By July 1st?! I was promised January 1st! What a bunch of fuckers!

This is for the power of good. Less menial charges on something so small, and makes it easier for those that were going to do it anyway.

The problem is, when my neighbours smoke cigarettes, I don't notice it. When they smoke weed, if it's a hot summer day, it wafts into my house, which is BS. They also let their dog shit on my front lawn though, so I'm just be annoyed with anything they do.

Sounds like pot smoke impacts you the same way that tobacco smoke impacts me... I can't stand it. It seriously disgusts me, and I can't walk down a public street without being exposed to it. Blech.

I think where you can smoke should be the same for both. Sounds like your neighbours are just arseholes in general though!

Actually everything is still in the timeline they proposed

It's nice that Canada is one of the most smoking restricted places in the world. Ain't nobody wanting to smell that cigarette smoke, and the stigmatization of cigarette smokers is welcome and continuing to increase

Great.

Smokers are too dirty.

Yes, it actually is nice. Second-hand smoke affects the lungs of the people around you also. No thanks.

tabacco smell is worse than pot smell

cities can legislate more smoking bans on patios, balconies, parks.

I am for more smoking bans on public spaces like restaurant patios.

But am also for weed legalization

I don't want to smell cigarette smoke but what can you do about it?

Weed can be smelled from way further away. I don't smoke anything and I'm not really happy about this. I don't want to smell it whenever I open a window in the summer or when I go to a park.

I'm not sure about the specifics of where it can be smoked though.

So another 1+ year of dispensary raids and people thrown in jail for possession. When they said legislation in the spring of this year, I was really hoping everything would be ready for the fall.

You guy do realize there's other methods than smoking to consume THC, right?

Not to mention if it really becomes a problem cities and provinces will move to put restrictions on where you can smoke... just like with cigarettes.

Gotta make it closer to the next Election so you can point to it in your re-election campaign

for sure complaints of the smell will spike, that's normal and expected.

and cities will just legistlate more smoking restricitions and bans in certain publics spaces... and that's okay

Yes, but that doesn't mean a whole lot, we're not users. Plenty of actual users including in this thread don't know or don't care.

My landlord is like: Who cares.

:(

...They should have the same regulations for that as tobacco from day one.

Marijuana does indeed smell, and it sucks when said smell enters your home when you're not smoking it.

Can they actually be engineered to remove the smell?

Places already limit vapers, they'll do the same with pot, I don't get why anyone would be complaining about this issue as if places don't already have plans

pretty much any place that already has smoking bans will automatically include the location ban to any type of smoking.

I'm okay with this.

Municipal city councils are going to react for sure with more restrictive smoking by-laws after they get smell complaints from people. Fine by me!

I'm okay with this.

How are they going to limit people using it in neighbourhoods? Seriously wondering.

Because people will obviously often smoke cigarettes outside on their front steps or deck and you can't smell it, but if that's marijuana the whole neighbourhood can smell it.

I'm a DC native so I can't really complain, it's harder to get a good sandwich than it is to get top shelf cannabis, edibles and concentrates. Still, good show Canada. I'd probably try to live there if not for the whole cold thing, I can't hang.

Chances are if people in your neighbourhood smoke pot, you'd already be smelling it. They're not waiting for legalization to jump on board.

I'm just going to call BS on this. You might be super sensitive to the smell of the smoke, but I'm going to need to see some evidence that the smoke travels further or differently than tobacco smoke.

Happy to be proven wrong here.

if complaints sore, city councilors, mayors and premiers will fall in line.

It's fine but I hope the provincial governments ban the sale of marijuana cigarettes. They can let people roll joints at home if they want, but don't allow businesses to sell or even promote the inhalation of marijuana smoke. Marijuana should be used for medicinal purposes, and smoking it is medically counter productive. No point in arresting or fining people for smoking it privately, but we made a lot of progress against cigarettes, let's not make it worst.

Same should apply to tobacco cigarettes really.

At least in Toronto, we've had a really really mild winter with it barely going under freezing. Depending on which part of the country you go to really depends on how cold it gets. The prairies are the coldest cause they suck the most

Its relevant because people smell stuff that is nasty to them all the time and they just move on.

Not smelling a skunk and being around people who are smoking burnt matter would be nice. Smoking is harmful to the people around you.

Not reasonable to compare that to the smell of hamburgers and hot dogs.

Switch Back 9

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
Some of you guys will seriously find a way to ruin/complain about anything.

This is huge and amazing news. Good job Trudeau! At least you're following through on one thing you promised.
