lights!!!

I would love a model without a disc drive as I'm all digital anyway.

My perfect Playstation 4 would be as follow
>no disc drive
>Alienware alpha sized even with a small external PSU
>1 front and 2 rear USB port (back for external HDD and PSVR)
>Vesa mountable
>same basic visual style as PS4 Slim
>500GB 7200rpm drive to keep costs down (I will use my 2TB 7200 either way)
>Can still keep standard and pro versions (pro is just slightly thicker)
>slightly smaller touchbar, better battery, tougher micro usb port, ability to turn light bar off

I found that a few days ago, the DS4 that came with my Pro has a sticky square button, totally out of the blue,. I barely press that button!

A digital-only console is a horrendous idea.

Only horrible if it's the only option. For some people, it makes perfect sense. If they don't trade games and don't want the clutter of a physical collection, the idea is fine. Every game installs 30-50 gigs now anyway, so it's not like you're saving HDD space with a disc version.

"But what if they take our games away, or the service is down".

PC moved basically all digital years ago. It's been fine. Occasionally there's downtime, "steam is a POS". The world continues to revolve.

The new model is a much better build and a little better battery-wise but the battery still isnt great. I dont get all the hate for the way the pro looks. Is it from people who dont have one? I like it. Matte finish with a nice silver subtle logo. And the build quality on the pro is far better than og. No creaking.

Sticks and build is fine over here, for battery life disable vibration, controller speaker, dim light bar and the battery much improved

This. Removing the disc drive to make it more affordable is counter intuitive for two reasons:

1- Poorer people tend to be less trusting of large organisations and systems because they are screwed over by them so often. Trusting a pure digital gaming market place would be a big issue.

2- Gamers waiting on a heavily discounted console may be more reliant on the second hand market or reselling physical games to fund future purchases.

Source: I used to do youth work with poor/at-risk/homeless kids & teens, so its pure anecdote.

PS3 Super Slim was cheap ugly trash.

I would actually be fairly surprised if this was true.

Can't imagine there's enough additional cost savings to be had from reducing the fabrication process further (it's expensive to tape out a chip on a new process node) and thereby reducing the cooling / power / size requirements, as well as incurring all the R&D, QA, QC, etc costs to warrant another model quite yet.

But what do I know?

I have to buy a new controller, so no, it's not fine, and with all that disabled the battery life still pales in comparison to superior controllers from competitors.
